According to the actors official website, Ian Mckellen has confirmed that filming on the long awaited adaptation will begin this July in New Zealand. Currently two films are planned.

“Filming will take over a year,” says the announcement, which confirms that McKellen will reprise his role as the wizard Gandalf. “Casting in Los Angeles, New York City and London has started. The script too proceeds. The first draft is crammed with old and new friends, again on a quest in Middle Earth. The director Guillermo del Toro is now living in Wellington, close to the Jacksons’ and the studio in Miramar.”

I have repeatedly said on this site that this movie will never happen. And despite this announcement I still believe that.....but maybe Im wrong. :)

I for one would love to see The Hobbit. But my personal favorite of the Middle Earth Lore is
"The Silmarillion". A great book with loads of movie material in it. My favorite character from that book is Feanor. Thanks for the Article Superdog.

I do have to say that trying to post first is fun, but I guess it gets annoying to people after awhile. I wonder what they will restrict next here.

no ones restricting it. and it is fun sometimes to be first. but if your first you should still say something about the article, as opposed to just saying first.

Thats wild, his website said June yesterday.
This is what it said yesterday...

THE HOBBIT’s, two films, start shooting in New Zealand in June. Filming will take over a year. Casting in Los Angeles, New York City and London has started. The script too proceeds. The first draft is crammed with old and new friends, again on a quest in Middle Earth. The director Guillermo del Toro is now living in Wellington, close to the Jacksons’ and the studio in Miramar.

Hey flames, if ya don't like it, don't comment, we know that you don't like the Hobbit, but there are lots of people that are looking forward to it. Move on to another article & shuddap. ;)

Anyways, just the fact that Ian is playing Gandalf again makes me really excited for this movie, can't wait for it! :)

Valerie@ cause every piece of news about this movie always has something to do with delay. It was supposed to start years ago and here we sit. When the cameras start rolling I'll start believing.:)

"the first draft is crammed with old and new friends" ? I do NOT like the sound of this one bit! The ONLY characters that should recur from LOTR are Gandalf, Elrond, Bilbo, and Gollum. I also do NOT like this "two movie" thing. The story should be doable in one three-plus hour film. Anything more is padding the hell out of the story, and is detracting from the excellent original story as written by the Master himself.

Why would somebody who doesn't even like The Hobbit come to say "[frick] the hobbit"? Is there a good explanation for this or what?
Scorpioxfactor

I don't know why flames would say that. But I know that people have a right to post things. Even though they should be more P.C. these days. I remember when forums were just to say what they want now it just starts to get a little tense. Then we go to new websites to check out. This is a good place to go without worrying about ridicule and also to bond with other members of CBM and talk about what we love, whether it is our opinion to be negative or positive is in our power. The freedom we have to do that here is a grand thing, but it is depressing to be too controlled and all that. As long we try to be honest and have a good time as long as we aren't hurting anybody, there shouldn't be a problem.

But about 7-8 months ago, there was something here on this site about it getting more attention and it is going to be a little more stricter. So I try to keep that in mind. I hope this website doesn't lose the wonder and fun as when I found it in order to get to where it needs to be. It is a shame though that things start to get more stringent. But, what can we do? Just have fun and be good to your fellow CBM member.

@Flames809

What you have done here is essentially walk over the Air hockey table in the bowling alley. Once there you started telling everyone who is playing air hockey how much you hate it and how stupid it is.

You comments are Rude, Useless and non conducive to any form of conversation or debate.
