Nicolas Cage is planning to reprise his 2007 role as Johnny Blaze aka, Ghost Rider. Cage told MTV News that a writer is currently being sought for the follow-up.

The sequel, may see the biker from hell battle evil in Europe alongside the Catholic Church is still in its early stages. A director is also needed for the film. Mark Steven Johnson, co-writer and director of “Daredevil” and the first “Ghost Rider” film, seems like a likely candidate for either role in the sequel, Cage said nothing’s been decided so far.

“Everyone is very busy. I know Mark has his own thing going on,” Cage told MTV, “It’s up to the studio. It’s really in their hands.”

When asked which elements the sequel should include, Cage spoke tentatively given the early stage of “Ghost Rider 2″ development. He did, however, point out the importance of some signature Ghost Rider themes.

“It has to have that action horror element and go deeper into that if it were to happen and [it should] keep us asking questions. Keep it interesting on a philosophical level,” said Cage.

Well hopefully this Ghost Rider will be more true to the comics, and not have Mephisto be the actual devil, though Peter Fonda is very Satanic and evil.

I liked the first movie. I'm not really familiar with the character, so maybe that's why, but I thought it was overall a really good movie. I look forward to another one. And yes, I like Nicholas Cage.

Mark Steven Johnson is up there with Brent Ratner to me. He needs to be taken away from any comic property. The way they did Blackheart broke my heart. And I don't think I need to comment on what a steaming pile Daredevil was. As far as Cage playing Ghost Rider, he needs to stop acting like a child who's getting to portray his favorite character. Just some trivia, Nicholas Cage real name is Nicholas Copalla. He chose to pen-name, Cage, based on one of his favorite comicbook characters.

@ TheMyth,
Nicolas Cage changed his name so that he wouldn't get acting jobs based on Francis Ford Coppola (a very well respected director) being his uncle. Who cares if he changed it to his favourite comic book character. It's nice to see an actor passionate about playing a comic book character. So maybe you should do your research before talking trash.

I didn't think Ghost Rider was that bad it had lots of room for improvement, but wasn't terrible and I thought if nothing else Cage did a good job. Just had some poor writing. I would of given it a 7 out of 10 at the very worst a 6.5. Daredevil on the other hand is a different story. It wasn't terrible, but certainly not good. I think Ben Affleck was actually one of the good parts of the film. I thought he did fine. I thought it was a few story elements and a little bit to much cheesyness that drug it down. I would say it was a 6 at best though a 5.5 is more accurate.

@Venom001: Obviously you are the only moron who was unable to logically deduce that based on the info already given, and, uh, hello, it's a comic book movie website. Some COMIC fans may appreciate knowing that an actor who is an actual fan want to portray a comic character. Your lack of deductive reasoning is astounding. I hope you haven't reproduced. Now, I forgive you for taking your bad evening out on me.

@Logan-X: I never said I didn't want to see sequels of either of those. I think Cage did a good enough job. And it may not have been called Blackheart, but if YOU knew anything about the comics, you know they [frick]ed the character up, and a shitty villain makes for an uninteresting movie. If you'd noted my first statement about the director, you'd know that's where I feel the main problems lie in those movie's and why they don't even come to par in competition to the more recent mentionables. Ben Affleck for DD was one of the worst casting choices I've ever seen. Had they used someone better for the role, it would have made for a much better movie as many of the elements were there.

Jeez! What's with people being so pissed and venting in posts? Ridiculous. Grow up.

I gotta ask how was Ben Affleck such a terrible choice. The guy isn't at all a bad actor and I found him to be very convincing in the role. The major problems were the extreme camp elements that were written in Electra hurt it because she took away from the Daredevil aspect of it and made it more of a shared film and the Villians were poorly chosen and cast. I fail to see anything wrong with Affleck.
TheMyth
TheMyth - 3/23/2009, 1:45 AM
@stupify_me: It was his fighting. It all looked to rehearsed and even at times like he was still struggling with the choreography. It was almost awkward at times to me. Daredevil fights with great acrobatic skill and finesse. He was fine as Murdock, but not as the alter ego. I liken it to George Clooney as Batman. Affleck is a fine actor, just not a good Daredevil... at all. If your referring to Bullseye when you say '... the Villians were poorly chosen and cast." then I agree. I feel like Colin overacted it a bit, even though Bullseye is an over-the-top character.
stupify_me
stupify_me - 3/23/2009, 2:08 AM
The fighting in my opinion wasn't at all Ben's fault. The place that blame right on the shoulders of the Director and the choreography.

