Harry Potter highest grossing franchise.

Harry Potter highest grossing franchise.

Harry Potter just passed Star Wars as the top grossing franchise ever . Can the Marvel Cinematic Universe also be considered a franchise?

On Wednesday Harry Potter the franchise pulled in 2.223 billion gross which has just surpassed Star Wars which grossed 2.218 billion. While both are very popular and Harry Potter has eight movies to Star Wars six, my question is can the Marvel Cinematic Universe also be called a franchise, and if so will it ever become the highest grossing franchise ever?

Wow what a surprise. Of course 8 movies are going to mae a lot of money. If Star wars had 8 movies it would have probably went over 3 billion by now.

Superbatspiderthingy nailed it. I'd hope with the wild popularity and 8 films they could pull it off. I personally don't think it deserves the acclaim, but then when HP books started coming out I was deep into my Tolkien phase.

You should put this in features. If you wanted this in the editorial section, you should of expanded on what you had with at least four paragraphs. Also, I wouldn't call "the Marvel Cinematic Universe" a single franchise. It was a few franchises setting up for one big franchise.

@Xenix: Maybey he's talking Domestically, while you're talking internationally.

sorry if I didn't do this right this is my first article , and yes it is domestically also it included James Bond and Batman in the 2 billion club if they were adjusted for inflation .

I don't see how the MCU can't be considered a franchise , if all the movies took place in their own universes then yes each would be their own franchise . But if they are all in the same universe and events that take place effect them all how can it not be one franchise . That would be like saying if they made another Star Wars movie in the same universe but with different people that it wouldn't be Star Wars .

@thunderforce: No, it wouldn't be like that scenario because those movies would be considered spin-offs of Star Wars. the Avengers is the pin-off of multiple franchises into one. It's alot to do with which movies came first.

I agree @Thunderforce MCU is a franchise... it has stuff to go on other characters but if they did a spin off character in star wars it would still be star wars... or for instance tron is a franchise yet, the sequel legacy went off for the most part and developed another character then it will probably follow another character so I would say the MCU is the same thing.

on if it will be the highest grossing franchise: probably but it will take a while, most people don't know who for instance thor is whereas Star Wars is easy to recognize same for Harry Potter but after a while I think people will figure out that it's the MCU and go to more movies... even if not, if every movie does just as good as Thor does and they make about 20 more movies or so it will out do everything just because of sheer number... lol

oh btw @Thunderforce good article! just if you want to make another editorial you might do it a bit longer... lol but it's not a big deal... it's a great job for a first article! ;) btw love that avatar! ;) Thor is one of my favorite superheros :)
