Further proving that it's a massive box office phenomenon, POTC: On Stranger Tides passes $700 million worldwide at the box office, setting a record by earning this much on its 16th day since its release. It also beats Fast Five ($547.2 million worldwide) as the highest grossing film of the year thus far. The Hollywood Reporter has the following info...

Setting an industry record for speed, Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides sailed past the $700 million mark at the worldwide box office on Friday, its 16th day in release.

The pic's international cume now stands at $536.7 million, while it has grossed $172.2 million in North America. The global total is $708.9 million.

Guess I can't say I'm surprised that a fifth installment is already in development. Anyways, Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is out now at your local theater!
