Deadline is reporting that Fox/Disney has chosen
Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi to "crack" a big screen reboot of
Flash Gordon. However, rather than being live-action, this new take will reportedly be an animated adventure which the trade says the filmmaker is attached to write and direct.
Waititi was previously set to direct a stop-motion movie called
Bubbles for Netflix which would have told Michael Jackson's life story through the eyes of his pet chimp. However, the allegations made in HBO's
Leaving Neverland documentary resulted in the project being shelved for the foreseeable future, and Waititi was quick to pull out due to "scheduling" issues.
Various versions of
Flash Gordon have been in development for years now, but this is the first time we've heard about an animated take on the iconic property.
It will be very interesting to see how this one comes together and whether this has any sort of impact on the director's long-rumoured involvement with a fourth
Thor movie for Marvel Studios.
How do you guys feel about an animated take on
Flash Gordon?
