Someone was screaming.
Eddie was in the church. He had just lost his job, had been divorced, and Spider-Man was to blame. Stopped him from getting the story of a lifetime. So he did the only thing a reasonable Catholic would do. He went to church.
And the screaming began.
Now, Eddie was looking to the top of the bell tower. He couldn’t see who was up there, but he knew there was some-
“AHH!!!”
Some black goo was on his shoulder. More started to fall. Soon, his entire body was covered. Eddie’s eyes looked up in sheer terror. And closed.
“Parker.”
We looked at him. Broken. Beaten. His defeat was inevitable. We overpowered him. We raised our foot, and slammed it on his face. We smiled. Our teeth were white. That was going to change. Soon. We picked him up, crushing him. Brock was the one who smiled. I opened my mouth. And he slammed his feet into our stomach. Webs were on our chest, and he pulled us forward, slamming his fists into our jaw. Part of me fell off. It quickly rejoined. Brock told me to fight back. He said it like I wasn’t going to. I preferred Parker to Brock, but he would never join again. Never.
We smiled, and opened our mouth. After all this time, we were finally going to kill him. Spider-Man would die. By the hands of Venom. Not the Green Goblin, not Doc Ock, and not that bastard Carnage. Then he slammed his feet into us, sending us back. Then, Parker webbed our chest, pulling us forward.
‘Fight, damn it,” I thought.
‘Of course.’
The voice was still sickening, after all this time. It entered my head, and quickly left. It was raspy, and terrible to hear. But I stood it.
I didn’t want to hear Brock anymore. But we had bonded, and I wasn’t going to find the perfect host anywhere close. Not easily. We looked at him, about 20 feet away by now, and charged. We grabbed his head, and threw his body against a wall. Bricks crumbled and shattered. He grabbed one, and threw it at us. Brock grabbed the brick, and crushed it. We charged at him.
Parker was far away. Didn’t matter.
‘Charge, jump, or swing?’ I thought.
‘Charge.’
I almost shuddered. The voice, it was worse than before. God, I swear it sounded like it wanted to kill me. Horrible. At that time, I realized our legs were moving. Looks like the symbiote was doing what it wanted. It grabbed Parker’s head, and threw him against a wall. The Spider grabbed a brick, and threw it at us. The suit wasn’t doing anything, so I raised my hand, caught it and crushed it.
‘Nothing like a bit of intimidation, right?,” I thought.
‘Right.’
Did it hear me think the things about his voice? Is that why it’s so nasty today? Did it hear that?
I was sick and tired of Brock. He was insulting me, he was ordering me around like a dog, and he was doing the exact opposite of what I wanted, despite me doing what he wants. I should teach him to keep his thoughts to himsel-ow!!! The Spider had thrown another brick at us, hitting our head.
‘Dammit Brock, pay attention!”
‘I thought you would handle it.”
Oaf.
I was wondering why the suit sounded like it did, when that bastard Spider-Man hit us with a brick.
‘Dammit Brock, pay attention!’
Come on Brock, excuse, excuse...
‘I thought you would handle it.”
Okay, now that’s out of the way, it’s time to kill.
But of course he was gone.
“Come out Spider-Man. Where are you!?!”
He slammed into us from behind. We turned around, punching him.
Parker went flying. He slammed into a building, and we webbed the wall. We pulled ourselves forwards, and kicked him in. It was an office building. People screamed. They ran out of the building. Didn’t matter to us.
“You will die by my hand, Spider-Man.”
“First, major cheese-factor. Second, Venom only refers to himself as a plural. I want to talk to Brock.”
“NO!!!”
I couldn’t think. I screamed. The suit was taking full control. It scared me. It had happened before, once or twice. I wasn’t scared because I was losing my mind. I was scared because I liked it. We bared our teeth, and charged at Spider-Man.
I was eating away at Brock. He was becoming even more of a pawn to me than he was before. I was growing stronger with each part of the mind I took from Brock. I bared my teeth, and charged at Spider-Man. I grabbed his head, and jumped out of the building. I threw him towards another building, and webbed it, slamming my feet into him, and pushing him through a glass window.
“Okay Brock. You...you don’t know...whew...what you’re messing with.”
“I am not Brock!”
...
I tackled him, my tongue hanging out, between teeth. I punched him. Then again. Then again. Then again.
...
I threw Spider-Man across the room, and lunged at him. He kicked my jaw, and webbed my eyes. I ripped the web off, only to see his fist. I was knocked back, and quickly got up. He webbed the wall behind me, moved back, let go of the webs, and hurtled towards me. I was knocked through the wall, and sent flying. He webbed me in a cocoon, and attached me to the wall.
“Spider-Man wins. Brutality.”
I screamed.
...
“NO!”
I started to shake.
“Uh...Brock? What are you doing? I said brutality. You’re done.”
“I’m not doing it!”
I was sick of it. I took control of the suit, and ripped through the cocoon. I webbed the hole in the wall, and went through.
“Get this off of me!”
I was stuck. I was separated from the suit. I was in prison. I said I wanted it off. It took control of my mind but I needed it! I banged against the glass.
“I NEED IT!!!”
The guards didn’t care. Of course they didn’t. I kept banging. Soon it was late. I was tired. I banged against the glass one more time, weak, and dropped to the floor.
‘No! I can’t be in here! Damn you Brock! Damn you! How could you have gotten rid of me? Where am I? I don’t even know. Dammit!!!’
I was alone in my cell. I was never alone before. There was the suit. There was a cellmate. There was someone! Why did I ever want the suit gone. I needed it! I had to have it!
“GIVE IT TO ME!!!”
‘I’m stuck here. I’m alone. I’m going to die.’
Clam down Brock. It’s not the end of the world. It’s not the end of the world.
‘It is for me, dammit!’
Did I just think that? Oh no. I’m losing my mind.
‘Get it back. You have to get it back!’
Just wait it out Brock. You can handle it. You’ll survive. You’ll get it back soon.
‘Get it back now.’
Okay, stop thinking. Just stop-
“GET IT BACK NOW!”
I was still. I was silent. I was stuck in a glass container in the middle of a very large room. I was waiting.
“I NEED IT! WE NEED IT!”
“Shut up in there!”
Damn guards. MY eye twitched. I sat in the center of the room, and looked at the ceiling.
‘It would be convenient if the suit dripped through.’
It didn’t. I buried MY face, into MY hands. Just mine.
