Caught between The Rock and a hard place?

Come and see what The Shaman has in store for you!!!

I don't know what's happening or rather what could have caused it but lately, all the uproar has been to cast DC's very own Captain Marvel. Now originally, Black Adam was to apear in the big red cheese's feature film and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was to be the actor to play him and rightfully so. Simply no other actor had as many of the physical requirements under his belt to justly portray this intriguing villain. But what of Captain Marvel???

It's been rumoured that the 1st contender would be Brandon Molale on account of his resemblance to the character as well as his deep interest in playing the part. However, i feel that "talent", or lack there of, speaks for itself and in my personal opinion, Molale's unworthy of such a compelling character. Especially since going toe to toe with Dwayne, i'd be more inclined to root for the bad guy in Molale's case. Ten years ago, Patrick Warburton had the looks and the charisma needed to play Captain Marvel. Today however, time has taken it's toll and his very reputation would single handedly make a mockery of this ever so underused hero. And because of the shadow cast by Captain Marvel's big blue brother, a bad rep is the last thing he needs to sell tickets.

For us comic book fans that are eager to see they're childhood heroes on the big screen, we tend to picture how they could be represented. And since all we have for "actor swatches" are past enjoyed performances, it is quite difficult to picture an unknown actor since we don't have the assurance that an actor with all the requirements exists. And i haven't read many of Captain Marvel's comics however, i've always been inexplicably fond of that character. He always had that "je ne sais quoi" that i always felt Superman lacked most of the time. But by putting my "business oriented" hat on, i can thoroughly understand why studio executives would be hesitant in attributing this character a big enough budget. Naturally, his concept of being a boy that transforms into a "super" man doesn't necessairely appeal to every average movie goer in our day and age. However, i firmly believe that with a well thought, profound and mature script (meaning not geared towards spykids) and a decently talented actor, this superhero has what it takes to make it big.

Which brings me to my choice of actor. Since in Black Adam's story, we find out that both Captain Marvels are indeed identical to C.C. Batson, why not chose the same actor for the two roles? If no other actor is more fit than Dwayne Johnson to portray Black Adam, who else but Dwayne Johnson could give Captain Marvel justice??? He has the build, he has the talent which was sufficiently acquired from film to film (this means alot coming from me as you all know, i'm not too keen on wrestlers in comic book films) and he has more than enough experience and charisma to boost this character's popularity and make his feature film debut a success. Not only do i feel that Captain Marvel could benefit from The Rock portraying him, i also feel that Dwayne could benefit from being attached to the next biggest franchise to hit theaters... The Justice League!!! So unless we are struck by lightning in finding the perfect unknown actor, here's...

My sketch of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Captain Marvel... Shazam!!!

The "Shaman" has spoken!!!

Thanks to THE HAWK for his casting choice and for Loganoneil for the character's franchise history and his thoughts.

Thanks dude! And for whoever is wondering, i drew the outline of the body according to the Rock's own build. So there would be no need for extra iron pumped here.

as usual, amazing work Shaman. But, I don't like the choice. I know, I know. I rarely disagree with you. But, for some reason this just doesn't seem right. Still a great drawing by the way.

how does nobody understand that molale is a good actor. he was hilarious in mr deeds and he has been cast in the vampires assisstant in a very major role!

your all fools
Joslezio85
Joslezio85 - 7/22/2009, 7:49 PM
no offense dude. But Shaman is the only one on this page who said anything about Molale. I don't even know who he is, and the two comments above me say nothing about him either. So, yeah.
loganoneil
loganoneil - 7/22/2009, 8:45 PM
Shaman - as always your artistic skills are superb, but like I said before, I'd rather have for someone else with more theatrical skill than settle for the Rock (no offense Mr. Johnson, but name-recognition be damned!). And 'NO' (as in "HELL NO!!"), I DON'T mean Brandon Molale or Patrick Warburton either! And it looks like I'm not the only one who feels this way...

Don't mess with the Captain!

...SHAZAM!

I say the Rock for Black Adam, not Marvel.

Shaman - Anil Rickly made a rather interesting suggestion for Captain Marvel on LEEE777's thread that I'm kinda digging - Adrian Pasdar. We both think his acting ability is top-notch and he's not too far from the look (size aside). A few months of power lifting and...voila - "Big Red Cheese"! Whaddaya' think?

Very nice Shaman, I appreciate the acknolwedgement as well. Definately one of your best sketches yet. I love how you used the actors own physique in the picture.

@Logan. I could see Johnson playing both Captain Marvel AND Black Adam. he still has that youthfulness in his expressions to portray Captain Marvel. And with a little make up to make him look more mature, he would be and amazing Black Adam as well.

@Logan. I believe you said on a previous page that you worked with theatrical prosthetics and makeup, so you know it could be done reasonably simply.

