According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oz: The Great and Powerful is well on its way to earning an impressive $70 million this weekend in North America. With no serious competition (as expected, The Wizard of Oz prequel has left Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Slayer DOA with a 67% drop that resulted in a paltry $2.5 million take yesterday), some analysts are predicting that the Disney film could gross upwards of $80 million. The movie earned $24.1 million yesterday, and it looks set to become the third-best March opening of all time after last year's The Hunger Games and Alice in Wonderland the year before that. With a B+ CinemaScore and a budget north of $300 million, Disney will now be keeping an eye on how Oz: The Great and Powerful performs internationally before a sequel is guaranteed! Read my review of the movie by clicking HERE.

"Oz The Great and Powerful" imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

The more I think about it the less I like it. Completely forgettable eye candy.

@Ror

Sounds like you are trying to talk yourself out of liking it. I saw it and liked it. Of all the good things about this film Rachel Weisz is the one that stands out the best.

Saw the movie yesterday and I must say it was actually good. It was a little slow at first but a good story and I like how they explained or showed how the bad witches became who they were. Also they hinted where the scarecrow and tin man's came from.

The only tolerable character in the movie was the little china girl

Beautiful to look at. Disappointing story-wise. And per Sam Raimi it swung back and forth from horrifying to cutely funny with no gradient in between.

The China Girl was literally the only character I cared about in the entire film.

It was pretty good. The best thing about the movie was, James Franco. Mila Kunis gave a weak performance, unbelievable and VERY forgetable. Not to mention the CGI, it was terrible for the most part. It's not one I will remember in a month or two time. It's pretty good but also forgetable. If I were any of you who haven't seen it, just wait for the dvd.

James Franco and Mila's performances were shit too. I found myself the replacing JF with RDJ in my mind the entire time. Michelle Williams gave the best performance in the movie IMO