I was referring to Bullseye and King pin I thought both were awful choices. Some people have argued who else would you cast as King Pin and for me I usually find that there is always someone out that and if you honest to god can't find anyone decently suitable to the role then change something write him out or something.

Your right it wasn't that bad. I think the reason some people really bash it is one of two things they have an unnatural and unfair hatred for all things Cage or two they expected more out of it and were disappointed it. It wasn't among the best or worst of comic films it was simply just ok and a lot of people over hyped them selves on it because fairly early on it had a lot of promise.

It's good news for the production if they decide to film in Europe (prague hopefully), so they can take a note from Deltorro, just hang up on them everytime they give you a shit idea and blame it on the bad connection.

Sorry, I just can't get on board with anything Nicolas Cage, he just comes off as an awkward high schooler in the senior play.

As for the first movie, I enjoyed it. Certainly no Iron Man, but it was fun. I think it should be viewed for what it was though, a western. I mean come on, it had Peter Fonda and Sam Elliot (who is only THA MAN)! If that doesn't say western I don't know what does.

FalconX2 you don't make much sense. So you don't get on board with any thing Nic Cage yet you enjoyed the first one?

I don't understand the blind hatred for Cage he is a great actor. If anyone actually watched his earlier films they would see that. If you base your opinion off of the films he has been picking in the last 4 years than you shouldn't even be watching movies anyway.

I LOVED THE FIRST ONE, YOU NEVER CAN MAKE IT EXACTLLY LIKE THE COMIC BUT IT DID A FAIRLY GOOD JOB, THEY TOOK LIBERTIES BUT THEY WERE ACCEPTABLE. ID LOVE TO SEE PETER FONDA AS MEPHISTO AGAIN, IT WOULD BE COOL IF MEPHISTO SENT BADILINO OR VENGENCE AFTER JHONNY BLAZE, MAYBE BRING IN SOME OTHER MARVEL MONSTERS INTO THE FOLD.

Cage CAN be a great actor..but more often than not these days he just phones it in and has almost become a parody of himself. Ghost Rider..the character..was cool and one or two scenes worked but thats it. Wes Bently was cringe inducing as Blackheart and the story was terrible..but since i had no expectations going in i didnt hate it..id watch a sequel.

Daredevil is in a different league..if just one or two things were done differently it would have been a great movie, but i couldnt get over the gay Hells Angel costume and some very dodgy moments (playground fight, bad cgi, most of the fight scenes) but even so its still very good and i think totally underrated..i mean it gets lumped in with Ghost Rider, FF and Elektra as a failure and it does not deserve that

I think Cage is fine but the movie was freaking awful the time that Ghost Rider went "uh uh uhhuuu" and did that thing with his finger I almost puked. And Blackheart was awful "Call me legion for we are maaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyyyyy"

OMFG

If they make a sequel with more horror they need to show the "True" demonic representations of Blackheart and Mephisto. Also bring out my favorite character in the series Vengeance! Represent these three characters correctly along with a good script and it should be watchable. More action and horror and less jelly beans and The Carpenters music (although I do like their music). As long as Nic Cage's hair piece stays on his head he should be fine.

The problem with GhostRider WAS the acting but not Nick Cage's. Other than Nick Cage, Donald Logue and Sam Elliott, every other performance in that movie sucked MAJOR balls. The worst possible performances were EVA MENDEZ (god damn that girl can't act and is also baby vomit award worthy) and Peter Fonda. I don't know what the [frick] he was trying to pull with his performance but he looked like a senile old fart that was lost for words. You want a convincing demon, try Viggo Mortensen (The Prophecy), Peter Stormare (constantine), Tim Curry (Legend), Sam Neill (Event Horizon), Gabriel Byrne (End of Days) hell even Charles Dance was better in the freakin golden child!!! If i can offer someone else that would have similar looks to Peter Fonda but would actually be able to land a BELIEVEBLE performance, Rutger Hauer, Lance Henrickson or maybe even Jack Nicholson would've been way better!!!!! And the western ride that the two ghostriders did WAS lame because it served no other purpose than give us gratuitous effects and a lame riding theme track. If he would have gone up against Blackheart to help Blaze and then died on the battlefield then good, the ride would've had a better purpose... but it didn't.

I personnaly can't wait for a sequel! They got a great actor for the main role, kick ass special effects and going after the freakin church is totally the way to go! Can't wait!!! :)