HAWK out

Hey if you wanna SINK the Franchise go right a head a head, THE ROCK is totally MISCASTED as SHAZAM he is BLACK ADAM Geezuz lol! Nice pic though, ya just drew the wrong character, its as bad as having ACKLES for CAP???? ; D

LEEE- You do realise that both characters ARE identical... right? Aside from spock brows and elf ears, they are SUPPOSED to look like twins.
I understand your passion and all but it's highly misdirected here.

loganoneil- You're totally dead on with the "theatrical" talent. I'm sure someone somewhere we haven't seen yet has a good back ground in plays and all the physical attributes of the character. Until i see him though, i'll have to stick to my guns.

brycied- Some people find Pattinson to be a good actor... go figure. Molale??? Yeah... he's just as stelar as Pattinson... with a pinch of down syndrome.

joslezio85, 10THTIGER, longbowhunter, NewAvenger4- No problem guys, to each's own but i'm still waiting on better suggestions :P Thank you all for the compliments though :))

Thank ya much, teabag :))

Loganoneil- Actually, YES... Pasdar could definitelly pull it off but you know very well that my preference would be for Adrian to be the next Batman. Bruce Wayne desparately NEEDS his representation.

BlackCat1- Thank you very much for the compliments. I don't have a deviant art page for the simple reason that that site is blocked off at my workplace and that i don't have access to the internet at home. The very little time i have to post my art on here is done at my girlfriend's place. EVENTUALLY though, i do hope to create a deviant page as well as my very own website ;)
loganoneil
loganoneil - 7/23/2009, 9:29 AM
Shaman - if Ryan Reynolds can do Deadpool AND Green Lantern (and Hannibal King, and possibly Wally West), why can't Adrian do Batman AND Captain Marvel? Like they said in 'Ghostbusters', as long as you "don't cross the streams..." everything should be okay.
Shaman
Shaman - 7/23/2009, 9:39 AM
LOL Good one Loganoneil :)) I honestly wouldn't be opposed to it ;)
Osiris
Osiris - 7/23/2009, 10:53 AM
Nice I love the choice... the Rock has come along way in his acting career, I definitely think he could pull this off and do it justice. Race to witch Mountain was really good and part of that is due to Dwayne's acting... way better then in his Doom days.

I have deviantart page Shaman, I love it you really should just see if your girlfriend wouldn't mind if you made one on her comp and added a few pic's it doesn't take very long.
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 7/23/2009, 11:29 AM
LOGAN @ Dude,,, you cant have ADRIAN as CAPTAIN MARVEL man!!!? He's in HEROES every week and flies, ppl wont like it as the general public an i for one think the GEORGE CLOONEY look-a-like looks nothing like CAP MARVEL let alone he don't have the bulk, the guys skinny! As for BATMAN OMG nooooo if he ever got that part it'll be the end of that franchise, he does look a good choice for a certain mARVEL hero though! ; )

SHAMAN @ Dudeeeee THE ROCK don't look right as MARVEL?? Why don't you like him as BLACK ADAM he's soooo perfect for the role man?? We agree a lot on castings, well apart from another CAPTAIN lol, but i cant see ROCK being MARVEL in a million years? An who would be BLACK ADAM then ffs??? : /
THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 7/23/2009, 11:33 AM
@loganoneil. they can't be played by the same guy, they are both DC properties. Ryan Reynolds can do Deadpool and Hal Jordan because one of those is Marvel.

THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 7/23/2009, 11:34 AM
LEEEE> THEY CAN BOTH BE PLAYED BY THE ROCK! they are virtually identical.
loganoneil
loganoneil - 7/23/2009, 11:41 AM
HAWK - OK, then how do you explain Deadpool and Hannibal King? And NO, they can't both be play by the Rock, they're NOT identical!
Osiris
Osiris - 7/23/2009, 11:50 AM
he can play Dp and Hanibal because there is most likely no way King will get used again, and if he does then they can recast him.
THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 7/23/2009, 12:24 PM
Logan. No one can explain anything in Blade 3, i have fortunately not seen it. And they could be played by the same guy, the main differences are Black Adam's ears, and expression.

@Osiris. that and they will probably reboot everything Blade related anyway.
Tobuttica
Tobuttica - 7/23/2009, 12:58 PM
I don't know where people get it, but Black Adam and Captain Marvel aren't twins. Adams is an ancient Egyptian named Teth Adam, that was given powers millenia ago and time travelled to Captain Marvel's time to fight him. Captain Marvel is an "American" kid from modern day Fawcett City! I don't know where anyone gets their info. I already knew this, but I Wikipedia'ed it to be sure. Therefore The Rock doesn't need to play both roles, nor would it work. He should be Black Adam! George Eads should be Captain Marvel, or like Anil Ricky said, Luke Wilson.

LEEE777 - 7/23/2009, 3:21 PM
NAH, i cant see it THE ROCK is BLACK ADAM and hey they don't look nothing like each other!

Its like having BALE as the JOKER!!! ; D

It'll look an be stupid having THE ROCK play both parts too!

Shaman
Shaman - 7/23/2009, 4:56 PM
Tobuttica, loganoneil and LEEE777- Wikipedia clearly states this:

"When Theo Adam first encounters Captain Marvel, he notes both Marvel's identical appearance to C. C. Batson and the lightning-bolt insignia on Marvel's chest that had also decorated Khem-Adam's tomb."

