These are just some ideas for an Aquaman trilogy I had floating around in my head that I turned into a brief synopsis with a fan-cast. Here’s Part 1…
Aquaman: Rising Tide
Atlanna – Olivia Wilde
Casting: She just has that quality ya’know? In addition to being absolutely gorgeous she’s proven herself to be an above average actress. Handling a relatively small role such as this wouldn’t be a problem. Aside from being a complete knock-out you have to admit there is something special going on with the way Ms. Wilde looks. Sure she’s pretty…but there’s something else…something about her that you just can’t put your finger on… This quality is what makes her my ideal choice for the mysterious woman of the sea.
Role: Turmoil and political uprising echoes throughout the streets of Atlantis. The blood of royalty will soon fill these waters. Princess Atlanna flees the underwater city in search of a peace. She swims to surface where she falls in love with a lighthouse keeper by the name of…
Tom Curry – Viggo Mortensen
Casting: An excellent actor who has more then proven his ability to take on a variety of roles. His most known, Aragon (Lord of the Rings Trilogy), demonstrates the qualities I’d like to see in Tom Curry. He is very knowledgeable and completely capable of kicking ass; but more importantly he is humble. This is the man that will mold Arthur Curry into Aquaman. I can’t think of a better actor to play the part.
Role: After Atlanna dies while giving birth she leaves Tom Curry with a son who he would soon discover possesses remarkable abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Tom Curry will raise him to be the man we know him to be and instill the values of a hero within him. Tom Curry would never see his son become the hero we know now for his life would be cut short by…
The Trench – Andy Serkis (Motion Capture/CGI)
Casting: A veteran actor and motion capture wizard I see Andy Serkis as the perfect actor for the part. Can you honestly think of someone better?
Role: I see the Trench as a wonderful villain to bring out the heroic qualities of Aquaman. At this point Arthur Curry is unaware that there is more than just run-of-the-mill sea life. The Trench would be a perfect wake-up call villain to introduce Aquaman to the dangers of the sea. Coming from the depths they come to feed on the surface. But is it just coincidence that brings them to the lighthouse of Tom Curry? We find that they were actually led there by…
Atlan – Zachary Quinto
Casting: Another great actor in the making. He’s proven himself to be very versatile with a wide range of characters and I’m confident would handle this role without a problem. I’d like him to be a bit older but hey…watcha gonna do? It’s a fan/dream cast. Like Ms. Wilde, Quinto also has that certain quality. He just seems…different. Perfect for an undersea wizard of Atlantis.
Role: The man who was supposed to be the Father of the next heir to the throne. After Atlanna had fled he was heartbroken. But he remained a servant to the royalty of Atlantis and would continue to look over the next heir…Arthur Curry. He is determined to bring Orin (Arthur’s Atlantean name) back to Atlantis. But to do this he must sever all of Orin’s ties to the surface world. Those ties include his father and a kid brother who we know as…
Ocean Master – Javier Bardem
Casting: An Academy Award winner I see Javier Bardem as probably the greatest actor in the cast of Part 1. There’s really no need to go into his acting ability as he has more than proven himself as one of the great actors of his generation. The qualities I see him bringing to the character stem from No Country for Old Men (Won Best Supporting Actor) and Biutiful ( Nominated Best Actor) Orm Marius will be a villainous but also tragic character. Ideally a younger version of Javier Bardem would be nice but given Marius’ affinity to deal with magic, it wouldn’t be improbable to see some strange aging side-affects which make him look much older. This can also be the reason why Arthur does not immediately recognize him.
Role: Unlike his comic counterpart I see him as the ideal younger brother. He adores and looks up to Arthur who loves him in return. They would be inseparable as children. Atlan knows there is no way Arthur would leave him so he uses Atlantean magic to drive the young brother to the point of insanity and obsession. Arthur's younger brother takes up a new name, Orm Marius: The Ocean Master, and is hell bent on conquest of the seas and all who use them. This version of Ocean Master would be more magic based than his counterpart which relied on a mix of high-tech weaponry and magic. Atlan’s plan is for Arthur Curry to chase the Ocean Master (he does not know it is his brother) around the seas. Whether or not he stops him doesn’t matter. The whole point of the scheme is that in chasing Marius, Arthur would discover Atlantis and that Atlantis would discover...
Aquaman – Alan Ritchson
Casting: Sorry to all you Smallville haters but I just had to go with him. I’ve looked at all the other Aquaman fan-casts and I always found one thing lacking in who the Aquaman role went to...an imposing physical presence…and this guy has it. He’s everything you’d want Aquaman to be. He’s handsome, powerfully built, and in possession of that regal presence we’d expect from someone who rules over three quarters of the planet. Another rising actor, Alan Ritchson is slowly proving himself to be a versatile actor as well. His roles range from laugh-out-loud hilarious to more dramatic parts as well.
Role: Not much changes. This is still the Aquaman we know and love. Raised by Tom Curry he’s always had an affinity for the water. But up till now he has never done more than skim the surface. After the murder of his father at the hands of the Trench he begins to realize his responsibilities may lie beyond the surface world. And when an insane but powerful magician, who goes by the name of Orm Marius: Ocean Master, threatens the seas that he loves, Arthur Curry must become…AQUAMAN
At the end of the film we find most of the cast dead. Atlanna died giving birth and Tom was murdered by the Trench. In a climactic showdown Arthur discovers that the Ocean Master is actually his younger brother. After an emotional confrontation Orm Marius realizes what he has become and repents, overcoming the magic that drove him to insanity. Not content with failure the wizard Atlan murders Orm Marius and then leads Aquaman on a chase through the seas and into Atlantis where the final fight takes place. Aquaman is triumphant but refuses to kill him and beats him to a pulp instead. His mission accomplished Atlan commits suicide, leaving Aquaman as heir to the throne. The movie ends with Aquaman’s discovery of Atlantis and a people in desperate need of a king…
