Bob Garlen Presents: THE ROGUES - DCEU Fancast and Story Pitch

An Ocean's Eleven Styled Caper featuring the Flash's notorious Rogues Gallery in the first tried and true Supervillains movie from DC

Fan Fic Opinion

Released from Prison one of the Flash’s Deadliest Enemies, Leonard Snart a.k.a. Captain Cold, attempts to return to a normal life. Unfortunately for Leonard, life enjoys kicking him down. As he loses his job, his girlfriend, his sister won’t talk to him and he begins facing life back on the streets he becomes desperate. That’s when a mysterious benefactor begins leaving him information for a robbery of Central City’s Premiere Casino – ran by three Intergang bosses all fighting for control in Central City. Now Snart has a chance at the score of a lifetime, forcing him to assemble a team of Central City’s most dangerous rogues to complete the job.

The plan

Intergang is opening a Casino in the heart of Central City, the Rogue. On it’s opening night 200 Million dollars is being brought in to cover bets and costs. The Vault is high-tech but it’s also guarded by a secret Weapon. The Rogues will need: An Exit Strategy, A Safe Breaker, A Grease Man, A Con Artist, A Tech Guy, A Gear Man, Bag Men, A distraction, and they will need to disable alarms, break into the vault, evade whatever secret weapon is in their way, and escape with the money.

 The Crew

Composer: A film score (also sometimes called film music, background music, or incidental music) is original music written specifically to accompany a film. The score forms part of the film's soundtrack, which also usually includes dialogue and sound effects, and comprises a number of orchestral, instrumental or choral pieces called cues which are timed to begin and end at specific points during the film in order to enhance the dramatic narrative and the emotional impact of the scene in question.

David Holmes [Notable Works: The Ocean’s Trilogy, Logan Lucky, The Laundromat]: Energetic, timeless, endearing, and fitting, Holmes’ scores for The Ocean’s Trilogy is a real treat for the film. It picks the picks up the tone and adapts to the characters in the film. He was able to really dissect a heist and give it a very cool and lasting theme. His work stands out as music perfect for any era or genre, and putting Holmes to work on a score for the Rogues will be refreshing as well as stand out compared to the more epically toned scores that have been in the DCEU thus far.

Screenwriter: A screenplay or script is a written work by screenwriters for a film, video game or television program. These screenplays can be original works or adaptations from existing pieces of writing. In them, the movement, actions, expression, and dialogues of the characters are also narrated. A play for television is also known as a teleplay.

Scott Z. Burns [Notable Works: The Informant!, Contagion, The Laundromat]: Whitty, intriguing, and engaging is the perfect way to describe Burns’ work. His film The Report stands out as one of the most engaging streaming original films I’ve seen and his work on The Informant! is hilarious and harrowing. Putting him on a script for a property like the Rogues is an instant win.

Director: A film director is a person who directs the making of a film. Generally, a film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualizes the script while guiding the technical crew and actors in the fulfillment of that vision. The director has a key role in choosing the cast members, production design, and the creative aspects of filmmaking.

Steven Soderbergh [Notable Works: The Ocean’s Trilogy, Logan Lucky, The Laundromat]: Soderbergh is, at this point, the master of the Heist Film. Not only are his heist films engaging and inspired with layered characters, they’re fun and funny with jokes that are on point, reflective of their reality, and charming. Ocean’s Eleven is by far the best Heist film to come from the 21st Century, and getting someone as unique and inspired as him to do a Supervillain Heist Movie would no doubt equate the greatest Supervillain Movie of all time and be a Golden standard to compare any future attempts.

The Rogues – Villains who’re planning and committed to the Heist.

Leonard Snart/Captain Cold [Height: 6’ 2”, Age: 30’s]: Captain Cold, a jewel thief with an ice gun of his own design. He is an enemy of the Flash and the de facto leader of the Rogues. Getting out of Prison for armed robbery, he attempts to reintegrate into society but finds trouble keeping down a job, especially when his little sister won’t speak to him. An opportunity arises forcing him to become Captain Cold again.

Adam Driver [Height: 6’ 2”, Age: 36, Notable Works: Star Wars {Sequel Trilogy}, Logan Lucky, The Report]: It’s amazing to see an actor bounce from drama to humor in such a flawless manner. He’s an extraordinary actor who’s work stands out as being able to dive deep into emotional territory, crack a joke and break tension. He’s got the right edge to him to play a character like Captain Cold and make him as Charming as he is dangerous while still feeling like Captain Cold.

