HARRY POTTER And JAMES BOND Star Ralph Fiennes Defends Author J.K. Rowling From "Disgusting" Verbal Abuse

You probably don't need us to tell you J.K. Rowling has become a controversial figure due to her outspoken views, but actor Ralph Fiennes is now coming under fire for speaking out in support of the author.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has become a rather controversial figure in recent years, with her views on the transgender community proving particularly problematic for many of her (now former) fans. Ultimately, some agree with the concerns she's expressed with trans people identifying as female, while others have dismissed the writer as transphobic.

Inevitably, everyone has an opinion on the matter, but key members of the Harry Potter cast - likely looking to avoid being tarred with the same brush - have mostly rejected Rowling's viewpoint.

Someone who is now standing up for her, though, is Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes.

"J.K. Rowling has written these great books about empowerment, about young children finding themselves as human beings," he said in a recent interview (via SFFGazette.com). "It’s about how you become a better, stronger, more morally centered human being. The verbal abuse directed at her is disgusting, it’s appalling."

"I mean, I can understand a viewpoint that might be angry at what she says about women," Fiennes continued. "But it’s not some obscene, über-right-wing fascist. It’s just a woman saying, ‘I’m a woman and I feel I’m a woman and I want to be able to say that I’m a woman.’ And I understand where she’s coming from. Even though I’m not a woman."

Rowling has indeed been subjected to a torrent of abuse and death threats since making her thoughts known, with one Twitter user telling the author she would be "next" following a Tweet which saw her comment on the attempted murder of fellow writer Salman Rushdie.

No matter where you fall in this debate, Fiennes concluded with an undeniably accurate take on cancel culture. "Righteous anger is righteous, but often it becomes kind of dumb because it can’t work its way through the gray areas. It has no nuance."

As of right now, it doesn't appear as if there are any plans for Fantastic Beasts 4 and, for the most part, Rowling seems to have taken a step back from the Harry Potter franchise (she won't be involved with the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy video game, for example).

Stay tuned to SFFGazette.com for the latest on future plans for the series.

@Razorface1 - yup. It’s not that she can’t call herself a woman. It’s that she says trans women are not women

@MikeyL - Trans women can make believe all they want, end of the day, they still aren't women. Period. I can dress up and call myself Obama. It doesn't actually make me Obama though.

@MikeyL - Equating trans women and biological women is wrong. They aren’t the same. I will use female pronouns with a trans woman out of courtesy, but it’s absolutely nonsensical to try to claim that they are the same. Rowling has called out certain situations that are problematic - like trans women going to female jails. This is a problem. It has resulted in rapes and is also abused by some that want an easier experience. There should be places that are free of male genitalia. Jails, locker rooms and spas for example. Biological women should be able to go to those places and know they won’t have to see male genitalia. And then there is the sport issue. Womens sports should be 100% restricted to biological women. And no surgeries or hormone blockers for kids.

Just because someone is trans doesn’t mean they can do whatever they want. There has to be some balance here. Rowling was right and the stupid woke mob jumped on her. Good thing the tides are turning and trans people are not given all their special privileges with no pushback anymore.

@Razorface1 - Is she oppressing them though?

A trans woman can still make another woman pregnant. They probably shouldn't be sent to the same jails. That's just creating a new humanitarian problem.

Maybe she's being a bit over the top with toilets and such. Rape can happen in any shared toilets.
I can understand her no wanting urinals, but then neither do I. It's uncivilised in this modern day and age to have to stand inbetween two other men with their cocks out, just because you need to piss. Lets evolve, huh?

But if everyone's got a booth, I don't see a problem with shared toilets. They're shared anyway, gender shouldn't make a difference.

@MrShow - Funny how your side can only respond with insults, which by the way i’ve never been to 4chan and only heard it referenced by people like you before.

Please try to point out one thing I said that was factually incorrect. See I like to deal with facts and reality rather than propaganda and emotional appeals like the people who try to pretend that there are no problems with this issue.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - if you don’t like what he saying why not just let him talk and get canceled? As a fan of his free speech, I’ll enjoy those last few sentences that get published before his social credit score makes him much poor than Kanye just got. And that’s one guy who’s free-speech I didn’t like. Being from Cuba, at least they’re not getting the firing squad. More like fired from the squad.

