DISCLAIMER: This is a bad movie, I advise you not to watch it if you haven't already seen it. In fact if you haven't seen it consider yourself lucky.
One of the things I do in my spare time is I write short stories/novellas. I try not to write anything that I would not like to see if it was a movie. That said, there was this story I was going to write, it happened to be about a girl escaping from an insane asylum. It would take place between first and third person so that the reader could grasp a better understanding of how she sees the world and how the world actually is. The girl IS insane. Very much like the movie, she hallucinates that the world is very much more like a battlefield, then boring hallways, desks and paperwork. Her hallucinations are basically enhanced, bloody, gory, violent exaggerations of the real world. As I said before it would follow her escape from the asylum. At the time of thinking this up, I had never heard of Sucker Punch, or what it was about. It wasn't until I found the trailer online that I realized how similar the movie was to my story (granted the girls in my story weren't going to be in such revealing clothing). As soon as I learned that my story wasn't as original as I had thought, I decided to cancel the prospect of writing it. However I can tell you, what I was going to write was substantially better than the movie, having not only action and adventure, but deep characters, rich story and background, social commentary, and a tad bit of philosophy thrown in there as well.
When I saw the movie, I enjoyed the hell out of it. It wasn't what I was going to write, but the premise of the movie was what kept me glued to the screen. I knew and know the movie was bad, but in some strange way I still like it. The end credits in particular I died laughing, not unlike the Joker when he is being beat up by Batman during the interrogation scene of The Dark Knight. I suppose the reason I still like it is just the primal thrill of seeing something I wanted to write that was made into a movie, even if it was hugely different.
I suppose this kind of editorial doesn't leave much to comment on, and so I will leave you with this: what movie do you unobjectionable love, despite the actual quality?
