New Report Claims That Obi-Wan Kenobi Will Feature In His Own STAR WARS Spin-Off

We know that Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and Josh Trank (Chronicle) have already been hired for two of the upcoming Star Wars spin-offs, but now a new report claims that the lead character in another of the future standalone movies will be none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi...

Making Star Wars have, well, been making a name for themselves lately with some pretty interesting scoops and set photos. A new report over on the site might just be the most intiguing yet however as their source has been in touch to tell them the following. "I’ve heard from quite a few people now that an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie is in the works. For the spin-off movies they were initially going to stay away from any Jedi or Sith characters. But I’m hearing now that because of the popularity of Obi-Wan (fans recently voting for him on the official website etc) that an art team is now working with a writer on concepts for an Obi-Wan movie." If this is indeed true, they're obviously at a very early stage as it's really little more than an idea as of right now (so don't expect him to be the star of either Gareth Edwards or Josh Trank's movies). The poll they're referring to is a recent tournament which saw Obi-Wan Kenobi voted one of the best Star Wars characters of all-time, something which perhaps isn't all that surprising given the fact that he was a huge part of the popular Clone Wars animated series which was targeted towards younger viewers.

As of right now, Lucasfilm's focus seems to be on stories set after the events of the prequels (which are mostly despised), so that could rule out a movie exploring his pre-Phantom Menace youth.

A far more likely option could be to show us what he was getting up to between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. We know he was on Tatooine, but you have to imagine that Obi-Wan didn't spend all those years just sitting in a hut as he kept a watchful eye on the young Luke Skywalker.

Either way, a movie starring this character has a lot of potential, and as Ewan McGregor has expressed interest in reprising the role of Obi-Wan a number of times in the past, this could very well happen! What do you think? Share your thoughts below.

So we're going to get a prequel set in his younger years?

We don't need spin-offs and origin stories for EVERY character that we love. Sometimes, the mystery of their origins is what makes them so interesting. I don't need to see an origin for Han Solo that explains exactly why he became an outlaw smuggler. I don't need to see how and why Obi-Wan became a Jedi. And I definitely didn't need to see how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader. You'd think they'd have learned these types of lessons from the Prequels by now...

This sounds like a great idea, but it has to be set between Episodes III & IV, and Ewan Mcgregor has to reprise to role.

I always found this guys ideas for how the prequel movies should have gone would have made them much more interesting and work better as movies. The main focus of the previews was never about Anakin but actually about Obi Wan and his story. His changes to much of the movies make a lot of sense and would make ep 1+2 work much better. Still waiting for him to do ep 3.

Here's a story idea: around a year after RotS, Obi Wan receives a distress signal from a Jedi who asks for help to escape the Empire or defend some planet or something. So he hesitantly leaves Luke and goes to help. When he gets thee he finds out it's a trap, so he has to go on the run and make it back to Tatooine without leading the Empire there. Set it just a few years later and it could feature Boba Fett as an antagonist. Vader could be in the movie and hunting Obi Wan without actually meeting him, so when they talk about their last fight on the Death Star it will still refer to Mustafar.

Sign me up. My favorite star wars character getting his own movie!!! I wouldnt mind to see it set during the clone wars and they could recast Anakin. My choice would be Jared Padelecki.

I don't care what anyone says, McGregor was my favorite part of the prequels, and if they make a post Episode III solo with him on Tatooine I'm seeing that shiz.

STAR WARS spin-offs are an abomination to the STAR WARS film format. But if it must be chopped to pieces and milked to mega death....

Ewan McGregor or [frick] off.

they need to make it so that Kenobi is like a wandering ronin samurai after episode 3. Make it so that he has to protect a small village or town from a group of bad guys.

@pesmerga44

Don't even bring this guy up. Perhaps his story is gold compared towards the prequels, but it doesn't make his story any more fantastic. There's a reason why this cock-wallowing douchebag didn't put a 'Part 3' in his series and that's because the over-complexity, irrational copy-and-paste-from-the-Originals-and-don't-create-an-original-story method and grandiose cliffhangers left in his Part II leads to nothing but ...

If any and all, we should be thanking the consul of the heavens above that he isn't in any way, shape, or form involved with Lucasfilm. Just my two cents.
