Despite rumors to the contrary, we're now hearing that the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot will not feature the MCU debut of the Silver Surfer after all - though there are still plans in place for the character, and Galactus will have at least one other herald in the movie.

According to scooper CanWeGetSomeToast, a Silver Surfer project is currently being developed, but it will either be a feature or a Disney+ series, and not a Special Presentation as previously reported.

MyTimeToShineHello then weighed in, suggesting that Terrax will serve the Herald of Galactus (there are whispers that the all-powerful Devourer of Worlds may have more than one servant to do his bidding).

In the comics, Terrax the Tamer was originally a Birjan tyrant named Tyros, who ultimately ended up turning on his master in an attempt to claim Earth as his own by manipulating The Fantastic Four to attack their old enemy.

These are still just rumors for the time being, but Mila Kunis - who was said to be in contention to play Sue Storm - recently indicated that at least one character has been cast, so we may get an official announcement about the movie (and possibly even a plot synopsis) fairly soon.

Matt Shakman in on board as director, with Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer currently working on the script. Plot details are still a mystery, but Kevin Feige has confirmed that this will not be another origin story for the super-team.

“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” he said in a 2022 interview, comparing this new take on the heroes to Marvel Studios' pact with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”

Fantastic Four is currently set to hit theaters in 2025.

"Mom, can we have Darkseid?"

"No, we have Darkseid at home."

Darkseid at home:

@Darkknight2149 - love smallville but their darkseid was criminal. Might’ve been too big of a final villain.

I wrote a fan fic-ish seasons 10 reworked idea years ago and I had The Elite as the villain.

I think they were trying to go for a Final Crisis-type Darkseid, but ended up doing Wal-Mart Darkseid instead.

Are we going full on Galactus in this first movie, or setting him up for a future phase? I personally would have loved for it to not necessarily retell the origin, but provide enough background and set up Mole Man or some other antagonist. Or maybe Terrax is the big bad in this one a la Steppenwolf in the now defunct JLA movie?

Mole Man would be a great way to go, he wants to destroy the topside of the Earth and level the lands down, that's something we don't see often in terms of destroying the Earth!!

@Thing94 - Is that not what Ultron wanted to do? Destroy Earth and kill billions "topside" and replace everyone with metal instead?

Seems like a decent idea. Use a less powerful herald(s) as the main physical threat for the team giving them someone's ass to kick without it seeming unrealistic or wasteful of a character like Galactus or the Silver Surfer, have the team flee from Galactus as I suggested in a previous article last week, and then set up Silver Surfer at the end ready for a sequel/spin off/Secret Wars/the next Saga.

Also how is he allowed to look identical to Darkseid? Like legally? I mean at least Thanos is purple and wears a helmet thingy 😅
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 5/1/2023, 7:21 PM
@AC1 - Probably the same way Deadpool was a total ripoff of Deathstroke. Or how Aquaman was a total ripoff of Namor. Or how Vision was a total ripoff of Red Tornado. Or how Hawkeye was a total ripoff of Green Arrow. Or how Sentry, Gladiator, and Hyperion are all total ripoff of Superman. Or how Red Hood is a total ripoff of Winter Soldier.

I could keep going. Both companies have ripped each other off so many times it's not even funny. From characters to story lines.

I has a Terrax toy “ACTION FIGURRRE!!!” Shut up bwoy, I played Royal rumble with all my fightin dudes, it’s the only time Optimus prime can square up against Beast, Bane, and Barbarian. Also a Rambo that didn’t move. And Beast Man and silver and black Spider-Man, tons of Turtles variants, and of course. Bret Hart.

Will likely just feel like another character that could be in either Guardians, Captain Marvel, or Quantumania.

MyTimeToShine: Mila Kunis will play The Thing.

Mila Kunis: I had a lunch with Matt Shakman. I'm not even in the FF movie.

MyTimeToShine: Terrax the Tamer is the big bad of FF...

I really hope they save Galactus and go with Doctor Doom as the primary antagonist for most fo the phases.
Deckacards

This concerns me, if only when thinking about how solid the writing will be...

The Surfer was pivotal to the salvation of Earth. If he's not in it, I don't see how Galactus is defeated in a way that is as solid as the original. Terrax certainly isn't going to fill the same role without significant plot changes.