Lisa Snart/Golden Glider [Height: 5’ 5”, Age: 30’s]: Snart’s sister, working as Morgan Edge’s Assistant, aiming to kill him and take over the casino down the road. She has a history as a Supervillain that earns Edge’s trust and her position being an Assistant keeps her from applying for any Gaming Licenses. She has a pair of Golden skates that propel her at super speed, while also being armed with a “Glitter Gun” that subdues enemies in a golden putty that safely freezes them in place.

Riley Keough [Height: 5’ 7”, Age: 31, Notable Works: Mad Max Fury Road, Logan Lucky, The Devil All The Time]: A terrific actress that has done some amazing work, especially with low budget and independent films. Logan Lucky shows she can be funny and warm, and The Devil All the Time shows she can be something wholly unique by drawing in audience’s sympathy and radiating kindness. There’s no doubt a role like this would be a different style for Riley but one she’s certain to pull off in fine fashion.

Mick Rory/Heatwave [Height: 5’ 11”, Age: 40’s]: a pyromaniac who became Heat Wave, a professional arsonist. He was an enemy of the Flash and a member of the Rogues.

Channing Tatum [Height: 6’ 1”, Age: 40, Notable Works: 21 Jump Street, Logan Lucky, Kingsman: The Golden Circle]: No actor has really had the breakout success in Comedy that Channing has. Initially known for low-budget Rom Coms and MTV Action Movies he stepped in the comedy genre and found a voice. He’s since became one of my favorite working actors, endearing with charm and charisma that makes him a wanted voice for a project like this. Reuniting him with his Logan Lucky co-stars would only serve to strengthen his performance and allow Channing to finally get a real shot at playing a comic book character and letting him be iconic in the role.

James Jesse/The Trickster [Height: 6’ 0”, Age: 40’s]: known by his stage name James Jesse, was a circus performer turned Rogue. With the help of his knowledge of tricks, gimmicks and a pair of flying boots, he became the Trickster. He’s a wild card, often unpredictable and unhinged.

Charlie Day [Height: 5’ 7”, Age: 44, Notable Works: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Pacific Rim {Duology}, Hotel Artemis]: A comedian with unique energy unmatched. While best known for It’s Always Sunny, he’s branched out into film with the Pacific Rim Duology as well as Hotel Artemis. His whole catalog of work is argument enough. He’s someone that isn’t right for a Joker but he’s damn perfect for a role like the Trickster. Placing him as the Rogues’ Wild Card is perfect for Day as an actor and while it’s not a typical role he would be interested in, it would be a role that would showcase how fun, energetic, and unique a comedic actor he is.

Sam Scudder/Mirror Master [Height: 5’ 10”, Age: 40’s]: a member of the Rogues and an enemy of The Flash. Scudder developed his own mirror weaponry, including a Mirror Gun that gives him access to the Mirror World.

Aaron Paul [Height: 5’ 8”, Age: 41, Notable Works: Breaking Bad, Need for Speed, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie]: Since the end of Breaking Bad the entertainment industry has struggled to really find the voice of Aaron Paul. A Shame being that he’s such a gifted actor he can truly move different genres and seems to be given very little credit. It would be nice to see him edge something that was equal parts high-stakes and comedic. He’s a strong actor and if El Camino taught us anything, it’s that he knows how to control the drama in his performances expertly. Giving him something lighter to do with enough drama would be a treat for him and his fans and Mirror Master is a perfect character for him to do that with.

Mark Mardon/Weather Wizard [Height: 6’ 1”, Age: 40’s]: A two-bit criminal who had a little bit of luck, Mark Mardon stumbled upon a scientific device, a wand that could localize weather, creating hail, lightning, and other destructive forms of weather. He used the wand countless times against the Flash as Weather Wizard, a member of the Rogues Gallery.

Jay Ryan [Height: 6’ 1”, Age: 39, Notable Works: Beauty and the Beast {CW Series}, IT: Chapter Two, The Furnace]: I was surprised by how loveable and wonderful he was in IT Chapter Two, he drew me in and was able to get me to care for him as much as I did his character in the previous installment. He’s a strong actor that hasn’t been able to shine outside of that appearance {which is woefully underlooked} while this is an other ensemble for him to join with the uniqueness of the film there’s no doubt he would get another opportunity to stand out as a hell of an actor.

