The Avengers (the most overrated movie of the summer) PART 1

Editorial Opinion

Okay so I know that I haven't really written or posted an article on here for a while now and that I am still quite new to this site compared to all of the comic book reading, movie viewing, geek fanatics on here; but I have viewed many of your comments about certain comic book movies that came out this year such as "The Avengers" and "The Dark Knight".

As a comicbook movie fan and as a fan of all kinds of movies in general old and new I am ashamed of some of the people on this site, The (Marvelites) and the (Nolanites) and the thing that makes me ashamed is that the more the both of you criticize each other the more you guys seem ridiculous.

Now the reason why the title of this article is called "The Avengers the most overrated movie of the summer" is because I believe that (The Avengers) is what started this nonsense, and that The Dark Knight was thrown under the bus because every Marvel fan and their mother went to go see it and praised it, when in my opinion it was and okay movie.

Now this is were you Marvelites are going to start whining and lash out on me, telling me how "The Avengers is the best movie" and how "The Avengers is winning" but to be honest I really dont care...see I hate the fact that everyday on this site there is someone picking out every little flaw of a comicbook movie to use it for an unecessary arguement, that goes on and on. Mainly The Dark Knight or The Dark Knight Rises, you people are so persistent and determined to make anything that Nolan has created or involved in seem like the most overrated movies in the industry in which I'll finally respond by saying "get a life, and learn what real movies are!".

Now don't get me wrong their were a few things I really enjoyed about the The Avengers; the comedy, Mark Rufflo's portrayal of Bruce Banner, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron-Man (of coarse), and the Helicarrier....but considering that, the movie just starts off bland to me; the thing I liked about Captain America: The First Avenger is that it started off like an adventure movie it was almost reminiscent of Raider of the lost Ark it set up the movie as an intriging movie and so expected the Avengers to start off like that as well, but instead it starts off as a typical action movie with no real witty dialogue, which Joss Whedon is known for; but with grade-b dialogue that was mainly for laughs.

The movie then has a few flashes or montages of the characters which I really would of liked to see more of, and right away the sly jokes ensue from Tony Stark to Agent Coulsen which I liked but at times seemed alittle to comedic for a movie that will eventually have to get serious. That is one of the issues about this movie is that It loves itself so much that it doesnt take itself seriously which gave the movie more of a cartoonish feel to it, and took me out of the movie.

The villian and atleast one of the main Protagonist (which I will get into later) is played by Tom Hiddleston which does an okay job with the material he has, but is written as a typical whiny villian who just wants to rule the world.

I'll venture into the flaws of the movie further in PART 2...

Actually, this nonsense all began when the Nolanites started gloating and talking shit about IRON MAN when TDK hit the billion mark........which would be back since 2009. But now that the AVENGERS set the new standard of CBMs and was a bigger financial, commercial and critical success, they pretty much backed themselves into a corner on their own undoing so to speak.

And can you actually say that Nolan's BATMAN films truly and faithfully capture the comic book essence and feel of the source material of the Batman mythos? Honestly?

This just seems like an intro. Should of did it all as one editorial.

Anyway . . . I like The Avengers. I didn't think it was the greatest thing ever. My biggest problem really boiled down to the villains. Thor beat Loki all by himself, so why should it now take 6 people? He never felt like a threat. Then once they brought in the aliens all they became was cannon fodder. If Black Widow came pick em off with her lil gun then how are they a challenge for any of the super powered guys? Just never felt like there was any danger. In a side note, seems like I might be the only one that was really happy they killed off coulson. I've always found him annoying. The exact opposite from what I expect Sheildnto be.

Also, I don't think I've really seen anyone on this site go on about Nolan like he can do no wrong, yet there is no limit to people who like to call others nolanites and point fingers whenever someone has something negativentnsay about a Mavel movie.

I liked The Avengers however I will never treat it as the greatest cbm or greatest movie of all time, same goes for The Dark Knight and Rises they all were enjoyable to me.

Overrated? Yes. Does this necessarily mean it was bad? No. I still say it was a good film, just not the greatest.

Does anyone edit his own article anymore?

Maybe you just like playing homophones.

Did you reasonably expect an intricate and dramatic plot with seven major players, six of whom are superheroes? That would be an all day movie.

Guess what, The Avengers was good, so was TDKR. Everyone, STFU. Also, is it possible to be more of a Nolanite and have a more misleading title? Seriously, dude, shit article.

It's kinda funny that the two movies at the center of a lot of the dumb shit that goes on in the comments are Avengers and TDKR, i'm assuming not to many people gave a [frick] about Spider-Man.

I remember back when TDK came out. I saw it and liked it. I came on here to talk about it like most CBM's, and I stated that I thought Batman Begins was better and that I thought Iron Man was more fune to watch.

About a year after the DVD came out, I made the comment that I like Iron Man more than TDK, and the reason why is because I can watch it over and over again, but I couldnt seem to get through TDK completely other than a handful of times.

Basically I had tons of Nolanites (before they were called that, mind you) give me all kinds of shit about being a Marvel Whore.

It was ridiculous. I love Marvel and DC comics. If its a good story I'll read it. Same with movies. People that dedicate themselves to one side are just depriving themselves of good comics. Period.

Long story short (too late, I know) this shit was going on long before Avengers.

I've been called both — however, in late-2011, they were hunting anyone who thought Rises was going to be better than The Avengers. Fun times, when you look back at it. Nolan Extremist were a dull bunch back in TDK's glory days — even now you can't have a conversation without some smartass response (I was never one of those... was I?) Marvel Supremacist have done a good job of making themselves the "bad bunch" — posting aggravating comments — and flooding threads with flashy videos/jpegs/gifs.

I don't think its overrated especially since it had so many doubters before the release saying it wouldn't do well with critics (because "its just another Bay movie") and that it wouldn't do well in the box office (because "the heroes aren't well known")

Haha, for sure man. I remember me and u being some of the only few that talked about liking Keaton and Batman 1989 the most. I still sfand by that. That was such a great movie, and I dont care what anyone says, it still felt more like the comics than Nolan's movies. Cheers from across the pond, bud. :)

Most over rated movie of the year on CBM was TDKR. In the rest of the world I would say it was Hunger Games. Either way, it wasn't Avengers.

I am trying to figure out how it was even rated, to be called 'over-rated'. Has it won a bunch of awards? The simple fact is if we were to go off the only rating available to Avengers right now, it would be critiques and box office. Avengers had mostly positive reviews and broke some box office records. It entertained the majority of people that saw it, and did so without sacrificing core values of the charactors (like saying they were retired for 8 years because they were sad, for example).

Avengers was the best representation of a comicbook reading experience brought to the big screen, ever. The only thing it felt like Marvel and Joss were trying to do was make for an enjoyable movie going experience. Not create some 'artistic vision', but interpet what us comic geeks love about the comics into film. Was it for everyone? Obviously not, but as has been said, the people that were not in awe of Avengers are the minority on this site, and the world.

So no matter what you write, you cannot change the fact that most people enjoyed Avengers, flaws and all.
