Brandon Routh as Superman
I recently watched the documentary "Look, Up in the Sky: The Amazing Story of Superman". In the documentary, Richard Donner made the good point that when someone plays Superman, that person needs to be strictly known as Superman. He said you couldn't have an A-list celebrity playing Superman because the only thing people will see is Brad Pitt in a Superman suit or Nicholas Cage in a Superman suit. For me and I think most people, when we see Brandon Routh, we see Superman. Although this is a reboot, people can still associate the face of Brandon Routh with Superman. If Brandon Routh can't be Superman, an unknown must be cast.
Olivia Wilde as Lois Lane
I think that a more sexy and strong Lois Lane will be needed in the new Superman franchise. Olivia Wilde has that confidence to her that makes you believe that she would walk up to the most powerful man in the world and interview him.
Chris Collfer as Jimmy Olsen
This casting goes without saying. Chris Collfer is young and energetic male that is perfect for the role of Jimmy Olsen who is dreaming of becoming a famous photographer.
Ray Wise as Perry White
Perry White is a really good guy and a great newspaper editor but Perry has a very short temper. Ray wise to me gives off that same feel. They also look a lot alike.
Bruce Greenwood and Linda Purl as Jonathan and Math Kent
One thing that Smallville got right was casting younger parents for Clark as compared to the comics where the Kents are well in to their 60's. Bruce Greenwood has that strict father/farmer look to him and Linda Purl has the very nice Martha Kent vibe
Jeremy Irons and Helen Slater as Jor-El and Lara
Jeremy Irons has a look the screams out scientist from Krypton. He looks like a much older Superman which is pretty important when casting Jor-El. Helen Slater did a wonderful job as Laura in Smallville and I think she can do a great big screen performance as her also.
Michael Ironside as General Sam Lane
Another Smallville casting, Michael Ironside is the perfect General Lane. Hes got the gruff look to him and the perfect personality for it as well. He was only in 2 episodes of Smallville so most people won't even know hes from there
Timothy Olyphant as Lex Luthor
To me, the best thing about Smallville was the relationship between Lex and Clark. Having Lex be around the same age as Clark added a new friendship dynamic that was never really explored in the comics. Timothy Olyphant has the menacing,charming,yet strong Lex Luthor feel.
Gary Oldman as Zod
After seeing Gary Oldman play various villains in different movies, I knew he would be able to play a great General Zod.
Hugo Weaving as Braniac
I know this choice is pretty popular among people but Hugo Weaving has a very alien-like look to him that is beyond necessary for Braniac. Also Hugo is a great villain actor
Jon Hamm as Bizzaro
A lot of people want him as Superman but to me he is Bizzaro. Bizzaro is supposed to look a lot like Superman but not exactly like him. Jon Hamm is perfect for that.

Sam Worthington as Metallo
Another popular choice for this role, Sam Worthington seems like the perfect actor to tackle the role of Metallo. Sam looks a lot like John Corben and has similar personalities
Adrian Pasdar as Bruce Wayne/Batman
It would be amazing to see a Batman cameo towards the end of the film and seeing Adrian Pasdar as Bruce would be icing on the cake