Digger Harkness/Captain Boomerang (Returning Character) [Height: 6’ 1”, Age: 30’s]: George "Digger" Harkness is a notorious criminal from Australia and a member of the Task Force X. Having moved to the US, Harkness undertook a string of jewelry heists which brought him to the attention of Flash, who eventually apprehended him.

Jai Courtney [Height: 6’ 1”, Age: 34, Notable Works: Spartacus, Suicide Squad, The Suicide Squad {Forthcoming}]: As far as I’m concerned, this is Jai’s role. Captain Boomerang was my favorite character in Suicide Squad and his performance was wonderful. He’s every bit the reason I’d want to see a movie like the Rogues. Getting him back for such a unique movie would elevate the character, Jai’s performance, and really showcase why he’s such a fun character to watch on screen.

Backers – Last Money in, First Money out. Supply Weapons and Tech in exchange for a small portion of the profits.

Arthur Light/Doctor Light [Height: 5’ 11”, Age: 30’s]: Doctor Arthur Light was a minor but persistent foe of a number of heroes. He’s hit a low point where he’s lost his way and doesn’t feel threatening anymore, seeking to really want to be remembered as one of the great Supervillains.

Joe Gilgun [Height: 6’ 0”, Age: 36, Notable Works: Lockout, Preacher, Brassic]: Few actors are as endearing on a first glance as Gilgun, and he continues to be one of my favorite working actors. He’s given some ranged performances and has done well to match his drama with equal elements of comedy and seeing him do a role like Doctor Light would be a real treat.

Drury Walker/Killer Moth [Height: 6’ 2”, Age: 40’s]: Drury Walker wanted to be an anti-Batman: a villain with a wide arsenal using his skills to aid the criminals rather than the police, complete with Mothsignal and Mothmobile. He’s highly needy and wishes to be friends with the other Rogues, so that he’s more than a mere “gear guy” to help criminals in a pinch.

Topher Grace [Height: 5’ 11”, Age: 42, Notable Works: That 70’s Show, Spider-Man 3, Interstellar]: I miss Topher Grace, he’s a fun actor and has gotten an unfair bad rap from Spider-Man 3. He’s a strong actor and could really play this role in a unique fashion something to stand out and fit with the tone of the movie but also something of it’s own making and be fun.

Noah Kuttler/Calculator [Height: 5’ 11”, Age: 60’s]: Noah Kuttler, also known as the Calculator, was originally a costumed villain. For a time he worked as an accountant for the Mob, when he discovered the existence of Oracle, he decided to fulfil the same overwatch role for villains. Eventually he retired after being permanently paralyzed by Batman. He’s an Old Friend and Mentor to Leonard.

Jared Harris [Height: 6’ 0”, Age: 5’ 11”, Age: 59, Notable Works: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Mad Men, Chernobyl]: Harris is a fantastic comedic and threatening presence on film. He’s balanced whit, humor, and intimidation in ways few actors can really maneuver. Him taking on an Old Friend role would be fun, seeing him in a weird ice-breaking like position where he’s not the classic Calculator but is still savvy and smart.

The Law – Trying to apprehend the Rogues lawfully because it’s the “right” thing to do.

Barry Allen/The Flash (Returning Character) [Height: 5’ 11”, Age: 20’s]: Bartholomew Henry "Barry" Allen is a student at Central City University who was struck by lightning, gaining the ability to think and move at incredible superhuman speeds. Using these powers, he became the vigilante hero known as the Flash. He was eventually discovered by Lex Luthor and recruited by Bruce Wayne to be a member of the Justice League in order to help defend Earth after the death of Superman.

Ezra Miller [Height: 5’ 11”, Age: 27, Notable Works: Fantastic Beasts {Trilogy}, Justice League, The Flash {Forthcoming}]: Despite controversies he’s here to stay, and doing a Rogues movie without the Flash would seem odd and hard to approve. He’s a decent actor and continues to really grow and get into his own. Getting him in a more limited capacity would be a treat that allows him to stand out in a positive way without garnering the usual criticisms his performance gets.

Detective August Heart [Height: N/A, Age: 50’s]: August Heart is a detective mentor of Barry Allen. August was the only witness to Barry's accident, that turned him into the Flash. He covers for Barry and the Flash.

