I'll give you a clue it's none of those things.

Christopher Reeve did an amazing job being the man of steel for one reason. And it isn't because he looked the part. As a child growing up watching the Superman movies I believed, I mean I really believed Superman cared about me. He really cared about people. He saved people because he, I don't know how else to say it, but he saved people because he loves them. He loves life and protects all life. Like the scene in Superman 2, when the bus full of people is about to be thrown by the villains, Superman yells out "THE PEOPLE!" You really feel like he cares. I am actually one of the few people that kind of enjoyed Superman Returns. Maybe I'm a little bias, but I did find myself smiling and cheering when he caught the plane or when he picked up an entire island. But Brandon never really seemed to care. He felt like he was just going through the motions. His best scene was probably the scene with Parker Posey. The only time I felt like he cared was when she was having a "heart attack" and he was trying to help her, even if he knew she was ok.

So that's my thoughts as a life long Superman fan. We all know the action is going to be awesome, we all know the story already (which is awesome). What they have to hit outta the park is that Superman cares. He really cares about people. For that 4 year old little boy watching a Superman movie for the first time (my son) he needs to believe Superman cares about him. That Superman would save him, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because he cares about everyone. That's the Superman I grew up with.

I agree. This is the biggest problem having Reeve not be Superman. Reeve is the OG of Supermans. Keaton to me is still the best Batman but I think Bale did great. I do feel Cavil well.

My problem is how will people feel to the Reeve films after this. Raimi and his Spider-Man films and Burton and his Batman films have gotten hated on. I don't want that to happen to the Reeve films. He doesn't deserve it.

@levitikuz i dont think that will happen. Those movies were great for their time. But i think the gap means those movies will stand in their own way.
While this one looks awesome, epic and for this generation.

That's true, but I still don't want to see Supes save another cat from a tree. That would be where I draw the line.

Despite popular beliefs, cats CAN climb down trees.

I think with all the focus they seem to be putting on the fact that Superman is human too, you just might get what you want.

Really? Riami Spiderman films still have a large fan base. And just for the record, I loved SP3. I didn't like it, I LOVED IT. I don't care what anyone says.

I agree. You could just look at Christoper's face and know that he would protect you. Look in his eyes. You'd see trust. He looked, acted and felt the part. THAT is very rare in Superhero films.

Judging from what we've seen so far, Henry has the potential to be great. As good as Reeves? Not sure. Great anyway? Definitely.

Cavil will do great as Superman. The story and cast appear to be on par with what fans want out of a great Superman movie. With that being said I think no one will bring the same charm and charisma that Reeve brought to the character. If you really whatch the old Superman films Christopher Reeve acted like Superman better than his comicbook counter part. He played the character true to the core. No one can top what he achieved as Superman but that doesn't mean Cavil won't do a great job. I'm sure he will be great in his own way. Can't wait for the Man of Steel.

The People!

Dude...we are on EXACTLY the same page. You put it in a way I've had a hard time articulating. He loves us. As a kid, especially, it was almost tangible, that feeling of knowing he'll protect us from anything. That if you strive to be like him, you KNOW, irrefutabley, that you will be a better person. Its a Christ allegory that goes beyond simple poses (Bryan Singer).

That said, its okay if that isn't in this movie. Superman has been interpreted in, so many ways, it wouldn't be fair to say a movie failed just because it didn't have this. As long as he's majestic, I'll be happy.
