Jon M. Chu Returning To Direct G.I. JOE 3 For Paramount Pictures

After the box office success of G.I. Joe: Retaliation earlier this year, Paramount/MGM are negotiating with director Jon M. Chu to return for the third installment in the Hasbro franchise.

Despite being pushed from a summer 2012 release to March 29th, 2013, Paramount's G.I. Joe: Retaliation has been a success at the box office. The sequel has grossed $365M worldwide, ahead of 2009's The Rise Of Cobra (which made just over $300M globally). Shortly after Retaliation's release, it was confirmed that a third installment in the franchise based on the hit Hasbro toyline was in development. Now, according to Deadline, Retaliation director Jon M. Chu is in talks with Paramount and MGM to helm G.I. Joe 3. Additionally, Skydance Productions will return as Paramount's financing partner, and the studio is meeting with four writers to tackle the job. A scribe should be locked down soon. Chu is also attached to direct a Masters Of The Universe reboot for Sony, but it's currently unknown if he'll work on another Joe before journeying to Eternia. Are you happy to hear that he will return to direct G.I. Joe 3?

I didn't get to see retaliation. Heard it sucked worse than the first one.

@supermarioworldE

It was alright, a 7/10 for me, I hated the fact that they made Cobra only have like 10-15 total minutes of screen time and plus his voice sounded nothing like the voice from the cartoon...lol

He looked sooooooo bad a** but they just didn't give him enough screen time that he deserved.

Third times the charm?? I liked the first two, I actually liked rises more but retaliation had some cool stuff in it. Some of the dialogue and acting was worse than the first one.

Rise of Cobra was more entertaining tbh

I actually preferred the Sommers version. Yeah the acting and script were both shit, but it had some pretty well designed action sequences. Retaliation just felt entirely cheap. It had some pretty good actors (Willis & The Rock), but the script just wasted their talents.

Retaliation was good. Only think i hate in this movie is Bruce Willis. He's not acting at all, he's just himself.

I don't know, GI Joe at all, but both movies was entertaining, so I'll be happy to watch 3rd installment.

Rise of Cobra had pretty good acting. Am I the only one who has seen non action movies starring Channing Tatum? He CAN act. Retaliation was bullshit. Rise of Cobra is a million times better.

the first one was better....the second was fun but not better than the first...i am pissed they killed channings character...thats the MAIN reason why the movie didnt do good for me...once duke died it basically turned into the rock starring as the hero lol
but i hope the 3rd will be better and i hope they do talk about blowing up london instead of forgetting all about it
also i hope it is LONG...the 2nd one was about one hour n 30-40 minutes...i want the 3rd to at least be 2 hours n 10 minutes

how is it that G.I. Joe can get three movies but they can't make a sequel or reboot to Green Lantern? Hollywood makes no sense in what they decide to produce!