Daniel Craig [Height: 5’ 10”, Age: 52, Notable Works: Layer Cake, Logan Lucky, Knives Out]: Craig stands out as an actor primed to do whatever he wants. He’s an excellent action star, he’s a hilarious comedic star, and he’s a sharp dramatic actor. He’s a mixture that causes fans to appreciate his appearance and has fun with his roles. After his more comedic exploits it’s clear he can do a lot more than Bond. Getting him in a part like this is setting up for bigger opportunities down the road, if wanted, and allows him to work on a fun big budget small scale caper.

Detective Hunter Zolomon [Height: 6’ 1”, Age: 40’s]: A Central City Detective with a grudge against Intergang, blaming them for his father’s death and the murder of his mother. In secret he was affected by the same lightning storm that hit Barry, giving him the same abilities and developed his own plan to take down Intergang – Influencing him to drop the tip to Snart and causing the heist to happen. He becomes a secret benefactor helping the rogues escape.

Antony Starr [Height: 5’ 11”, Age: 44, Notable Work: American Gothic, Banshee, The Boys]: Constantly cast as Eobard Thawne after his inspiring and incredible performance in The Boys, I wanted to see him do something a little different and set up a gradual decline to madness and mayhem. Making him play a character that is by nature altruistic and slowly pushing him into that decline would be a fun and inspiring use of Antony’s abilities.

 the -BAD- BAD GUYS/The Marks

The “BAD” Bad Guys/The Marks – The Targets of the heist.

Sal Maroni [Height: 5’ 10”, Age: 70’s]: A Gotham City Gangster driven out of Gotham by Batman formed with Metropolis’ Intergang Mafia and began the expansion that involved other cities such as Coast City, Keystone, and Central City. Co-Owning the latest Central City Casino “Rogue.”

Armand Assante [Height: 5’ 10”, Age: 70, Notable Works: Judge Dredd, American Gangster, The Brave]: One of my favorite actors. Being a fan of his work in Judge Dredd as well as his comedies it’s hard not to find a role for him and finally with his I found something I felt was fitting use of both his dramatic and comedic energy. He’s a hell of an actor who could inject menace and charm in his rendition of Sal Maroni.

Bruno Mannheim [Height: 6’ 2”, Age: 60’s]: Intergang’s Top Boss who arrives to Central City to oversee the Opening of the “Rogue” Casino, which is to be publicly owned and operated by up and coming Intergang Boss Morgan Edge.

Andy Garcia [Height: 5’ 10”, Age: 64, Notable Works: The Godfather: Part III, The Ocean’s Trilogy, The Mule]: After his villainous appearances in the Ocean’s Trilogy, he was my only choice for the role. He’s a strong actor and gives his performance layers both charming and menacing. He’s someone that could make Bruno Mannheim every bit as sophisticated as he is savage without feeling out of place in this world.

Morgan Edge [Height: 6’ 1”, Age: 50’s]: A Media Mogul who’s climbed the ranks of Intergang. In secret he’s a religious fanatic, worshipping an ancient figure known as “Darkseid”. To honor his religion, he found an ancient book called the crime bible and runs his business practices according to it.

Lennie James [Height: 5’ 9”, Age: 54, Notable Works: Snatch, Lockout, Blade Runner 2049]: He’s a highly underrated actor best known more for The Walking Dead than he is for the excellent crime-film Snatch. His work has stood out and has given him a sense of prominence in his roles that makes him perfect for Edge. Giving him attributes to feed off the be less the typical gangster and someone more depraved and unwieldly would allow his villainous character stand out in a sea of other Heist movie villains.

Amazo [Height: 6’ 9”, Age: N/A]: An android built by government scientist designed to mimic the abilities of metahumans it encounters. It was stolen by Intergang who now use it as vault security for their new Casino. It’s joked as being a Metahuman Terminator.

Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson [Height: 6’ 9”, Age: 31, Notable Works: Game of Thrones, Kickboxer: Retaliation, Hamlet Pheroun]: For Amazo, you need someone large and intimidating. Few fit that bill better. He’s an excellent actor for roles of menace and intimidation and in a movie that’s already going to be overtly reliant on CG, getting him in there as Amazo would help convey the fear that the Rogues would have on screen and make the audience feel it versus seeing a giant CG robot.
