DOCTOR STRANGE 2 Star Elizabeth Olsen Says She Wants To "Be There" When The X-Men Join The MCU

Though we still don't know when or where to expect them, The X-Men are coming to The MCU, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Elizabeth Olsen wants to "be there" when it happens.

Though we're all anxiously awaiting some sort of official update, we have been assured that The X-Men are coming to The MCU at some point, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Elizabeth Olsen wants in on the ground floor.

While speaking to CinemaBlend, Olsen was asked how she feels about the planned MCU introduction of the Children of the Atom. "No, you just got me excited!" she replied. "I don't really know what I do next after this movie. I don't really know. I wanna know what fans want and what the ideas are. But I guess you just said it, if we're bringing X-Men back, I'll wanna be there!"

As excited as the actress is about the prospect of returning as part of the X-Men, she adds: "I have no actual plans yet. I am very excited to talk with Kevin [Feige] about that at some point."

As any self-respecting X-Men fan will surely be aware, The Scarlet Witch is (or was) actually a mutant in the comics, and has fought as part of the team and against them as one of their most powerful adversaries. Of course, the character was given a very different origin for the MCU, but with her powers continuing to evolve (one might even say, mutate), there's always room for a little retconning.

Spoilers for In The Multiverse of Madness follow.

Fans were hoping Professor X's (Sir Patrick Stewart) introduction would lay the groundwork for Wanda to be revealed as a mutant, but if that was ever on the cards, it didn't make the final cut. The Scarlet Witch appeared to perish at the end of the sequel after entombing herself in the ruins of Wundagore, but it's highly unlikely that will be the last we see of her.

What do you guys think? Should Wanda factor into the MCU debut of The X-Men? How would you like to see that play out? Drop us a comment down below.

As of very recently, she’s the GREAT PRETENDER, a demonic figure responsible for mutant erasure. No longer a mutant

As much as the comics have retconned Wanda, I wouldn’t be surprised if the MCU did it again and made her a mutant. At this point, I think it’s all too late for that though.

@GhostDog - Didn't WandaVision kind of hint at her being a mutant already? During the flashback when the bomb fell in her family's apartment, and her and Pietro were small kids, and she used her magic to effect the bombs probability field and kept it from exploding?

She did that before she had any idea she could use magic, and before Hydra experimented on her.

It seemed very much like her mutant ability manifesting to me.

And the comics have always kind of explained her powers as being able to naturally use magic without training to do it. It's just natural whereas normal people have to LEARN to do it, but she can just tap into it on her own. Which is what makes her so dangerous, because she has access to all this power but never went through the teaching and learning of why it can have dangerous consequences.

@CorndogBurglar - WandaVision was showing that she was this prophesied by an elder god Scarlet Witch and because of that connection capable of these amazing things. And then Multiverse of Madness doubled down on this.

And in the comics she very much learned from and was extensively trained in witchcraft by Agatha Harkness.

@GhostDog - After The Trial of Magneto, Wanda became "The Great Redeemer"

@TheUnworthyThor She was trained by Agatha Harkness in the comics, but not at first.

Correction she is not a mutant in the comics and it would make little sense to make her one now in the MCU. That would just be a hat on a hat on a hat.

@TheUnworthyThor - Ok, she's not a mutant NOW... but they only made that retcon a few years ago to tie-in with Avengers: Age of Ultron. Put it this way, she's been a mutant in the comics a lot longer than she hasn't.

@RorMachine - True, but at this point it has been like 8 years. And even when she was a mutant the vast majority of her adventures took place with the Avengers and had nothing to do with mutant issues and her solo stories were always dealing with witchcraft and nexus beings and other magic elements. She was the least mutant mutant Marvel ever created. I can’t recall a single major X-men storyline that she was super involved in until House of M. She even entered Onslaught when no actual mutant could.

@TheUnworthyThor - I would say Namor was the least mutant mutant marvel ever created.

@CorndogBurglar - thank you!! I was trying to remember who was the least mutant mutant but couldn't put my finger on it.

@Marveladdict - I mean, they've recognized Namor as the first mutant in Marvel Comics, but that was very long after his initial release. And outside of his short stint with the X-Men during the Phienix 5 period, he's really done nothing with mutants.

Namor has always been all about the oceans and Atlanteans. He's never really given a crap about the surface, except for when they cause trouble for the oceans. For him to just suddenly care about mutants so much that he would join the X-Men never made sense.
TheUnworthyThor

@CorndogBurglar - Well fair enough but he was created more than 20 years before the concept of mutants was even established and it wasn’t until the 90’s to cash in on the X-men’s popularity that he was actually finally solidified as a mutant. And that was definitely a retcon I never liked seeing as there are A LOT of mutants and he is the only truly important Atlantean and undersea character. And yeah he isn’t even full blooded homo sapien superior since he is half homo mermanus.

But yeah he and the Scarlet Witch do share a lot in common in that the vast, vast majority of their adventures have nothing to do with the X-men and the word mutant in never uttered. They both occupy very unique important corners of the Marvel universe that have nothing to do with the world of mutants. But to be fair Namor did live with them on Utopia and took part in events like Utopia, Second Coming and Curse of the Mutants.

But the really damning things that would make me say that the Scarlet Witch is the least mutant mutant ever is that Wanda has never been a member of any X-team meanwhile Namor was a member of the core roster of the X-men themselves for a time. And during Avengers vs X-men, Wanda was on the Avengers side while Namor was on the X-men’s side.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 5/9/2022, 3:23 PM
@TheUnworthyThor - Thats all true. And even though in continuity you're right, I feel like Namor joining the X-Men was just someone at Marvel saying, "Hey! We always say Namor is the first mutant, but he never does anything with mutants. Let's add him to the team!". Even though it made no sense to do that.

TheUnworthyThor - 5/9/2022, 3:26 PM
@CorndogBurglar - Well I definitely agree with that. I hope in the MCU they do not make him a mutant. We are going to have more than enough mutants to introduce. Keep him Atlantean.

I'm all for casting Krasinski as Reed in the main MCU..but I don't want Patrick Stewart as prof X. Whilst what he did with the character is iconic and obviously the gold standard...I'd like something NEW. I may catch shit for this but I wouldn't mind if they based the MCU X-men on Hickmans take.

I kinda believe that's what we are about to get, and if you doubt it go read X-men #21 by Hickman.

Since Disney bought Fox, I always wanted a scene where Magneto appears in front of Wanda and tells her that he finally found his lost daughter.

Yeah, it's least likely that something like this would happen, taking in consideration the origins of main Wanda, but if they manage to do a reverse House of M as people are saying here, probably this would work.

I always wanted Magneto to interact with his kids in big screen. I hope someday this would happen.

@DPSNUMBER1 - Don’t worry. Magneto will interact with his daughter in the MCU.
