Hello Everyone! First we will start of with the Cast and then a rundown of the movie. Some of my choices May seem Left but if you read my description bellow each choice you would understand. I have made very calculated choices and instead of going the Martial Arts movie route(which tends to lead to failure). I am aiming something more in the Lord of the Ring/Matrix Trilogy epics then the Flashy Brawler flick.
This is a movie that would be leaning into the $250 Million range as far as budget goes. So no low balling(coughMARVELcough) and going for a bunch of no names to save budget. I'm gonna start off with the Supporting Characters and lead into the main Cast to save some suspense.
Ox King - Philip Seymour Hoffman
Philip Seymour Hoffman is a fantastic actor who will really bring the humor to this role. I Love the Idea of him being in this even if it is a small role.
Chi Chi - Kristin Kreuk
Well I wanted to go for a girl that is of mixed Asian culture. Reason being above. I never saw the Ox King as Asian but Chi Chi in the show looks Asian. Beyond the Appearance I think she can play a very Pissed off Women with a martial arts background. She is also in the age range I would Like everyone to be. Plus she has prior training in a major role this will be no more then a few scenes and a montage.
Grandpa Gohan - Jackie Chan
Honestly WHO better to be the goofy martial arts master who trains the Strongest Fighter in the Universe? Jackie at first was my choice for Master Roshi but I can't see him being an old perv. This role would do great and we would get a pretty cool training montage. I would love to see him in the film even if it's only 5 minutes.
Dr. Briefs(Bulmas father) - Gary Oldman
Not just the fact that he can pull off any role he ever wanted because he is a phenomenal actor. No, not just cause he looks a lot like him with the mustache. Not cause I think 5th Element rocks and everything he touches can turn to gold. Actually yes all of those reasons, plus I think he would do it.
Mrs. Briefs - Michelle Pfeiffer
We need a woman in her 40/50's that is still stunningly beautiful. She would be great for this role not to mention I used to have the biggest crush on her growing up. I would also change the character up a bit and make her less ditsy. Just generally in her own world but caring and cheerful.
Yajirobe - Jack Black
I hate Yajirobe but I feel he needs to be in the film. Who seems to be a little much and annoying. Yes, Perfect casting. He would just be some side comic relief.
EDIT: Master Roshi - Chia Hui Liu(Gordon Liu)
You may have seen him in Kill Bill Vol 2 where he plays the Kung Fu Master. He is always playing a bald monk and also tends to play cranky old men who can be very sexist. He speaks english and fairly well so I believe he would be a great choice for the Perverted Master Roshi. This time he will be a real Pervert.
Kami - Jackie Earle Haily
First off I know hes short but I like that. Second He is a great actor and a Black belt. He did most of his own combat in Watchmen and I would love to give him some time to showcase skills in a flash back as well as in plans for a sequel. Third I like the Idea of him giving some wisdom and guidance to the Z warriors when they are in a time of peril.
Bulma - Jessica Biel
Well what can I say she is a great actress, who has proven it with very diverse roles. She looks like she can kick ass and I think she is simply gorgeous. A great pic and she would look even hotter with a full head of blue hair.
Oolong, Puar, Turtle, Icarus, Chiaotzu, and Mr. Popo - CGI
I believe non of these characters should be actor nor puppets. You can come up with the Voice actors. One thing is for sure They Will all be in it.
^^^This would be the supporting cast and a lot of them would not be getting much screen time in this film, some will make more face in the second film like Bulma. I still like to Cast big. If they can make Tropic Thunder with Tom Cruise in Fat Suit, I can afford these actors in my DBZ movie. lol
I decided to Cast the lead roles with great actors, that have little to no Combat experience and surround them with great martial artist. These are My Z warriors. They are all seasoned and accomplished martial Artist. This would allow for the big name stars that we bring in to feed off of there skill and execution to make for the best fight scenes possible.
Tien - Mark Decasco
He may be getting old but he is still in great shape. He has exceptional Martial Arts skill and is a pretty good actor. He has a unique look that I believe will look good with Tien.
Yamcha - Jon Foo
You can see him in the new Tekken movie. I like his look and enjoy his martial arts performances. I think he looks a lot like Yamcha and could see him pulling this one off quite easy.
