EDITORIAL: Why Stephen Amell's GREEN ARROW Should Not Appear In JUSTICE LEAGUE

You'd think with my enthusiasm for the show that I would want Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen to fight alongside the Justice League in their own feature length. After all, Amell certainly has shown interest. While I wouldn't be necessarily against it, I do not think this is the right route to take. Here's why.

Let's be honest here--Arrow is a great show. It has its flaws, I presume. Some fans feel there's too much needless drama, it has bad acting, not true to the character, etc. This week Arrow (season one) came out on DVD, and I just had to see it. I haven't gotten through the entire season yet, of course, and while I can totally understand where the criticism is coming from, I must say I really, really enjoy it. I have high expectations for season two and Grant Gustin as the Flash.

After all, Amell certainly has shown interest. While I wouldn't be necessarily against it, I do not think this is the right route to take. Here's why.

Why Stephen Amell's GREEN ARROW Should Not Appear in the Justice League Movie

1.) Hawkeye

Despite the controversy I myself took part in, I think Jeremy Renner did the best with what he had in 2012's Marvel's the Avengers. It was definitely something unexpected by the "General Audience," putting a bow-and-arrow armed secret agent in a team of superheroes.

No matter what happens, it's inevitable that the Joss Whedon-directed film will have at least SOME influence on the Justice League film (which, by the way, shouldn't be directed by Zack Snyder.. but that's a different story). If nothing else, CBM trolls will point out all the little similarities. Why add one more?

It's true that, as Stephen Amell said, "archery seems to be having a mini renaissance," but the handful of people that are into that stuff already have Hawkeye to look up to. Think about it. The Avengers had a six-roster team, with supporting characters and a villain. Justice League will probably have a six-to-seven roster team (though only the "big five" are needed), and adding Green Arrow, who does the exact same thing as Hawkeye, will just support the Marvel extremists' argument that it's a rip-off.

2.) Batman

Batman meeting the CW's Green Arrow would be like looking into a character-trait mirror. Amell's character on the show is basically Batman for TV. Seriously.

• Lives a double life as a playboy by day and dark, mysterious vigilante by night.
• Inspired by the death of his father (woah, now this is starting to sound like Daredevil).
• Not to mention the tone is similar to that of the Nolan trilogy films. Not to get that war started though, heh-heh..

I feel like Bruce Wayne and Oliver Queen are too much alike, which would most likely result in them not getting along or fighting, which again, would sound too much like the Avengers.

3.) DC Cinematic Universe Expansion

Perhaps this will start a flame war, perhaps not. I certainly have seen people on this website argue and argue about it like the minions you are, so here goes nothing.

On one side of the ring we have the Man of Steel purists (a-hem, idiots, no offense) who think Arrow should not be connected to the DCCU at all. They use complaints about the show that I mentioned earlier (much needless drama, has bad acting, not true to the character, etc). And also like I mentioned earlier, I totally get where they are coming from. CW randomly threw stuff in there about Oliver's mother having some kind of conspiracy (mind you, I haven't seen the whole thing yet), the choice of actors aren't the best and they definitely made the title character too dark.

On the other side of the ring, you got people like me, who want Arrow to be DCCU canon. Leaving the show canon, but not putting the characters in the Justice League movie would be a golden opportunity to expand the universe. Now let me explain.

The one and only problem I have with the MCU is that everything revolves around the Avengers. Even Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is said to be "continuing the saga that began in the Avengers," and I'm sure Guardians of the Galaxy will find some way to connect to that or S.H.I.E.L.D. There's no emphasis on other superheroes or major characters. A TV show on Daredevil, Punisher, or even the Jessica Drew chick would be fun to see, but they insist on playing it safe. Heck, we're supposedly even getting an Agent Carter show. Maybe it's just a personal thing, but I would most assuredly rather see some stories on non-Avenger superheroes.

Arrow has the chance to do that, and I really think they will. We could see some cameos/guest appearances from fan favourites that aren't really that popular (which is another reason why I think a Booster Gold show would be good).

Anyhow, that's my article and my reasons. If you disagree, I understand and you're entitled to your own opinion. Thanks for reading, and let me know what you think in the comment section.

Peace.

Or maybe because Green Arrow isn't a OG member.

I do agree with wanting to see it as cannon. I think you're probably right on what they will do, however the cannon maniac in me would LOVE to have a crossover of film and TV, at least a cameo. But, that's just my opinion.

If CW does make a Flash series with Grant Gustin and if it turns out to be a success, only then, should they seriously consider allowing Arrow to cross-over to the movie-verse.
But doing a TV series does afford them a means to introduce these characters beforehand which saves valuable movie time than having to introduce them in the Justice League movie.

Agree with everything you said in the editorial.

Also, let's hope the Flash TV series is a go and a success.

Arrow won't and flash won't. At least not the TV versions.

Also putting a TV show on a channel nobody watches doesn't really count...

The reason he shouldn't appear is because HE ISN'T A FOUNDING MEMBER OF THE JUSTICE LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with this, the people who watch these shows on the CW are already people who would attend the DC live action movies, so it's not like they're gaining a new audience by linking the shows/movies together. Also Arrow isn't as highly rated as people think, it's CW's most watched show, but when compared to other channels it falls really low on the ratings scale. I've tried multiple times to get into Arrow, but I just can't. I like Steven Amell, but the acting/storytelling on the show is just so soap-opera like, it's crazy. Also, since certain villains/characters have already appeared on the show, we would be beholden to using the same actors for the movies. Do we REALLY want Grant Gustin as our cinematic Flash? I know I don't. Nothing against him, but I don't want a 25 year old Flash with a 35 year old Superman, 40 year old Batman, etc.

I think Marlon Brando's Green Arrow should be in Justice League.

I want it connected to DCCU but he shouldn't necessarily team up with the JL.

You know we have more than 4 or so assumed years until they do Justice League. Batman vs. Superman comes out 2 years from now so while they know its going to happen sometime down the line (it may not even happen who knows), Arrow and Flash will SERIOUSLY be on the way by then. Arrow might be over and the Flash might be a successful series. And hell, it might not be 4 years from now, it may be 6 (I'd ill advise it).

By then, people will barely remember Hawkeye if he's still in the movie. By then, we might have Avengers 3 where the team could be completely different. As for his comparisons to Batman, okay I can't run away from that. In fact, noone can. Smallville needed a Batman but was fine with Green Arrow instead. But still, it'd be so many years after Avengers people would find it amusing enough.

I do actually agree Green Arrow shouldn't appear in the first Justice League though. He could make a cameo appearance or hell, Justice League could be set up that the first half of the movie is the original 7 and the final battle has a whole expanded set of heroes laid out by both the films and the TV series! That move would SERIOUSLY set it apart from Avengers and really give it the tone of the Justice League that we know of today.

I think it's logical, you could bring more merchandise to the shows and the movies.
