DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Director Confirms Brutal Cut Death Scene For MCU's Baron Mordo

During the Director's Commentary for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, filmmaker Sam Raimi confirmed that Baron Mordo's death scene was shot, and reveals a startling new detail...

Both before and after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released in theaters, we heard a lot about plans to kill off Chiwetel Ejiofor's Baron Mordo.

The last time we saw him was in Doctor Strange's post-credits scene, and Mordo had embarked on a mission to rid the world of those he deemed unworthy of wielding magic. That was going to lead to him tracking down Wanda Maximoff in her cabin, only for the Scarlet Witch to make short work of the villain by removing his head.

Now, filmmaker Sam Raimi has confirmed that this was the plan in the sequel's Director's Commentary. However, he also revealed that Wanda was set to present Mordo's head to Strange later in the movie (we're baffled as to why neither scene is included as an extra on the Blu-ray).

As this rumour proved to be accurate, we have to assume the one about Bruce Campbell playing a Balder the Brave Variant was also true. Reshoots seemingly made a lot of changes to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, including the roster of The Illuminati being altered.

The good thing about Mordo not dying is that we can see him again down the line. This movie introduced his Variant, Master Mordo, while Strange briefly mentioned that his world's Mordo had spent the past few years trying to kill him. Bring on Doctor Strange 3, eh?

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Marvel Cinematic Universe unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. We'll journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

The movie's cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Loki Head Writer Michael Waldron.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now playing in theaters. It's now available on Digital platforms and Disney+, and hits Blu-ray, 4k Ultra HD, and DVD on July 26.

Raimi and Waldron really wanted to go hardcore with this one it seems.

Anyway, I'm kinda glad they didn't kill Mordo. Wanna see him return in the threequel, maybe making a deal with Dormammu to rid the world of magic alltogether.

While it would’ve been a waste of the main Mordo, I wouldn’t have been mad if she done it to the Illuminati one because holy [frick] that horrifying imagery would be amazing

Well we heard about it since march, from the leaks. Since they nailed all the rest...

I didn't really find the movie to be as violent as a lot of people made it out to be from the reactions I've seen. But I'm glad that they went as far as they have. The death of Black Bolt and Charles Xavier were fantastic.

Making Wanda the villain is really the best decision they made for this movie.

@Fares - I think there are definitely some scenes that push the limit of PG-13, especially when you consider that little kids often come to MCU movies.

That said, I did find myself thinking it was less "scary" the second time watching it.

If you look at it frame by frame, you can see that Wanda actually ripped Charles's head off in his mindscape.

Also, if you look at it frame by frame, the way that version of Wanda looks like might give you nightmares.

@Kumkani - I wish that was how she looked at peak corruption at the end of the film, just to truly show she’s not fully herself. The amount of comments I’ve seen where people have not understood the darkhold corrupted her and she wasn’t herself is staggering

@MikeyL - while I agree, I do think a little bit of herself was in there as well, the Darkhold was just magnifying that piece of her.

I know this movie is far from perfect, but there are a lot nice little touches that show much care Raimi put in. He just knows how to craft creepy sequences. The way that Wanda limps after fighting the Illuminati is so creepy and unsettling and I hate and love it at the same time.

Glad they removed it. "Let's kill off the villain of Doctor Strange, before he can do any villany."

Although it would be cool, it would be a missed opportunity. I mean come on, you got Chiwetel Ejiofor in a villain role. USE HIM!

Hopefully, we see more of him in Doctor Strange 3, and even get more of this backstory of him trying to kill Strange.
