When asked regarding the status of Flash Gordon:

"We broke story with the writers [Matt] Sazama and [Burk] Sharpless for the last five or six months or so. They went to draft just as we started shooting, and they're going to get to me a draft at wrap. I'll read it and do notes and we'll do a polish on that and give it to the studio a couple months from now. Hopefully the studio will like it and we'll go forward. It's a big movie and the studio has got to love the script."

"The thing about FLASH is, you've got to throw away the 80s version of it. I want it to be intense, aggressive, gritty and real. For me it's about reinventing FLASH - we're still staying true to the adventure origins of it, and the adventurous spirit in that movie, absolutely. It's this man brought to another planet and uniting the disperate groups on Mongo, but there is a gritty, intense, dynamic, active quality to the movie. Very modern. It's not camp."

Cut out the camp, cut out the cheese. Sounds like a plan to me.

All they have to do is adapt the DC miniseries from the late eighties early nineties(?) and it will be awesome.

All that other stuff is fine but he better still be the QB of the Jets, cause I couldn't see Eli Manning pulling of the part.

Flash wasn't a quarterback in the original comic strip or in the old Buster Crabbe serials -- that was added for the 80's movie.

I loved the campy 80's movie, except the acting of Sam J. Jones was so wooden it almost ruined it. Max Von Sydow was PERFECT as Ming. Topol as Zarkov, Timothy Dalton and Brian Blessed as the competing factions. It was a great cast. The campiness came from screenplay writer Lorenzo Semple, Jr., who was one of the writers for the old campy Batman television series.

But for a re-make? Turning Flash into a pure adventure flick should be interesting. In effect, he is an outer space verion of Indiana Jones -- an ordinary guy able to do seven impossible things before breakfast. He has Ming instead of Nazis, and he's trying to save the Earth instead of archeological treasures. It could be good, or it could suck.
