I would go. I think it could be good fun. I don't like musicals on film but on stage they can be entertaining, plus the cast is pretty good.

Seriously ... is this site even relevant to movies anymore?

I mean c'mon.

And don't give me this crap about how it is GI Joe related. This has nothing to do with the movie. This belongs in the comment section of an actual story not as a front page article.

@Leee777, since I'm new here and perhaps you already answered this question before, how was Gi Joe more believable or considered to be more "true to source material" than that of X-Men Origins: Wolverine?
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 8/10/2009, 3:00 PM
Well they ain't got POWERS for one thing! : D

LoL...but let's be truthful here, why did they feel it was necessary to downplay Ripcord's ethnicity? Ok, you want to alter his appearance and make it up-to-date or whatever, I'll bite that bullet. What about Tatum who doesn't reflect one military bone in his body or leadership role as an actor? His entire time on screen I saw someone crying out for a director to scream, "cut!" and give some sense of direction as to his portrayal. Ok, we want to overlook that fine, what about Cobra Commander and Destro? The film had cobra commander be second in control to that of James "Destro" McCullen, when in actuality, Cobra hired Destro in the origin of Gi Joe.

The list can go on and on and I'm not one to complain about source material being altered by hollywood because it happens over and over, but I think both films should be judged the same.

MarkCassidy - 8/10/2009, 3:20 PM
Dude iv tried that approach...You will just get back something like..

"Yeah but Borigins sucked! It was GI Joe man;)"

Leee will not admit that whats good for the goose is good for the gander!
Whispers68
Whispers68 - 8/10/2009, 3:28 PM
LOL. I guess I should just go from noob and become a long time citizen of the site by understanding how Leee777 is, all in one night it seems. Well, unless he responds and explains his position on why he judged both films differently, then I'll get with the program.

By the way Ror, I seem to notice most of the articles on this site come from you. I swear everytime I come to the site, it's something from you and Jman on the main page
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 8/10/2009, 3:49 PM
Atleast DUKE and COBRA COMMANDER weren't BROTHERS! : D

Ive said TATUM was a crap DUKE GEEZ lol! He reminded me of ACKLES if that guy got to be CAP in the AVENGERS, lame and Leaderless! He would've made a better TUNNELRAT or something if he had to be in the movie!

RIPCORD isn't really a main player in the JOE'VERSE so i didn't care to much if he was black, white or green, i thought the actor done a okay job, an at times made me chuckle! ; D

I knew HOLLYWOOD was gonna mess wiv the origins, its a damn toy line lol, unlike WOLVERINE that had a much longer and richer life! BORIGINS had no excuse, it treated everyone like babies! GI JOE gave us more popcorn entertainment by far, just like ROTF did!!!

Better CGI, better action, better story, okay the acting goes to WOLVIE & SABRE, but only coz DUKEY let us down!

Yes it could've been better, but it was THE RISE OF COBRA so i reckon it will be!!! ; )

Infact i hope WOLVIE 2 & GI JOE 2 are better then we all win! With SEQUEL NEWS on both, there's no way the movie companies do not take note of the mixed response on both movies! Both movies will have much better sequels!

Oh i forgot....

''Yeah but Borigins sucked! It was GI JOE man! ; )''

Heh heh. Seriously though dude, both movies could've been better, just like WARZONE!

I just hope HOLLYWOOD learn from their mistakes and do better movies, they always gotta have their own take an mess stuff up!

Well all they do is friggin' Remakes an Reboots too!

One day all comic book movies will be try and get to that bar WATCHMEN has set! Until then i suppose we gotta bitch about 'em till its drummed into their heads! : D

Whisper @ Nice ta hear from ya man! ; )

Ror is right what you usually get back is "I've been waiting years for these characters onscreen" I have useD the word hypocritical with lee77 several times regarding this issue. I'm beginning to think he doesn't know the meaning of the word. :)
Whispers68
Whispers68 - 8/10/2009, 4:27 PM
hahaha...that's why I love coming onto this site. We can dish out our own opinions and yet at the end of the day, everyone still remains cool.

Lee, you're definitely right on that aspect. Both films could've been much better than the finished product we saw in theaters. I actually didn't see as much fault with the acting of Marlon for his portrayal on Ripcord...I actually generally didn't see a problem with him in the film as I've noticed with other reviews. I was just questioning his casting since Ripcord originally is not an African American character.

But you, myself and everyone on this site knows Hollywood generally doesn't care about learning from mistakes as far as sticking to source material goes. They'll pick up something we love and rape that thing until the cows come home. It's all about earning back what they spent at the box office and a bit more. If they tarnish the origins but spent $150 million on the budget and marketed the product with an additional $125 million, and yet earned $550+ million at the box office worldwide, that's a success in their eyes. It all boils down to dollars and cents really...sucks, but that's the reality, it's a business
superdog
superdog - 8/10/2009, 4:59 PM
Yep. And we'll keep going no matter what they do. Look at fox. They have fck up pretty much every comicbook movie they ever made but guesse what. We still go and they still make money. In the end we really only have ourselves to blame.

Whispers68 - 8/10/2009, 5:38 PM
Haha...yeah, people flock to anything on screen these days. All we can do is either sit a film out to then download or see it and stop others from seeing it in theaters if the movie bombs.

"You could smear shit on celluloid and people would flock to it"

Louis B meyer.

Spidey, i like Sienna Millers tits and Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow kept my attention. The rest was drivel. I regret paying to see it. maybe if i had rented it i may have found its comedic value worth it.

Now THAT was funny! Thanks for sharing that! Now THAT at least looks like the GIJoe I loved as a teen. There is more cleverness and imagination in that little video clip than that whole rancid movie!

Thank god my ten bucks went somewhere in the 40 million dollar area. That way I'm not responsible for pushing it over the 100 million mark.

Well i don't care, GI JOE was cool!

PPl you know this babys sweet!!!

Watch it, enjoy it, and i repeat there's alot of movies this year that was way worst than this that's come out!

Ultimate POPCORN flick!

Dark Horse of the Summer!!!

YOOOOO JOE!!! ; )

Whispers @ I hope one day HOLLYWOOD will take note an respect the source material, (An i don't mean every page an panel, just basics) but until then we got our WATCHMEN atleast! ; D

MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 8/11/2009, 8:44 AM
Give it up Leee. The "popcorn" defense has been well and truly DEBUNKED!

There were worse movies..is that really a selling point?

"Go see Joe! It wasn't the worst movie out this year!"

Dead horse of the Summer.

comicb00kguy
comicb00kguy - 8/12/2009, 7:24 AM
Well put, Ror!

Leee, my friend, I gotta respectfully disagree with you about the "dark horse of the summer" thing. A "dark horse" movie is a small film, or a less-anticipated one, that comes out of nowhere to be a monster hit. The Joe film is a major summer release that has been anxiously anticipated by many fans of the toy line and classic cartoon series (and maybe that show's progeny- the several other Joe series that followed). That hardly qualifies as a dark horse, imo.

To use an example from this summer, District 9 could be a dark horse, or that "9" animated film that's coming up soon (and won't THAT cause some confusion? Having two similarly named films out at once). Neither of those have had near the anticipation or the "buzz" of the big summer blockbusters. I'm intrigued by both of these films, and hope that one or both give us the 'pleasant surprise' film of the year- the film we don't expect to be as good as it is that really blows us away with its greatness.
