Jason Momoa recently talked with the folks over at Den Of Geek in depth about his role in the upcoming fantasy series Game of Thrones and his portrayal of every one's favorite barbarian Conan. It is a fantastic interview and you really should follow the link below to read it in it's entirety. However, I found the following questions pertaining to Arnold Shwarzenegger particularly interesting and well worth sharing.

Are you prepared for the fanbase to explode when this film comes out?

I just hope they like it, because I've been bustin' my ass, and I hope people love it, and embrace it. You'll probably have dipshits who'll be, like [adopts whiny voice] "It's not like the 80s film.".

Well, I hope not, ‘cause that was the [frick]in' 80s. There's a lot more we can do now, dude. Some people will be like, "Oh, it's not Arnold." Well, no shit, Sherlock. I didn't plan on being like Arnold. In anything.

Would you care if Arnold gave you his blessing?

I don't care if he gives me his blessing. I love Arnold. I respect him, and love watching all his movies. I love True Lies. I love watching everything from that to Kindergarten Cop. It's a great career.

Obviously, I'm going into action, so I'm following in his footsteps in a sense, but I can't ever compare myself to Arnold. He's one of a kind. I'd never put myself in his shoes. So, I think he may like it, he may not. It's not like I'll quit acting if he doesn't like it.

Do you think you could beat him in a fight?

No, I'm sure he'll kick my ass. [laughs] I always thought that'd be funny, to be on Saturday Night Live, and do a little skit and have him come out and beat the shit out of me. I think that'd be funny. I'm always full of jokes, and I think it'd be great to just have him [frick]in' throw me around the room.

FASTER, LEANER, SKILLED SWORDSMAN, SAVAGE...

HE KEEPS IT REAL. AND ITS TRUE, YOU DON'T WANNA BE COMPARED TO ANYTHING, AND ITS NOT THE 80'S, ITS A BRAND NEW DAY WITH FX THAT WEREN'T EVEN IMAGINABLE OR POSSIBLE BACK THEN. YOU NEVER WANNA REDO SOMETHING(SUPERMAN RETURNS) YOU COMPARE IT WAY TO MUCH TO THE ORIGINAL..BEING NOSTALGIC IS LIKE THROWING RAW MEAT TO THE SHARKS(FANS AND TROLLS) OF THE INTERNET, BLOGGERS AND CHATROOM-AHOLICS WANTING TO BASH ON SOMETHING THAT ISN'T LIKE WHAT THEY WANNA SEE IN THEIR OPINION THE "STAND ALONE" FAVORITE WAY OF SEEING THEIR FAVORITE OLDSCHOOL FRANCHISE. THE ONLY TRUE WAY TO DO IT IS TO LOOK AT IT FROM A DIFFERENT ANGLE AND NOT ONLY WILL IT STAND ALONE, IT WILL BRING IN A NEW GENERATION OF FANS.

MUSCLED, BRUTE FORCE, HEAD LOPPER...

- LET ARNOLD HAVE THAT TIME, IN THAT HE OWNS THAT ROLE..LETS LET THIS GUY REPRESENT A NEW TAKE

Nice honest interview until the last question. He's being modest. He knows damn well he would dance circles around Arnold. I'll take speed and his size over Arnold's big sluggish self any day.

Nunchux@ And you know that because of....a quick teaser trailer that doesn't show much and some photos? Arnold's Conan with all the one-liners so he didn't have to say much is about as cheesy as you can get. ;-)
TheAmarilloBlack
TheAmarilloBlack - 4/4/2011, 9:54 AM
@Ranger14 CORRECT, sir.

Momoa's gonna own this role. Along with the incomparable Stephen Lang as his villian, this movie has "WIN" written all over it.

Anyone who rushes to judge this new effort based on stills and a quick teaser *cough Nunchux cough* is probably a dipshit.

AYE, CROM IS PLEASED!