Supercat6376 - 10/26/2022, 10:00 PM
@TheWalkingCuban - it’s all moving to a social credit score. That’s the game right there and most people don’t know it or think the idea is some conspiracy theory. Smh
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 10/26/2022, 10:05 PM
@Supercat6376 - cognitive dissonance, lots of things have come to bankruptcy simply because Google stop having them on the search for on their period. Heck, I remember Nicki Minaj supporting Donald Trump in 2016 and the response was Swift, not Taylor, and she’s backtrack even Swiffer, not the mop. Just look at Kanye, he was a billionaire like two or three days ago and now it’s worth 400 million and uncounting. This son of a Cuban recognizes all the symptoms. I didn’t used to, until I went there. Once I went there I saw with my own eyes, that it does not work. What gets me the most is that everybody with their righteous causes don’t realize that those are the causes of fake media, big Pharma, Hollywood elites, we’re not talking about just the bottom of the society. I mentioned that be enough to at least make one suspect he is being duped?!

@Supercat6376 - yeah the open borders policy will backfire like never before. The most Cubans, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans to ever come here EVER… and they think maybe they’ll vote for another oppressive regime? They shoulda stuck to Mexicans and Hondurans (I’m half Cuban half Honduran, Cubiche/Catracho)
mountainman
mountainman - 10/27/2022, 9:32 AM
@Supercat6376 - The people who are still all in on these work issues don’t get it. The may after November 8th. Hispanics are going to continue to lean Republican. Heck, I’ve been a third party or no voter my whole life and I’m 40. Hated both parties. Back in the GW Bush days, I hated Republicans far more. But over the last 15 years, the Democrats have gone way off the deep end and the Republicans have gotten slightly less bad. I still don’t like many Rs, but I have for the first time in my life voted straight ticket Republican this year. And many other people like me that were either independent or center left have done the same. Maybe the Democrats will realize and moderate their positions a bit, because they are certainly the more extreme party in America right now.
Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 10/27/2022, 10:16 AM
@Supercat6376 - Yeah, it's like people can't just openly be assholes or bigots without suffering some social or career consequences? Whatever happened to the good old days, when we could just yell slurs at marginalized communities with impunity?
Supercat6376
Supercat6376 - 10/27/2022, 10:18 AM
@mountainman - I feel you. Democrats have lost their minds and MOST republicans don’t care about that as long as they can maintain the power and Influence they wield even when in the minority. Their pockets are kept full while democrats spread their madness and the average person suffers for it. It’s the uniparty.

@ClintThaHamster - If tou would have taken all the vile stuff Kanye said recently and, instead of Jews, changed it to “white people”, nobody in the mainstream would have any issue. Major policians and media personalities say racist things against white people all the time.
Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 10/28/2022, 2:02 PM
@mountainman - White people are not a marginalized group tho. We've had ALL the power in the US and most of the Western world for the last 400 years. There hasn't been a holocaust of 6 million white people in the last 100 years, for example. It's apples and oranges, Mr Mountain Man.

Supercat6376
Supercat6376 - 10/28/2022, 7:51 PM
@ClintThaHamster - you feel that me not accepting someone else’s mental illness as fact make me a bigot. You can do you but I can think you’re mentally I’ll and not have to accept that illness as reality. You threw out an insult first. I responded with one that didn’t beat around the bush 🤷🏻‍♂️
Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 10/31/2022, 8:48 AM
@Supercat6376 - Mental illness is a fraught term, loaded with stigma. But, even if I were to grant you that body dysmorphia is a mental illness, the treatment for that mental illness is gender affirming care. ie, HRT, gender affirming surgery, and, in kids, puberty blockers. But the goal of the treatment is not to force these folks to conform with mainstream gender norms, but to keep them dying by suicide.
Supercat6376
Supercat6376 - 11/1/2022, 6:47 AM
@ClintThaHamster - that is absolutely not true. The majority of those poor kids who’s parents and society acquiesced and allowed that mutilation still have just as high of a suicide rate and often regret getting the surgeries later on in life. Englands version of our Health department said as much about a week ago and tried blaming our government for exporting gender affirming care all over there world.
