This morning, The Hobbit trilogy director Peter Jackson posted on his Facebook page that Gandalf's time in Middle Earth is at an end.

"Seconds ago we finished our last shot with Gandalf. The end of an incredible adventure that began in 1999. I'm feeling very sad right now."

Adam Brown (who plays Ori in the films) had this to say about his fellow actor's last day.

Although it isn't the end for the trilogy, this is truly an end of an era for one of the best characters ever to grace the movie screen.

Next year, with all due respect, say goodbye to Magneto. We need a reboot.

I hope the Middle-earth stories don't stop at the Hobbit. I hope they make adaptations to Tolkiens other works.

He was the best thing in the Hobbit. His scenes with Cate, Hugo, and Christopher Lee are the highlights of this movie.
He did an outstanding job considering it was his fourth time.

@marvelstudios - They can't. Currently the Tolkien Estate owns the rights the rest of Tolkien's works, which includes The Silmarillion, and have absolutely no desire in giving up those rights

Thank god he is just leaving the role! Althought thats pretty [frick]ing sad too.

After reading the headline i thought that McKellen had died. That scared the hell out of me.

@JediRob: Dumbass, First Class was a prequel that retcons the previous films. it's not a reboot.
