Only Jokers who are in a live media is eligible. Sorry Mark “Jedi” Hamill.
TALE OF THE TAPE: JOKERS

The Contenders:

Wearing white face paint, green hair, purple tuxedo and a silly grin – Joker Romero!

Joker Romero was seen in the 1966-68 Batman series, where he tortured the Dynamic Duo with his various antics. He is known to have allied himself with other lunatics the likes of Riddler:Gorshin, Penguin: Meredith, and all the different sorts of Catwomen. He lived in a world where Batman is laughable himself.

Wearing white face paint, also has green hair, wearing similar tux and a silly grin – its Joker Nicholson!

Joker Nicholson faced off with Batman Keaton on the Batman 1989 film. In this iteration, he has the honor of being the one who created Batman by killing off Bruce Wayne’s Parents. He also has the honor of the cheesiest line ever uttered in film – “Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light?” Now I ask you, have you? Have you? Have you!

Wearing what! White face paint…green hair…. aahhh you get the idea – Joker Stoneburner!

Joker who? Joker Stoneburner… who? Stoneburner… who is he? Damn I’m missing my script… Ladies and Gentlemen Joker Stoneburner! Somebody whispers – he appeared in Birds of Prey. Really there was a Joker in BOP? And what! His voice sounds much like MARK HAMILL!!! You don’t say. Well again, ladies and gentlemen Joker Stoneburning! Whispers again -stoneburner… Joker Stormbreaker! … stoneburner… aahhh! Everybody lets welcome the other Joker!

Finally on that corner! Wearing cracked white face paint, dirty green hair, purple tux and a scarred grin – Joker Ledger!

Joker Ledger gave hell to Batman Bale on the Dark Knight (2008). Nothing is really funny with this guy because he is damn Scary! What every psychotic clown should be! So I leave you with this – Why so Serious?!

It is kinda difficult to compare the three jokers except for the one in BOP, i dunno the guy.
Joker Romero is a campy joker which fits the campy Batman series.
Joker Nicholson fits the Gothic Batman Keaton perfectly. Crazed, homicidal maniac fittingly matches the somber, silent hero.
Joker Ledger is the chaos that is the yang to the yin that is order that Bale Batman represents. They both deserved to be in the Nolan Bat Universe.

Each portrayal of the Joker therefore fits perfectly in their own respective worlds. It is therefore not fair to pick out which is the best (IMO).

Tragger Mok is right on the money. It's very difficult to compare the Jokers, since they all gave different interpretations.

However, if I had to pick my favorite live action Joker, it would be Heath. But, as I said in the Batman article, if we're talking every Joker so far, I say Hamill is the definitive Joker for me.

I voted for heath, but there is something to be ssaid for all of them. I especially liked how ceasar romaro kept his mustache. Check out some pictures of him you can see it under the make up! when I realized that as a kid I laughed for hours.

Let's put it this way guys. Suppose we change the Joker versions in the film, e.g. Joker-Heath in a Keaton-Batman world and Joker-Romero in a Bale-Batman and so on. Would you think their performances would be that effective? How would the chaotic psycho-minded Heath-Joker able to challenge the menacingly silent persona of the Keaton-Batman? I doubt if the Nicholson-Joker can pull it off perfectly against a West-Batman and vice versa? Like I said, each Joker performance is worthy to be in the Batman world they live in, thus it is really not fair to pick which one is the best. Each actors played well in their films, so kudos to all of them.
As for the Hamill-Joker, he may be good as the voice behind the animated Batman films, but until he gets the chance to be in a live-action Batman film, i don't think it would be fair also to include him in the list IMO.
Greetings to all!

It's okay to have a preference. Mine has always been Nicholson since i did enjoy the Burton films better. No harm in that.

voice actors should not count at all when talkin about live action unless they were in that as well because it is harder to be a voice actor you cant portray everythin that the character is about you just do the voice body movement and language is very important because when portraying a character heath is the best because while he was "psychotic" he had every aspect of the joker in his portrayal the jokes, the agent of chaos kill anyone any second view, his remembering of his past differently every time he talks about it, etc. mark did a great voice of the joker but heath EMBODIED the character becoming him i think that heaths joker would work in the keaton film because he was still funny just more violent. bale is batman also...sorry i had to say it

and i think its crazy to say that you cant compare them because they are different adaptions of the character everyone thinks that eric banas hulk and bruce banner were worse than edward nortons but they were different adaptions of the character eric bana did good for what the movie was very dark and psychological its a lot deeper than a lot of movies also you guys compare and say which batman is better so why not the joker i thinks its kind of a cop out to say oh they did good with how the feeling or theme of the media was its as simple as which actor brings out the character in full
