Reading the news about the new Superman movie I thought this idea of reboot the franchise were looking like the same case The Punisher – War Zone motion picture had with the rumors of the director resignation and after nothing about this was true, so when I read the writers came out of the “Superman Returns 2”project before the aproving of the script I suppose it was just a gossip around the movie, but now after all discussion of new director, writer and cast and with the notice the Bryan Singer’s movie is now regard a end of Richard Donner’s legacy to Superman, I became really worried, once the Singer’s ideas brought modifications and standardize the Superman’s world concept in all others medias, and sad, because I love this movie and want to see the conclusion of that story.
With this information of the reboot and the opinion about Superman Returns, I search for reviews and old news to have a good argumentation to write this letter, and I found some comments, officials and made by fan, and interviews showing different opinions of same people, first praising the movie and after reducing it, almost all without a good reason.
The case of other directors, writers and actors, is visible they want to have a chance with this kind o project, so diminish trying to be contracted is normal, but in my opinion is unethical, because always will be a different interpretation of the film and it shows they haven’t good ideas and competence in comparison with what was done before. I think who have great plans to a script or performance don’t need to reveal it before the time and make confrontations with other kind of movies what is a real success.
Looking to the financial part, I think strange when someone said Superman Reutrns cause damage just because doesn’t work how was expected, once the movie had a minimal gain established and defeated and paid itself. In my opinion is a real damage restart the franchise and try to erase the Christopher Reeve image as Superman and the plot his movie isn’t a good market strategy now because without his participation on Smallville, the use the consept of kryptonian crystals technology and phanton zone, characters and references like Zod wants to knell before him, John Williams’s theme and S-shield desing from Superman Returns on Smallville and comic books, wouldn’t bring negative comparations like obviously will have after all. I think is better give back the control to Bryan Singer not only to love his movie, but he understand comic book enough to be the only one who could put an end on the Superman’s movie problem since the 90’s, as without his X-Men movies maybe we couldn’t have this Hollywood interest on hero movies and consequently won’t exist great franchises like Christopher Nolan’s Batman, Spider-Man, Iron Man and the coming Green Lantern and Jonah Hex movies, just bad produtions like Cat-Woman, Elektra, Capitain America and Justice League form 90’s, I’m suppose. Singer’s declarations about the sequel shows he planned the same situation he did in X2, increasing the danger and consequences once the base was build on the first movie, likely the producer Thomas Tull said about a furious god on the next movie and the fanboys, who just read the name of the characters somewhere and think know everything to can talk about it, so much claim.
Actually, is uncertain if Singer really would set right like happened with Christopher Nolan, whose first Batman wasn’t the success expected by the studio and had another chance with The Dark Knight, what won’t have same success if had only the movie and without the viral campaign or if one of it wasn’t so good as expected, but be guided by the impulse to make money contrary to make a good movie, the gains will be far from planned like happened with the recently X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where the producer change the script to attract more gain and audience and spoiled the movie and fail to make money they went to get. Other exemple is Joel Schumacher’s Batman and Robin, but isn’t necessary to comment it, I guess.
I won’t to look fanatic or another fanboy, mainly because I made my own search about everything I’ve put in here, but exactly because I like to read comic books and watch cartoons on TV when I can, I like to spend my money with good movies, so I’d like to go to the movies knowing the production I chose was made with a good, story, cast and crew, even I don’t agree the choice of the producer and the studio, and is that why I wrote this extense letter, to any mistake like the bad movies and the Superman’s situation on 90’s don’t happen again and people lose money, the audience and who worked in it. Like I’ve put in the title, my ideas to the next movie is not only continous the Singer’s plot or give back the job to him or cast and crew, something I think fast and maybe economical than other could do, but now with the DC Comics writers wants to participate in, just put the gloomy situations and tention of Superman Doomsday animation and keep the drama and nostalgia of Superman Returns to please everybody. Like Christopher Nolan did with The Dark Knight and exactly seems to going to happen, Singer would pay attention on the fan’s opinion to fix what he fail, like put villains to fight, and now we could have a new great movie or last Christmas maybe, more gains to the producers and any juridical term to make a new project. I don’t know if have someone making phone calls, sending letters or e-mail like me, and I know that can disturb, but I think that is the better way to give opinion to something what please me don’t become another deception like happened before and I’d like to every one who agree with me makes the same, here in Brazil and everywhere in the world (like a petition in the forum The Planet and WB - Do Not Reboot Superman, that second link I've found after sent the letter to others sites, what can prove and illustrate this letter).
