"I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way..."
Well, it seems Miss Rabbit was drawn just a little too bad (ie, sexy) for Disney, as the infamously sultry Who Framed Roger Rabbit? character is to be given a makeover to make her “more relevant” to today’s culture.
Jessica Rabbit will still feature in the Roger Rabbit Car Toon Spin Disneyland ride, but she'll be ditching her signature red dress for a trench-coat and a fedora as she embarks on her new career as a private investigator.
“Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin is the latest Disneyland attraction to undergo a major renovation to remove outdated and problematic scenes — joining Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mountain and Jungle Cruise,” reports OC Register.
As you might expect, many fans are up in arms about the "woke desexualization" of a beloved character, but this time, they might actually have a point.
Jessica Rabbit's exaggeratedly sexy appearance played into the fact that she was created as a subversion of the femme fatale trope, and she actually ends up saving the day after being one step ahead of every other character for the entire movie. That said, it's easy enough to understand why Disney would want to update her appearance and "damsel in distress" role for a family theme park ride.
