THOR: RAGNAROK's Taika Waititi Will Reportedly Write And Direct Animated FLASH GORDON For Fox/Disney

Deadline is reporting that Fox/Disney has chosen Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi to "crack" a big screen reboot of Flash Gordon. However, rather than being live-action, this new take will reportedly be an animated adventure which the trade says the filmmaker is attached to write and direct.

Waititi was previously set to direct a stop-motion movie called Bubbles for Netflix which would have told Michael Jackson's life story through the eyes of his pet chimp. However, the allegations made in HBO's Leaving Neverland documentary resulted in the project being shelved for the foreseeable future, and Waititi was quick to pull out due to "scheduling" issues.

Various versions of Flash Gordon have been in development for years now, but this is the first time we've heard about an animated take on the iconic property.

It will be very interesting to see how this one comes together and whether this has any sort of impact on the director's long-rumoured involvement with a fourth Thor movie for Marvel Studios.

How do you guys feel about an animated take on Flash Gordon

He's probably gonna get an Oscar nomination for directing Jojo Rabbit based on what early word's been on that film. Starts shooting AKIRA towards the end of the year, and then he still has this project right after. Busy guy

40 years is a long time to wait for what hopefully will be a sequel of sorts to one of the greatest films ever made. I don't care what anyone says.

@Battabing - Maybe she'll halt some of the upcoming certified bombs like Matrix 4 and Fantastic Beasts 3. Those two seem like Dark Phoenix 2.0

I hope, hope, HOPE Taika talks to Bri May and Roger Taylor to get a little permission to use some of that glorious soundtrack.

@GeneralZod - I agree. This is one of components of the film that made Flash Gordon a masterpiece. Sam Jones better be given a prominent cameo as well. I met him a few years back and he lived up to my child hood hero status.

There is a band in NYC called The Losers Lounge that has guest singers and performers based around an artist or theme. Their Queen tribute is not to be missed and featured the Flash theme song performed buy a guy in full Ming attire.
