Speaking with GeneralJoes/WOJM at the London premiere of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, director Jon M. Chu talks about how the sequel establishes a different tone/feel from 2009's Rise Of Cobra. He discusses the film's building a foundation for its characters, and says that the roots will lead into further character development in the future. "It is a sense of, both scared and relieved at the same time… a sense of responsibility to tell… there’s so many things about G.I. Joe, I know what the fans want, because I hear it every day. I know what they wish for, and I know what our movie has, and what it doesn’t have. What we didn’t have the ability to necessarily do yet. We’re building a foundation for a different tone, a different feel for the movie, reinventing a lot of things. But it’s just the beginning. Do we want to get more into Cobra Commander? Yes. Did we not do that enough here? For sure. But we have to build some roots before we go through all that." Chu had this to say when asked if this foundation would lead to a third G.I. Joe film. "I hope it’s the foundation for a lot of other things. I think that the G.I. Joe world is huge, I mean even including Action Man…I bet there’s an Action Man pissed that London just got destroyed and he’s going to want some vengeance. There are so many things, Cobra Island, and all the different characters , even our movie as it is is too many characters, so we’re just trying to find that balance. We had to strip a lot of stuff out, consolidate or reveal it later in the movie than we had originally planned, because we had to… adapt. There are a lot of people who have seen the first movie, a lot of people who have not seen the first movie. A lot of people who know nothing about G.I. Joe, and a lot of people who know a lot about G.I. Joe. Some people who know just about the 12” action figures." For GeneralJoes/WOJM's full interview with Chu, click the source link below.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Channing Tatum, Bruce Willis, Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park and Ray Stevenson. The film is set to hit theaters March 28th.

The trailers alone look infinitely better than Rise Of Cobra. I'm definitely seeing this.

I'll be more interested if Action Man actually makes an appearance in G.I Joe.

Hopefullt this one will help everyone to forget RoC and then then next part can run free of those ties. Would like to see Baroness and Destro back in the next one as their character should be... and played by Milla Jovovich and Gerard Butler ;o)

This will be the next Resident Evil franchise, and continue on with sequel after shitty sequel for the next decade.

Again, people take note of the writers. Same people who wrote Zombieland, a great film known for combining fantastic humor with dark elements.

4 reviews in on RT and all positive right now. Be cautiously optimistic. They say this is actually really accurate to GI Joe mythos

I really hope they don't reveal that Scarlett died and somehow bring her back in future films...she is essential to Snake Eyes' motivation.....We also need the Baroness and Destro back...along with Major Bludd, The Twins and the Drednoks....and freakin Stalker

I like him, he's honest and down to earth, he knows what people want and he's trying to please everyone, but he also knows that he can't please everyone. Gi joe isn't a big story over three hours, it's a popcorn action movie that's a fun getaway, just like the show almost thirty years ago, I can't wait.

Probably won't see this in theatres, but it does look kinda cool. I can't wait for this, though, cuz when it's released, that means a trailer for The Wolverine!

THE ONE THING ABOUT THE FIRST MOVIE I HATED THE MOST WAS THAT THERE WASNT AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY SNAKEEYES WAS IN A FULL BODY SUIT AN WHY HIS FACE WAS MASKED...EVERYONE KNOWS HE GOT HORRIBLY SCARRED AN WHAT, THE FIRST MOVIES"CODE OF SILENCE" REASON FOR HIM NOT SPEAKING WAS REALLY DUMB.

This movie should have been out on DVD back in November December of 2012 if they stuck with the original release date.

@Wonderer Zombieland writers!? Sweet! Don't know how I missed that.

@Gunsmith That would be awesome. Let the people in on why Snake-Eyes is a favorite, beyond the obvious ninja stuff. If this movie is good, then maybe people will start asking that question. The way Star Wars made you wonder about Darth Vader, without giving away too much, too fast.

They're going to combine Simpsons and South Park and team-up to kill-off all of Family Guy for never being funny.

If Michael Bay made the Hasbro crossover, it would be called Trans-Joe, about a transgender alien played by Megan Fox with a beard.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE, & EVERYONE COMPLAINING ABOUT IT NEED TO GET OUTTA THIER BASEMENT & GET A LIFE, THIS IS FICTION & YOU CAN REARRANGE FICTIONAL STORIES HOWEVER YOU WANT. THE CARTOONS WERE DIFFERENT THAN THE COMICS,& THE COMICS WERE DIFFERENT THAN THE CARTOONS, I PERSONALLY LIKED THE 80S CARTOONS BETTER, BUT GIJOE RESOLUTE WAS COOL, RISE OF COBRA WAS OK, I WAS JUST GLAD TO SEE IT ON SCREEN, BUT GIJOE RETALIATION IS GONNA BE GREAT.
