Green Hornet Release Date Pushed Back For 3D Conversion

It looks like Sony is pushing the Green Hornet into 2011 for 3D conversion!

Deadline is reporting that Sony has decided to push back the release date of the upcoming superhero film Green Hornet into 2011 for 3D conversion. The previous date for the film was December 22, 2010. They are also reporting that the new date is January 14th, 2011.

This is from Deadline:

"Green Hornet is moving its release date from December 22nd to Martin Luther King Weekend, which is January 14, 2011, so it can be converted into 3D. Sony is using the term "3D enhancements". (Because no visual effects on the film have been done yet by Sony Imageworks, which is just getting into post-production on it. So the studio says it's not a 3D conversion but an enhancement, and there's already "great depths" to the shots from director Michel Gondry, who has experience with 3D videos.) There have been rumors of problems with the comic book caper film, with some rival studios calling reporters to claim it's unreleasable, but Sony Pictures Entertainment Vice-Chair and marketing/distribution kingpin Jeff Blake is denying. "

So what are your thoughts about 3D post-converted Green Hornet film?

F-CK 3D! The whole 'last-minute 3D conversion' makes me have bigger doubts that this movie will be good. The Green Hornet movie doesn't NEED to be in 3D, it's just being made in 3D because the studios know that 3D tickets cost more which makes it so the movie makes more money. *groans* Just look what happened when the Clash of the Titans movie was quickly converted to 3D, it sucked!

Lol, they're just doing this so they don't have to compete with Tron: Legacy, considering that movie was going to destroy Green Hornet in the box offices. But, you can count on me seeing it because I love Seth Rogen movies.

Unless you go in initially with the 3D like Avatar, I have to question any movie that does it midstream. As mentioned, that tells me they are trying to put a band-aid on a movie that is hurting and they need more help to market it and make a few more bucks. I think Green Hornet should have more of a nostalgic "old school" feel to it and 3D would seem really odd to me as it goes against that.

Captain America@ That goes without saying. It has to do more with the motivation and intent of why it is being made into a 3D movie midstream, as opposed to disliking 3D. At this point it would suggest there are other weaknesses, especially in a movie that you don't really think of as having major special effects.

F***! I really wanted to see this movie..
Now I WON'T!! why you ask?

because it is going to be in 3 F****** D! thats why

I am so over this 3D crap, make movies in 3D that are
SUPPOSE to be in 3D..LIKE: TRON...Green Lantern and
Avatar 2..Don't tack it on for NO REASON!

The Loser movie is NOT in 3D, and I'm sure it will have great box office numbers..Kick-Ass was NOT in 3D and It did great..and I LOVED that movie!

STOP MAKING 3D ON EVERY MOVIE!!

GREEN HORNET was NOT made IN 3D..So why tack it on at the END!! For bigger box office numbers! It won't work!
just look at Clash of the Titans! The 3D in that movie HURT the box office numbers!!

F*** 3D!!

Oh give me a break.. why does every movie that comes out have to be in 3D.... What about the people that get headaches from watching movies in 3D???? They are totally over doing it. Why can't they go back to normal film making... I know 3D looks awesome, but.. its just get ridiculous... Enough all ready with it

I guess the producers really regret investing on this project and are doing everything they can to b ring back their cash. For me if it was that bad than making it into 3D will not fix it. Those who know green hornet and Bruce Lee's fans and fans of the 60's Green hornet -- like me--have high expectations. Might as well retool and market it as "NOT A GREEN HORNET MOVIE". With Seth Rogan in it why not convert it as - "The Green Hornet wannabees" or "I dream I was a Green Hornet". Then maybe people will watch it.

I think this might be an attempt to get more movie goers than they would have other wise. Idk with all the bad rumors that are going around that this movie might be really bad. I hope it's not the case, but i don't see any other reason for a 3-D Green Hornet movie.

This is BS. They pushed it back because it sucks and it will get swamped by the other Christmas releases. This means the studio has no faith in this picture.