Billy DOESN'T look like himself when he is Captain Marvel and neither does Theo Adam. The "persona" of the power of SHAZAM is almost identical. The only variation is spock brows and elf ears. The Rock CAN play both. Same thing as Superman 3. If Rock is fit for Black Adam, he IS fit for CM.

And LEEE777- Batman's franchise will get rebooted anyway cause Nolan won't return and Bale will buy out of his contract if that happens. In fact, WB's probably just waiting on Bale's contract to finish on it's own like Routh's did. Pasdar would be a great Batman or CM. He does bare a somewhat resemblance to Clooney but unlike George, Pasdar doesn't have a 24/7 grin and has already been portrayed as a dark character in "Heroes". He also was portrayed as what Bruce Wayne should be like in that very same show. These are all facts, not personal tastes. You THINK he'd be bad, we KNOW he'd be good.
Shaman
Shaman - 7/23/2009, 4:59 PM
Osiris- Thing is that i'm a narcissistic bastard of an artist and i love looking at my own art at work when i have nothing else to do... which is most of my day. I wouldn't be able to do anything on Deviantart cause it's blocked at my work. And i'm very rarely at my girlfrined's place so i really wouldn't be on it often. As soon as i get a personal computer and the web at home, THEN i garantee you that i'll create my own devianart page :))
loganoneil
loganoneil - 7/23/2009, 6:17 PM
HAWK - Two COMPLETELY different looking people! I don't know how you don't see that! Count your blessings on Blade 3. After seeing it, about the only thing that could turn me back on to Blade is...

funny pictures
moar funny pictures

...if this was the premise for 'Blade 4', there'd be lines for MILES to see this film - tell me I'm wrong, I DARE YOU!

Avenger - have you SEEN Frasier lately?!! He's a TUB!

Shaman - LOVE the new avitar (Viktor is the [excrement] and Bill Nighy is FANTASTIC!!!!)

Shaman
Shaman - 7/23/2009, 8:13 PM
loganoneil- If that ever came out, i'd be camping for a week to get my tickets!!!

Thanks, yeah i do believe Bill Nighy as Victor is in fact, quite the shizzy :))
BLADE4040
BLADE4040 - 7/23/2009, 8:20 PM
Shaman: Nice post and I agree with you 100% the ROCK could pull this role off no problem. Its not like your casting for Thor(I believe needs someone with a background in theater) or another hero who's sercet i.d. is totally opposite of the hero he portrays. The Rock would be Capt.Marvel and Black Adam the whole movie. I've seen several of his movies and Im sure he can handle the transition from Marvel-Adam. Yea the more I think about the idea it makes sense... just cast the Rock for both roles.

THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 7/23/2009, 9:16 PM
@BLADE4040. Thak you! finally someone with common sense that agrees with us. He could easily do it, and quite well. That would make be awesome.
Shaman
Shaman - 7/24/2009, 7:51 AM
BLADE4040- Yes, thank you for agreeing. I knew from the beggining that he wouldn't be everyone's favorite but no one can despute the fact that he COULD brilliantly portray both. He does have everything the character needs. He might not be the perfect mental image we all had for CM's film but he's not at all a bad choice.

THEHAWK- Yeah, Roar warned me of the same exact thing and boy was that movie the most pathetic waste of [frick]ing life i've ever seen on screen. Glad that you follow our warning about Blade 3. You've learned well grasshopper LOL :P

Osiris- I tried to set up a deviant art page last night. After uploading like... 20 sketches... TWICE, only for it to tell me that the titles couldn't have more than 30 characters which they didn't, I GAVE UP!!! So can you go to the "Fan Site Owner" box here and click on contact me to let me know how do i actually put up my art on there??? Thanks bud ;)

@Shaman. It wasn't your advice it was mine. I was unfortunate enough to actually see it. I told Birdboy if he saw it, I'd leave his sorry ass. Its that bad.

Oh and great sketch by the way, I just love Dwayne Johnson, he would be great for it.

Oh Oh Oh! Are we bashing Twilght here? Can I help! Ok... here goes... I could go on for hours about how terrible that [frick]ing movie is, but allow me to sum it up in this one sentence: The Taco Bell lunch I flushed down the toilet was far more entertaining and likable, not to mention the chemistry between my stool and the toilet was far more convincing than this horrid tween raping of a respectable mythos. How was that? Did I win the cookie?

Shaman, while I hate Captain Marvel as much(or maybe more than) I do Superman, kudos on the sketch. I would like to Shazam! my size 13 in Cap'n Marvels undescended testicals.

THEPHOENIX- Well, if there ever was a justifiable cause for divorce... it's definitely Balde 3. Good job ;)

Thank you very much Osiris!

TheMyth- I'll give you a whole bag of cookies and a Taco Bell Lunch if instead of me watching "New Moon" with my girlfriend, you let me sit in on your next stool bout ;))

AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!!!! Boy, you're really not much of a DC fan are ya??? LMFAO!!! Well go check out my other sketch on top of this one. You might like it a tad better :P
