Why WB Should Keep Ryan Reynolds As Hal Jordan.

Why WB Should Keep Ryan Reynolds As Hal Jordan.

GREEN LANTERN WAS VERY UNDERATED. MY FIRST ARTICLE.

In 2010 we got the news that Green Lantern was coming out for a 2011 release with Martin Campell attached to Direct with Ryan Reynolds Starring as Hal Jordan. In June of 2011 the movie arrived in US theaters to a flurry of bad reviews and weak Box Office numbers. Most fans were greatly dissapointed with the film because it had a weak Script, Acting was below par, and The fans believed that The wrong director was chosen to Helm the film.

I, for one thought Green Lantern was a good movie with many cheesy parts and a weak female lead(Blake Lively as Carol Ferris), The Villian that was Non-Climactic and Ugly (Skarsgard's Hector Hammond). This Film had a bright spot that made me think it is a good popcorn, summer fun movie. That bright spot was Ryan Reynolds. I loved that Reynolds Charisma he had for the role, He was a perfect Hal Jordan. Below are listed reasons of why I think Reynolds should be back with the emrald ring.

1. He had the cockiness of Jordan down. Looked like he took the attitude of the character right from the comic pages.
2. Audiences would get confused if WB brought in a new guy to play him. Then the movie would be looked at as a Too-soon reeboot. Sort of like TASM, which in it's own right was a great movie.
3. I would like to see him and Batman interact in a potential Justice League Film. It could be simalar to Iron Mans and Captain Americas interactions in The Avengers.
4. In the first film, reynolds was victim to a bad script(simalar to Brandon Routh and Superman Returns) give him a good script and he will give a great performance.
5. The dialogue between him and a Chris Pine flash in a Justice League film could be comedic relief gold.
6. He didnt have a good supporting cast in the first film(save, for Mark Strong's brilliant Sinestro) he tended to out-act everyone in a scene with him, again save for Mark Strong's Sinestro.

Recast most of the Characters except for Reynolds's HAL and Mark Strong's Sinestro

Thoughts, anyone? Feel free to share.

Its funny that most people thought Ryan Reynolds was horrible as Jordan.

But those people would be right.

I agree and for continuity's sake I think it's a must to have him return. Many people don't fully realize the concept of a reboot like we do on CBM. Alot of people are ignorant going into movies and get confused easily. of course this is a generalization but that's what i've noticed from having to explain to everyone about the new spider-man.

Do not agree with this article. This was a terrible film and should be confined to history. Ive never seen Ryan Reynolds in a CBM and liked him from blade to wolverine, he was horrible in all of them. They should get someone else who treats the characters they play more seriously.

#1 Reynolds plays the same type of "cocky" role in every film he's done. His bland, schtick was annoying for Green Lantern, because it seemed forced and pretentious.

#2 Audiences won't be anymore confused by a reboot than they were for Hulk, especially since there weren't all that many people that actually watched it ;P

#3 isn't worth commenting on, but I will anyway: I like cake.

#4 Considering Reynolds is as diverse as a GOP convention and Routh is as wooden as house hold furniture, they were equally at fault for the failure of their (super) hero films.

#5 same as #3

#6 GL was just bad...bad acting, bad dialogue, bad FX...just bad.

There is a huge difference between underrated and bad, this id have to go with bad, from it's cheese factor that wasn't fun at all,to Ryan Reynolds just being himself. Id take ghost rider sov over this flick any day. Start over with a whole new everything,Hulk it out by telling the origin in the opening credits and look at it as a potential money maker.

No thanks, REBOOT. Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.

Ryan Reynolds should never be allowed to act in anything, period. I actively try to avoid movies with him in it. He shouldn't be allowed to be the makeup artists coffee bitch let alone be paid to star in anything.

I have seen the movie three times hoping that i was mistaken and each time it got worse and worse. And he has had loads of shots blade III, wolverine and now GL I dont want him in anymore CBM's. He is good for comedies and rom coms, nothing else.

Wow I don't understand why almost everyone on this site hates Reynolds. Anyone that has seen the interviews and behind the scenes stuff with him on GL would know that he read the source material and he worked really hard on this film. I got to see him at wondercon 2011 and he is one of the funniest, nicest guys in Hollywood and is a great actor that just doesn't always pick the best movies to play in. And anyone that says he just plays himself in all his films are dumbasses that probably haven't even see most of his films.

I think he did great as Hal Jordan and I hope he returns to play him in another film!

You seems to forget that "Buried" was the movie Ryan was the ONLY actor on the screen. He was the not the star in Wolverine, but that 15 minutes stays on your mine. Blade was Wesley Snipes and he said he was UPSTAGED. GL had a whole cast. Ryan ALWAYS stands out in any movie he is in. The movie "TED" he has no lines, but his presence is always outstanding. you cannot help but notice so like him or not, he is in your converstion constanly

While I'd keep him for continuity's sake I don't think Reynolds performance was anything to write home about.

Reynolds may not play the same character in every movie but for the most part they all have the same mannerisms. More often than not you are aware that you are watching a Ryan Reynolds whereas with Chris Evans for example you were watching Steve Rogers and Johnny Storm.

The numbers have shown few people have actually seen Green Lantern. Reboot, recast, represent. Nobody would notice outside the geek community.

The GL script just sucked ass!!

Now that Marvel is going to be making an actual EPIC space movie. WB should try and take another route for now with Wonder Woman and Shazam.

Green Lantern wasn't Ryan Reynolds fault. Lets remember he had a shit script to work from, the special effects sucked, and he was miscast to begin with.

The cluster [frick] that was Green Lantern falls on WB.

IDK why, but I didn't have a problem with Reynolds performance. I just feel he would have been better suited as Guy Gardner to begin with. The REAL problem with Green Lantern IMO was the tone; the director tried to appeal too much to little kids instead of older people. I wish people on here would realize that Hollywood needs to give it's actors better material in the first place so we can avoid disasters like GL.

You're telling me Blade Trinity, Wolverine Origins, and Green Lantern all underperformed because of Reynolds!?
He wasn't even the main character in Balde and hardly had any screen time in Wolverine. GL just needed a better script and everything would of been all good.

I thought Ryan was better cast as Hal then he was Deadpool and couldn't agree more he sould return as Hal. The question is though, if the studio wants him back, would he even want to. "He is Highlander Now" So who cares about Green Lantern

@Fartypants
i can't think of any other way to expand on that. i agree with you completely.

i dont know why everyone keeps saying that reynolds was perfect for jordan because honestly he wasn't. reynolds has been playing the same character for years, and it's not even himself. he's playing jason lee in his heyday.

it wouldn't be a problem if they swapped out reynolds for someone else to play GL. we've had 3 different hulks in the past 9 years and no one seems to be too heart broken by it. besides, we have stewart and rayner who have a descent fanbase to be able to pull off their own films if no one wants to see hal replaced.
