Now before I start this fancast, let me just say this: I don't hate the Green Lantern movie. Now just because I say that, doesn't mean that it has its flaws, and just because I sat through it just fine and enjoyed myself and was glad to view it, that doesn't mean you half to as well. Mainly there were only four things that I didn't like about the movie. First, The suit. The suit looks like crap. I understand that they were going for, but if you think about it, it just kind of comes off lazy. I hope when WB fixes Green lantern, I hope they do what Tron: Legacy did with their costumes. Second, the writing. I'm not going to go into much detail in this one because I think the viewing is pretty self-explanatory. Third, the villains. I didn't think that Hector Hammond was a terrible villain, I just think that it was pretty lousy to have the villain get killed off in the beginning of the climax, and don't even get me started with Parallax. To me, he just looked like a giant diarrhea cloud floating through space. And finally, Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. Now I will agree that Hal could have been played by a better actor, and that is what this article is going to be about, but the way how I feel about Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern is the same way how I felt about Ben Affleck as DareDevil: good not great. Now keep in mind, I won't just be casting Hal, but I will also be casting the roles of John Stewart and Kyle Rayner. So here we go. My fancast for the reboot of the emerald guardian(s), GREEN LANTERN!
Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Avatar, Clash/Wrath of the Titans) as Hal Jordan
My other choice to play Hal was Bradley Cooper, but I felt like Cooper would have made a better Booster Gold. It really baffles me on why Sam has not played a superhero yet. He definitely has the charisma to play a character like that. Also, he was in talks to play the character before Ryan Reynolds was casted. He's got a good thing going on with WB, and I go online tomorrow and find an article saying that Worthington has been casted as Hal Jordan in the JLA movie, Green Lantern reboot, or has been casted as any kind of superhero, I would totally be on board with it.
Idris Elba (Thor, Prometheus, Pacific Rim, Thor: The Dark World) as John Stewart
I was originally going to chose Michael Jai White to play Stewart, but after watching a few episodes of the Justice League animated series on Netflix and seeing that fan art of Elba as John Stewart, I think he'd be perfect. Elba is an actor who has a fantastic talent at playing a hard-ass and a leader. His performance as Stacker Pentecost in Pacific Rim goes to show that. Plus, if John was in the JLA movie instead of Hal, was played by Elba, and Charlie Hunnam (my personal choice to play the Flash) was in it as well, it would be a great reunion.
Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Dorian Grey) as Kyle Rayner
I wanted to chose an actor that didn't sound like Milo Ventimiglia. Not that he's a bad actor or anything, but because his name gets thrown in every casting choice I've seen for Kyle. So I wanted to chose someone that no one has thought of yet. It was not easy cause Milo looks very much to Kyle, and Ben was the closest I got. And not just the look, but he can pull off the hero factor as well.
Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind, Iron Man 1, 2, and 3, The Avengers) as Abin Sur
Perfect physicality, perfect motivation, but most of all, perfect voice. Other than just saying "He's already voicing Jarvis" there is no reason this guy shouldn't play this character.
Doug Jones (Adaptation, The Hellboy movies, Pan's Labyrinth) as Tomar Re
Yeah, one thing you'll get to know about me is that I'm going to be casting Doug in a lot of these fancasts, but you know, he has played more than one character in one movie. In Pan's Labyrinth, he was Fauno, and the Pale man, and in Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, he was Abe Sapien, Chamberlain, and the Angel of Death. Clearly, a chicken-fish-alien is a ball in the park for this guy.
Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2, Sin City) as Kilowog
I know, he already voiced him in Green Lantern: First Flight, and I think that he is perfect as the voice of this character.
Hugo Weaving (The Matrix Trilogy, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, V for Vendetta, Captain America: The First Avenger, Cloud Atlas) as Sinestro
Now one thing I will say what I liked about the Green Lantern movie was the casting of Mark Strong as Sinestro. Hugo Weaving, Jackie Earle Haley, and Geoffrey Rush were in the running to play the character. If they do a reboot, I highly doubt that they'll bring back Strong, so I think that they should go with their second best choice. Hugo Weaving. This man is the king of playing villains. One thing that Weaving has that Mark Strong doesn't is that he has the ability to be intimidating. For some reason, I didn't get that from Strong even though he did a "Kick-Ass" job. Hugo is another actor who is good friends with WB, and already having the experience at playing the Red Skull, Sinestro shouldn't be that hard to pull off.
Eva Green (Casino Royale, 300: Rise of an Empire, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) as Star Sapphire aka Carol Farris
Another actress who was considered to play a character in a movie, but ended up getting taken by another actress. The only other character I can see Eva playing is Poison Ivy. I think that she would be awesome not just as Carol, but mainly as Star Sapphire. We know that she can play seductive and dark, intimidating characters, and this seems like a great opportunity for her.
Keith David (Platoon, Pitch Black, Crash) as Atrocitus
There's not that much to say here. I just decided to chose a character with an epic voice to play an epic character. Now it would have to be motion capture work for a character like this to pull off.
Sam Witwer (The Mist, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed) as Black Hand
I wanted to chose an actor that looks like he shares the same kind of hatred as Black Hand, and being a fanboy himself, Witwer would nail this role in a heartbeat, plus he's played Doomsday on Smallville, so that's got to mean something.
Who would I get to direct the film?
Gareth Edwards!
So those are my choices on who should star in a Green Lantern reboot. If you disagree, feel free to voice your opinion on who should play these characters. Also, make sure to comment on which of the Green Lanterns you would like to see in the JLA movie. Jordan, Stewart, or Rayner?
