The Flash (2016) Fancast

With all of the Batman vs. Superman movie news being thrown around left and right, I came up with who should star in a movie about the scarlet speedster himself: THE FLASH!

In July of this year, Zack Snyder announced what the next project that WB and DC were going to do: Batman vs. Superman. There has been a lot of news about this movie. So much, that some people have forgotten that there is also a Flash movie in the works for a release date in 2016, and better yet, a Justice League movie in 2017. Well, I have decided who I would like to see star in these films before Hollywood has its way. I will also be doing one for Aquaman, possibly a Green Lantern reboot, and B-listed/C-listed DC Comics character. Now to give you guys a heads up, I will be casting the roles of Barry Allen, Iris West, and Flash's rogues gallery. With all that said, I give you my fancast for THE FLASH!

Charlie Hunnam as The Flash aka Barry Allen (Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim)

Yeah, you all saw this one coming. But to be honest, when I heard the rumor that WB was looking at Hunnam to play Barry Allen, I couldn't see anyone else playing the role. He has the perfect physique, perfect attitude, and is a full on badass. His performance as Becket in Pacific Rim really goes to show that.

Kate Mara as Iris West (127 Hours, Shooter, House of Cards, Transcendence)

I wanted to chose a actress I don't think anyone has thought of as far as I know. Kate is a very underrated actress who deserves more work than she's given. I originally thought of her playing Harley Quinn after watching her performance on American Horror Story, but I think she might be a better Iris.

John Hawkes as Captain Cold aka Leonard Snart (American Gangster, The Sessions)

John is one of those actors that hardly gets recognized. And I'm surprised that he has not been given a part for a super hero movie. Personally, I think he would make a kick-ass villain. He looks menacing, and he can come off menacing without even trying.

Sam Rockwell as Mirror Master aka Sam Scudder (The Green Mile, Moon, Iron Man 2, Seven Psychopaths)

Sam is absolutely perfect for this role. Mirror Master is one of those characters who will just keep talking and talking, but you won't get sick of him. Much like the actor, Sam can keep you entertained no matter what the situation. Just check out his performance in Seven Psychopaths. He is literally the best part of the movie.

John Lithgow as Gorilla Grodd (Third Rock from the Sun, Shrek, Dexter, Rise of the Planet of the Apes)

This one is a bit of a stretch, but hear me out. John Lithgow is one of my favorite actors of all time, and the only other villain I can see him playing is Scarface and the Ventriloquist. His voice alone could just be as intimidating as any other actor that could play him. He can do motion capture work or do what Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper are doing for Guardians of the Galaxy. Imagine his performance as Trinity from Dexter in the voice of a gorilla.

David Tennant as Captain Boomerang aka Owen Mercer (Doctor Who)

Another actor who I can see as many different comic book characters. I mean do I need an explanation for this one? Look at him! He was the only actor I was thinking of that could play this role flawless.

Luke Evans as Zoom aka Eobard Thawne (Immortals, Fast & Furious 6, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug)

Luke has really impressed me over the years. I thought he was an interesting choice as Zeus in Immortals (despite the critics), he was cool as Bard in The Hobbit, but my favorite performance by him was when he played Owen Shaw in Fast & Furious 6. He was the first rememberable villain in the franchise, and if he can pull something off like that, I'm pretty sure he can do the same thing in a comic book movie.

And who would I get to direct the film?

Justin Lin!

So those are my choices on who should be in the Flash movie. If you disagree, feel free to let me know who you would like to play these characters, and cast a few characters that I missed.

I agree with you on Kate Mara. She does deserve more recognition. Did you know she's the older sister of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actress Rooney Mara?

I'd be down for this!!!

MCott, yes I did know that. I think the only reason is because her sister overshadows her.

You had me with Lithgow. Dude is a great actor and he plays a phenomenal villain.

I don't mind Hunnam as Barry, but I always saw him as Green Arrow or Aquaman.

Also, what is your idea for Wally West? I have always been more into West than Allen.

Hunnam is too... Grrr! to play Flash. Doesn't have the right attitude. Too gruff. Too hard-ass.

I WOULD like to see him play Steve Trevor, tho. Steve is... kinda like Barry. Only more snarky. Pig-headed. Sarcastic. "Ladies man".

I think Grant Gustin is... fine. Not ideal, but I think my opinion of him hinges more on the writing, which imo has been less-than-stellar in his episodes. Maybe the writing will be better when he gets his own series, but until then...

Jesse Spencer. Handsome. Natural blond. Right age range. He has an intelligence about him. Maybe its because of his accent, idk... He DID play a doctor for about ten years. He LOOKS strikingly like the New 52 Barry.

A lot of people think Chris Pine would be a good choice, and while he TOO looks a lot like the New 52 renderings, his role as the VERY high profile Captain James Tiberius Kirk keeps me from hopping aboard the Pine-line. Plus, he is also is playing Jack Reacher. One actor playing so many high-profile roles bugs me. Like Chris Evans...

I agree with Hunnam as Barry Allen/The Flash and Kate Mara as Iris. Villain casting is poor and Justin Lin is all wrong for The Flash unless you want style over substance ala Snyder and Man of Steel. Neil Burger (The Illusionist, Limitless) is better and my ideal fit to direct, The Flash.

@EdgyOutsider, the reason I chose Lin because I watched Fast & Furious 6 recently and I think he's getting better as a director and I'd like to see where he can further with his talents. Neil Burger I think is a great choice. My other choices were Rupert Wyatt, Chris Miller, and Phil Lord.
