Even as I write this, I understand there will be a lot hatred towards my choice, but I have come to the conclusion that the best Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot is Zac Efron.
Physically: he is young, agile, lithe, everything Spider-Man should be.
Acting-wise: yes, yes he's been in High School Musical and 17 Again, tween movies, of course. But an assortment of actors have been in movies nowhere near related to the CBM universe. Heath Ledger played a gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain. Michael Keaton was Mr. Mom. And Edward Norton portrayed a white supremacist. The point is, just because he was in tween-bopper movies, doesn't mean he should be ruled out. (I say this because I have noticed on here most of the negative comments toward Efron is his acting history)
Now he has moved on to more serious roles. I just saw the trailer for the movie Charlie St. Cloud and from what I had seen of it I was thoroughly impressed by his acting range. He was able to transition from playful to serious, heartbroken, and grieving to joyous, seeminglessly. It kind of just showed to me the characteristics of Spider-Man and Peter Parker, and how much he has grown as an actor since his High School Musical days.
Age: Well, now he's 22. People will comment how that's too old for Marc Webb's reboot, but I say to hell with that. Toby Maguire was 26 and portraying an 18 year old kid in high school.
Anyways, I had seen the five choices for Spider-Man and I must say I wasn't too thrilled with any of them. I think Zac Efron could be a blessing for the new Spider-Man francise. These, of course, are just my thoughts.
