In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we met a group known as The Illuminati consisting of Professor X, Mister Fantastic, Captain Carter, Black Bolt, and Captain Marvel.
The latter was a Maria Rambeau Variant who had clearly gained her powers in place of Carol Danvers, and while she took the fight to the Scarlet Witch, it still wasn't enough to overcome the unhinged Wanda Maximoff. Seeing the Captain Marvel character again was welcomed, and the actor has now shared some behind-the-scenes photos from her stint as a superhero.
As well as sharing a closer look at the costume she donned on set, Lynch also shows off the damage Maria suffered while fighting the Scarlet Witch.
We can't help but look at these and wonder whether this Captain Marvel once had a larger role in the sequel. We know reshoots changed much of the blockbuster, which Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Costume Designer Graham Churchyard alluded to during our recent interview with him.
"I was really happy with Lashana's costume," he said. "The fit and performance, and she was able to fight. All I'm saying is a lot was cut and it's a very quick end for the Illuminati. We shot a tonne more, but maybe it'll be on the Blu-ray."
There have been rumblings that we might see Maria in The Marvels with flashbacks taking us back to Captain Marvel's 1990s setting. Sadly, she won't appear in the present day as WandaVision revealed that the pilot passed away during the five years half of all life in the universe had been wiped out by the Mad Titan, Thanos.
With any luck, though, Lynch will have the opportunity to play another superhero down the line as she kicked a lot of ass as the new 007 in No Time to Die last year.
