EA has announced that development is underway to bring the G.I. JOE brand to all major console and handheld gaming platforms in summer 2009 to coincide with the theatrical release of the G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA live-action movie, which opens in theaters August 7, 2009. EA will unveil a "first look" of the G.I. JOE video game at Hasbro's Showroom at Toy Fair on February 15-17, 2009 in New York City.

"As Hasbro and Paramount Pictures reignite the G.I. JOE property this year with an all-new toy line and film, EA is excited to play a major role in bringing this icon of pop culture history to a new generation of enthusiasts through interactive gaming," said Chip Lange, General Manager and Vice President of EA Hasbro. "G.I. JOE offers exceptionally rich storylines and a cast of characters that lends itself incredibly well to creating an over-the-top action adventure video game that will thrill gamers as well as G.I. JOE fans."

For good or bad, anything that looks like it will do well gets its own game...

I'm crossing my fingers that because EA is behind it they will come out with something decent. With the whole Battlefield fanchise behind them, LotR movie based games, etc, they definately have a game engine between the two that could work great for a G.I. Joe/military based game.

of course...another movie game...but yeah, what movie doesn't get a game these days? But this one actually has some potential to be an entertaining game

Just wanted to point out that The Dark Knight didn't have a video game, even though the Batman Begins game was pretty fun(and Arkham Asylum does not count as TDK game because its based on the comics). But we must all come to the realization that anything that is popular ,or has the potential to be, will be exploited in every format possible to make money off of it. Some day there will not be a difference between movies and video games. You will watch a movie and then at certain points you will have the option to play out the sequences the way you want (choose your own adventure style) I forsee it!

Shoot I remember back in the day, G.I. Joe game for Nintendo/Genisis, can't remember which, kicked ass. You could be Snake Eyes (who shot white balls?) Duke and a few others. It was tight, so maybe this one will, they do EA workin' on it.

You mean Hasbro... the company that came up with the perfect marketing strategy of releasing a toyline, then producing an animated series and features based on their product, and various other extensive franchise style marketing ploys are now marketing video games based on the characters in the live action movie, based on those same toys?..
Who'd of thunk.

I just had a thought. Do you think Snake Eyes will kill Storm Shadow?

Yeah, but then he'll dissappear in a "puff", and all that will be left is a pile of his clothes as they slowly hit the floor, and his lightsaber... Wait a godd@mn minute?!

As long as they dont follow Marvel's movie to game franchises, im sure this is gonna do good considering that EA is doing the game.

Adamant, yeah Hasbro did have that scheme but i think the first ones to do that was Mattel with Heman and MOTU. :) They released hundreds of TV shows and as much action figures as well. :) Then came Hasbro with GIJoe... Transformers... etc

The game will probably be better than the movie, but what is it really about every other movie these days gets a game with it? And the game usually follows along so closely with the movie that you might as well be watching the movie again!

Still, I'm far too disappointed with this movie to be excited about it. I just want to see snake eyes and storm shadow go at it and praise the badass looking cobra troopers, wishing our U.S. armed forces looked like that.
