Doctor Strange was #1 again this weekend in North America, while moviegoers overseas continue to flock to the critically acclaimed Marvel Studios release. With a current haul of $153 million domestically, its $339.6 million international earnings takes the movie's worldwide total to $492.6 million, an incredible number at this point. A sequel is guaranteed, but still hasn't been announced.
Why? Well, Doctor Strange has already managed to pass The Incredible Hulk ($263 million), Captain America: The First Avenger ($371 million) and Thor ($449 million). Next up is Ant-Man ($520 million), and as you no doubt already realise, each of those got a sequel (with the exception of The Incredible Hulk, though that's down to complicated rights issues rather than a lack of success at the box office).
Doctor Strange will be hurt by Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them next week, but that shouldn't stop it from going as high as $650 million - $750 million by the time its box office run wraps up.
