Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for Better Man, a biopic of British pop superstar Robbie Williams. The movie will play out as a fairly straightforward retelling of Williams' life and career... with the former Take That member depicted as a CGI chimpanzee.

Why the ape? You'll find out more in the accompanying featurette below, but director Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) got the idea from speaking to Williams about how he perceives himself.

Love him or hate him, there's no denying how popular Williams was back in the day. Though he may not be as familiar to U.S. fans, Williams was inarguably one of the biggest stars in the U.K. at one point.

By all accounts, Better Man is a very good watch (it holds an impressive 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 22 reviews).

A biopic, with the singer portrayed as a monkey 🤨. Hollyweird is high on themselves.

I’d rather stab myself in both eyes while pushing wasps up my ass then watch anything to do with Robbie Williams.
There’s never been a bigger oxygen-thieving talent vacuum to come out of the UK and I apologise profoundly to the rest of the world on behalf of that toilet Williams.

@NodrickStripson - Well then the monkey fits for him, yes?

@RegularPoochie - I guess so but it’s sad to see so many people put so much effort into a biopic for such an absolute gonad.

I guess it was only a matter of time before they remade Planet of the Apes. Very bold direction for the franchise............................

That looks fun imo!!.

I’m admittedly not that familiar with Robbie Williams but i like the intent behind showing him as a monkey in that it’s how he perceives himself and Gracey is also right in that it immediately engages you and stands out from being just another musical biopic.

With this and the Lego Pharrell Williams biopic , I appreciate the creatives taking swings in a genre that tends to be more straightforward

At least it's an original idea. The UK crowd is going to eat this up. I can see his music returning to the charts to a potential Christmas number 1. Smart marketing, ok-ish music and a Chimp! this is going to be a suprise hit i reckon.

Might consider going to check it...but Robbie Williams is such a dick...urgh

@Conquistador - yeah, it's definitely a way to set it apart from all the other biopics out there.

I'll probably skip it though, but this whole approach is gonna be a big hit with a lot of people indeed.

@Conquistador - trust me Me, I’m in the UK, and I will not be eating this up at all. I wouldn’t give Robbie Williams the steam from my piss.

@NodrickStripson - As am I, but i trust your not the targeted demographic. All the mums and nans in their 40's to 60's will be, who'll be left with childcare duties taking their youngers to the movies blasting Take That's Back for Good, and Robbie's Angels on repeat on the ride over.

Weird but cool idea to do something different. I'm definitely more interested in seeing it than I would have been if it was just a straight up biopic of him
