Galactus Not A Cloud In New FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER Concept Art

The website, Film Sketchr, has just gotten their hands on some really cool concept art that was made for Tim Story's Fantastic Four: Rises of the Silver Surfer. It features a humanoid form for Galactus instead of that terrible space cloud that we saw in the film.

The thing I find most amusing about 20th Century Fox's bizarre decision to have Galactus appear as a giant space cloud in Fantastic Four: Rises of the Silver Surfer, is that four years later Warner Bros. would make the SAME exact mistake with Green Lantern and have their main villain, Parallax, be a big giant space cloud too. (hands up in the air) Seriously, who are these morons at these studios that think a superhero fighting a giant space cloud is a good idea? Just for that alone directors Tim Story and Martin Campbell should be forced to spend the rest of their careers making dog food commercials.

With my little rant out of the way, let's get to some cool concept art that conceptual illustrator, Daniel James Cox, created for Fantastic Four: Rises of the Silver Surfer. The arwork (via Film Sketchr) is of a humanoid form for Galactus, that was not seen/used in the film. Keep in mind, back in 2007 when Tim Story was asked about the decision to present Galactus as just a cloud he explained that plans of a Silver Surfer spin-off film kept him from revealing Galactus true form. He didn't want to box in future director of the Silver Surfer spin-off with his take on Galactus, and thought that big reveal should be left for that film. That ill-fated decision is one of many reasons the Fantastic Four franchise fizzled out, which in turn killed any chances of a Silver Surfer solo film.

Not bad, but they choose some really horrible choices in this film, especially hiring Julian for Doom as that was just horrible to watch

Much better than the First one where he was just a cloud!

Also I hope they do DR Doom better. He's one of the greatest marvel villains and they just brushed him off like he was nothing.

Why would you not want Marvel to get the FF rights back? With the direction the MCU is going having FF, Doom, Silver Surfer, Galactus and the Skrulls back would be the best thing that could happen. So much potential there.

Does Marvel have the rights to the Watcher?

Julian McMahon is a good actor.
His entire run on Nip/Tuck kinda shows that.
It's just the direction they went for Doom was terrible, he wasn't menacing enough of a character.

I hope Fox goes down a more darker route this time.
Like Wolverine , and not to appeal to small children.

Wow FOX, really?

Yea, wasn't the reboot suppose to shoot this month?! If I don't hear any news about the F4 reboot for the rest of this year, I'm thinking that the rights will revert back to Marvel.

I giant purple-clad being who floats around in space eating planets sounds just as ridiculous as a cloud. I've said it before, and ill say it again - what works in the comics doesn't always work on screen.

The plan was for Galactus to come back in his humanoid form in the proposed third film. He was a cloud in this one, as the story focused on Silver Surfer and there was no time for a fully fleshed out Galactus.

Wasn't a huge fan of the film, but at least I do my research unlike the ignorant haters here.

@Nick56

yeah because a movie where a guy who can stretch, a woman who can go invisible, a guy who can set himself on fire at will and a rock monster is all realistic right that we can't have a proper Galactus??? Fox can suck my dick.
Nick56
Nick56 - 9/25/2013, 8:47 AM
@McNyagano I'm not saying if it would be realistic or not I'm talking about how it would look on screen. If galactus were to work, he would need to be redesigned. Of course none of it looks/is realistic but thats common to most superhero movies. The point is galactus would be a step too far if it was purely his comic book version translated on screen - it would be laughable, as laughable as a giant cloud

Galactus could work, but changes would need to be made

How was that little brown spot able to exclude itself from the big brown spot? Remarkable.

Always wondered why they called it 'Rise of the Silver Surfer' just pointed out that it wouldn't give a proper Galactus.

At least Parallax was an actual threat and was more then a cloud. :P

Come to think of it, he wasn't really a cloud to begin with.

Galactus would look amazing on screen 500 ft tall person with the ability to consume planets. You seem to lack imagination

That's a shitty reason for not showing Galactus. At least the Surfer was done well. Let's get this reboot thing going already. There's so much to explore in the Fan Four universe.
