Out of all the possible characters that could debut in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Strange helmer Scott Derrickson selected the Fantastic Four as the team he wants to see introduced the most. As he prepares to work on the inevitable Doctor Strange sequel, perhaps Derrickson has a secret desire for a meeting between Marvel's preeminent scientific mind and its most brilliant sorcerer?
Out promoting the release of Doctor Strange on home video, Derrickson told ScreenRant, "I mean, there’s a lot of discussion about Moon Knight maybe coming into the MCU. I think that’s a good idea. I dunno…Actually, scratch that answer. Here’s my answer. My answer is this: I still have hope that Fantastic Four can be properly brought into the MCU because a lot of Doctor Strange – that’s the comment I read the most during that. I love those characters and I think that they still deserve another shot at finding a true home in the MCU. I still have hope for that. That’s my honest answer."
With Marvel likely skipping SDCC this year for the D23 Expo, perhaps an announcement will be revealed regarding the homecoming of Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, Thing and the Humman Torch? Unlikely...but then again, the return of Spider-Man was at one time regarded as even more improbable and look where we are today.
