Let's be honest here--Arrow is a great show. It has its flaws, I presume. Some fans feel there's too much needless drama, it has bad acting, not true to the character, etc. This week Arrow (season one) came out on DVD, and I just had to see it. I haven't gotten through the entire season yet, of course, and while I can totally understand where the criticism is coming from, I must say I really, really enjoy it. I have high expectations for season two and Grant Gustin as the Flash.
You'd think with my enthusiasm for the show that I would want Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen to fight alongside the Justice League in their own feature length. After all, Amell certainly has shown interest. While I wouldn't be necessarily against it, I do not think this is the right route to take. Here's why.
Why Stephen Amell's GREEN ARROW Should Not Appear in the Justice League Movie
1.)
Hawkeye
Despite the controversy I myself took part in, I think Jeremy Renner did the best with what he had in 2012's Marvel's the Avengers. It was definitely something unexpected by the "General Audience," putting a bow-and-arrow armed secret agent in a team of superheroes.
No matter what happens, it's inevitable that the Joss Whedon-directed film will have at least SOME influence on the Justice League film (which, by the way, shouldn't be directed by Zack Snyder.. but that's a different story). If nothing else, CBM trolls will point out all the little similarities. Why add one more?
It's true that, as Stephen Amell said, "archery seems to be having a mini renaissance," but the handful of people that are into that stuff already have Hawkeye to look up to. Think about it. The Avengers had a six-roster team, with supporting characters and a villain. Justice League will probably have a six-to-seven roster team (though only the "big five" are needed), and adding Green Arrow, who does the exact same thing as Hawkeye, will just support the Marvel extremists' argument that it's a rip-off.
2.)
Batman
Batman meeting the CW's Green Arrow would be like looking into a character-trait mirror. Amell's character on the show is basically Batman for TV. Seriously.
• Lives a double life as a playboy by day and dark, mysterious vigilante by night.
• Inspired by the death of his father (woah, now this is starting to sound like Daredevil).
• Not to mention the tone is similar to that of the Nolan trilogy films. Not to get that war started though, heh-heh..
I feel like Bruce Wayne and Oliver Queen are too much alike, which would most likely result in them not getting along or fighting, which again, would sound too much like the Avengers.
3.)
DC Cinematic Universe Expansion
Perhaps this will start a flame war, perhaps not. I certainly have seen people on this website argue and argue about it like the minions you are, so here goes nothing.
On one side of the ring we have the Man of Steel purists (a-hem, idiots, no offense) who think Arrow should not be connected to the DCCU at all. They use complaints about the show that I mentioned earlier (much needless drama, has bad acting, not true to the character, etc). And also like I mentioned earlier, I totally get where they are coming from. CW randomly threw stuff in there about Oliver's mother having some kind of conspiracy (mind you, I haven't seen the whole thing yet), the choice of actors aren't the best and they definitely made the title character too dark.
On the other side of the ring, you got people like me, who want Arrow to be DCCU canon. Leaving the show canon, but not putting the characters in the Justice League movie would be a golden opportunity to expand the universe. Now let me explain.
The one and only problem I have with the MCU is that everything revolves around the Avengers. Even Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is said to be "continuing the saga that began in the Avengers," and I'm sure Guardians of the Galaxy will find some way to connect to that or S.H.I.E.L.D. There's no emphasis on other superheroes or major characters. A TV show on Daredevil, Punisher, or even the Jessica Drew chick would be fun to see, but they insist on playing it safe. Heck, we're supposedly even getting an Agent Carter show. Maybe it's just a personal thing, but I would most assuredly rather see some stories on non-Avenger superheroes.
Arrow has the chance to do that, and I really think they will. We could see some cameos/guest appearances from fan favourites that aren't really that popular (which is another reason why I think a Booster Gold show would be good).
Anyhow, that's my article and my reasons. If you disagree, I understand and you're entitled to your own opinion. Thanks for reading, and let me know what you think in the comment section.
Peace.