I agre with those saying this is going to be a kick ass film. Arnolds movies were cool Sword a Sorcery films but this one looks and feels much more like Conan to me.
TheStranger
TheStranger - 4/4/2011, 10:48 AM
Ive been saying it all along, Momoa is a chump, and this proves it! What was the first thing Daniel Craig did when they asked him to play James Bond...write a letter and ask Sean Connery for his blessing, that is true class. What did this chump do? Tell Arnie to F himself. What a [female dog] of a human being.
SkaarJones
SkaarJones - 4/4/2011, 11:28 AM
That pic was when Arnold had to stop working out because of his congenital heart defect. I'm sure he had less time to lift as Governator as well. He is back to lifting and getting in movie shape again. He has always been a big guy and your body has muscle memory. When you get to a certain strength, your body remembers it's way back. Some people call that "old man strength".

What a [frick]in legend...although it did get kinda gay in that last sentence. But don't tell him i said that or he may punch my face

Agree with TEABAG@ completely!

RANGER@ some of Arnie's dialogue may have
been a bit corny but this whole production
looks cheap, like a higher budget SYFY
channel movie. Is that what you want for
CONAN?

This doesn't even look as good as Xena to me!

I don't have any faith in NISPEL (Ever seen
PATHFINDER?). All of his movies just seem to
have a cheapo look to them and he can't make
ancient worlds look authentic to save his hide!

@Gunsmith- You hit the nail right on the head man. RIGHT ON THE HEAD!!!I can't wait to see Mamoa does with the role. That said I still love my originals.

Dedpool - 4/4/2011, 12:28 PM
Oh and this was a great interview. EVErything I've read says he's a real down to earth person.
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 4/4/2011, 2:05 PM
DDD@ And yet we still don't agree on this film. We haven't seen any finished production work yet, but what we have seen of the production sets look like they are what they are supposed to be. As for the sets they are supposed to look rugged and true to the world that Conan traveled. It's not supposed to look over-the-top nice. It's a barbaric world. Considering we haven't seen any footage other than the quick teaser I don't know how anyone can judge the quality of the whole production. Seems as though your bias is affecting your overall opinion of the film. ;-)

Sortis@ It's absolutely ridiculous that Momoa should feel led to call Arnold and get his blessing. Comparing Sean Connery's Bond and Arnold's Conan...that's some funny stuff.
NeoBaggins
NeoBaggins - 4/4/2011, 2:06 PM

Best interview you guys ever read? Wow. To each his own I guess. D-List actor calling people "dipshits" in the same breathe he's praying they'll like the movie. Priceless. But like most here, I can't wait for it either. I'm actually foaming at the mouth. When is the SyFy channel airing it?

Rubbers - 4/4/2011, 3:02 PM
He's sooo REAL. Okay, I guess this establishes him as the next unpolished Mickey Rourke type? Remindes me of bad a$$ me... when I was 16 of course.
TheStranger
TheStranger - 4/4/2011, 4:11 PM
yeah this guy sounds like a total ass-hat, thanks for ruining one of my favorite fantasy characters momoa, you lazy [frick]in dumbass

@Ranger14 it's called professional courtesy and having class, which is something this guy has zero of, and if you can't see that by reading the interview where he calls fans of Conan dipshits for having an opinion that isn't his own, then to hell with you. Actors are called artists for a reason, it's their take on the character, not everyone likes Picasso, get over yourself.
LordHuck
LordHuck - 4/4/2011, 4:37 PM
Right he is an Artist…and generally artists don’t like to hear other people complain about their art.

And if your only complaint after seeing this Conan movie is:

“it isn’t like the 80’s movies, its different”

Then you probably are a dipshit.

------------------------------------------------------

I don’t want the actor or the director to pull a [frick]ing Superman Returns. I love the fact that they aren’t concerned about honoring or replicating the 80’s Conan franchise.

Play Conan as he is written not how some other actor interpreted how Conan was written. Same goes for the director.
