'The Hobbit' To Be Or Not To Be In 3-D!

Will your next trip to middle earth be in 3-D? This visual question is at least being asked and not ordered!

The below came from Theonering.net, when asked if 'The Hobbit' will or will not be in 3-D?

"I wouldn't read much on it just yet, but now, after all this time, after AVATAR doing the Box Office it did, we have had enquires from above about The Hobbit being in 3-D.

No impositions or heavy leaning. Just enquires. Just fulfilling my promise to let you all know if discussions ever started.

Cheers

GDT"

I think it's a step in the right direction. Movie producers actually weighing in on the question of 'To Be Or Not To Be In 3-D?' It's the million dollar question on every Hollywood producers mind. Some films need 3-D, some films are better because of 3-D. But most of the movie going audience could care less either way. What they want is a good solid movie and after the original LOTR trilogy, 'The Hobbit' better deliver.

Having 3D in The Hobbit would definitely be crossing a line. But at least this movie is getting made. Fans have been waiting in anticipation for this film for almost 70 years

after the original trilogy, having it in 3d would just feel like a cheapened, fluffed-up follow-up, lotr has a rich history and story to be told, theres no need for flashy visual effects like 3D to be used as a crutch.

Man I'm getting tired of every studio thinking that in order to make a good film you NEED to make it 3D. Some films just aren't meant for 3D (hint hint The Hobbit)

im with you guys... 3D is getting WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overused... and like Rinjo siad, some are using it as a crutch rather than bringing us something decent to sit through for 2+ hours. keep your lame glasses!!!!

I really enjoyed roasting Hobbits in Overlord! If they get roasted in 3D live action I'd really enjoy that too!

they can make it in 3D if they want, as long as I can still watch it in 2D at the cinemas and at home

Those of you who are against it, why do you care? It's not like they won't put it in 2D theaters as well. Let people decide when they go to the theater whether they want to see it in 3D.

The Hobbit in 3D would be nothing short of an insult.

3d's just like EVERYTHING ELSE - if it's used tastefully it enhances the experience; if it's used shittily, it detracts from the experience and becomes useless, unnecessary, and annoying.

Now I think Avatar demonstrated that it can be used with exceptional purpose and balance.

Of course there will be a bunch of morons trying to capitalize off it, and making completely pathetic attempts at using it (Bay no doubt being one lol - yes he is "experimenting with it right now for T3").

I pretty well doubt Del Toro will abuse it.

BALANCE, BALANCE, BALANCE my friends.

I say do the Hobbit in smella-vision! ;p

comicb00kguy
comicb00kguy - 3/2/2010, 9:25 AM
SHO: Smella-vision is a LOT better idea than 3D. Experience the funk of Smaug's lair! The ecstasy of the senses that is Rivendell! The mustiness of the trolls' lair! Now THAT could be fun!

Onecomicfan: I hope that if they do The Hobbit in 3d, they will at least have the consideration to offer it in 2d also for those of us who dislike the gimmick, both in theaters and on video. I don't mind it being used as a gimmick in some movies that NEED a good gimmick to get you into a theater, like a cheesy horror film, or something set in outer space, maybe. I'm really getting tired of hearing that every freaking movie that's coming out now is going to be 3d, though. A good story sells itself, and doesn't rely on stupid parlor tricks to get you into the theater.