Krillin - Ernie Reyes Jr.
Time we actually see such a pivotal character to this story, rightfully included in the film. You may remember Ernie from Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze. He is also hosted his own show on MTV, the Final Fu, Beat the crap out the Rock in the Rundown, and had a little film called Surf Ninjas that sucked but I used to love. lol He is a great martial artist and has the natural personality to play Krillin. Hes 5'5 and Built like DBZ character. Again, Perfect!
Piccolo - Michael Jai White
Well Piccolo needs a strong and imposing man that has great martial arts ability and good screen presence. For those who think Michael Jai White is a non versatile actor who plays the same role, GOOD hes playing that role again here. He will give the wise, angry, calculated and ruthless character a natural feel. I always wanted to cast but believed he was too short. At 6'0 he will be more then great for this role.
King Kai - Jonah Hill
Hill is may not seem like the wise all knowing master but his very sarcastic and cynical humor will be a nice update to the very cheesy yet humorous character king Kai. He would really be hilarious telling the Z fighters how much they suck for all dying to a bunch of little green guys and a 7 foot bald man in spandex or a speedo. lol
The Saiyans Were hard for me to Cast at first. I didn't want them to look like good old all American actors nor did i want them to look like they were Asian. I was looking for a Mediterranean look seeing as I always associated the Saiyan race with Spartans.
(The Fathers)
King Vegeta & Bardock - Gerard Butler & Christian Bale (The Fathers)
I chose them but it would be for a short cameo and kind of just for fun. If they were both willing to do some short screen time I would love for them to play these roles.
Raditz - Kevin Durand
Hes 6'6, which in my opinion is awesome lol. I think he would make really good for the first villain introduced and the first big fight scene in the movie.
Nappa - Nathan Jones
He Looks Like him and definitely has the build and aggression. Not much more to say about this choice. He is also a practitioner of Muay Thai. You Just don't teach big people how to fight!
Those are some of the Saiyans now we move on to our Leads. I wanted to get someone who can play an arrogant prince with an obsession and a skilled warrior who never really grew up and has a natural charisma. Also they need to look the part.
Vegeta - Johnathan Rhys Meyers
Johnathan Rhys Meyers is a great actor and has played quite a fantastic Royal Asshole. He stared in The Tudors as King Henry the VIII. He has the look and can play a devious prick, yet you can still see the Hero in him.
Goku - Jake Gyllenhaal
This May seem a Little off to most but I really believe his perfect for this role. A high caliber actor who would deliver an intense, humorous and passionate performance. He is one of the great actors of our time and actually does look the part. He has this awkward charm to him that I believe really gives off Goku. He is truly in the best shape of his life and if you get him trained in some martial arts I see no one better for this role, in a serious take on it and not a b rated, popcorn, wannabe Kung Fu flick.
Gohan - ???
I Would Cast a young unknown martial artist. If you have any Suggestion go ahead. Not Noah Ringer, he is too old for this role but he would be good for Young Goku in Flashbacks.
As for visuals I would go with Zack Snyder(300, Watchmen) and Edgard Wright(Sean of the Dead,Scott Pilgrim Vs the World) to do a Director/producer combo of the century. These 2 together know how to treat source material and make it a visual experience. With Scott Pilgrim having this over the top Manga visual style and 300 and Watchmen feeling like they were pulled from the comic pages just make sense.
As for Fight Choreography and Stunts I would Like to see a team of Isaac Florentine(Undisputed 2 & 3), Larnell Stovall(Undisputed 3,Blood & Bone), and Koichi Sakamoto(Power Rangers RPM,Guyver: Dark Hero). All of these men I would like to see being lead by Donny Yen who to me is the best Martial Arts Film Talent today. From His Choreography, Directing, Producing, to His Acting he is the real deal. I recommend you check out "Dragon Tiger Gate", "Flash Point", and "Bodyguards and Assassins" to get a good Idea of the Direction I would take the fights but with Snyder's Story Boarding, Wright's dialogue and there combined visuals.
Just Picture this on the Big Screen
Hope This was not too meaty of a Fan cast, usually they are shorter but I feel detail was necessary. I Hope you all Enjoyed. Please Mouth Off Below.
