In an interview with Access Hollywood, Blake Lively was asked how she felt about being cast in the role of Carol Ferris in Martin Campbell's Green Lantern

“Oh my gosh, it means the world!” Lively commented while at an LA book release party Tuesday night.

For those of you that aren't aware of the character's background, Carol Ferris is the only child of aerospace mogul Carl Ferris. She hired Hal Jordan as a test pilot and quickly found herself attracted him.

“It’s such an exciting film to be a part of, wonderful cast, wonderful studio and it’s an amazing role so I’m really thrilled.”

When the topic of changing her hair color for the movie came up (Ferris is a brunette), Lively kept quiet but made a funny face.

MPP - As opposed to the general consensus on this site, I think she's a great choice for role! Looks wise she's spot on except for the hair color. I think she's a much better choice than she two contenders Jen Gardner and Keri Russel.

Hopefully we'll hear some Sinestro casting news soon.

She really scares me trying to pull this character off. I will keep an open mind but OMG! she does not seem too bright. Nice eye candy though

...and I think she should do ok. Her comment, "it means the world.", says she understands that this role is important to her future, she WANTS it. she'll do good.

and as far as her not being a comic book fan, who really cares. Do you think anyone besides Spielburg and Hanks gave a damn about WWII when they were filming Private Ryan? Probably not...they were actors doing a job, and they did good.

Nothing against the actress, but isn't the character supposed to be the head of a company? She looks like a high schooler.Or a collegiate at the least.Let's hope she can keep up with the other actors.

I just don't see how Gossip Girl and The Travelling Pants or whatever its called would make anyone think she was right to play this part. Looks are only a tiny part of it. That being said, she obviously did a good audition so I'm willing to see what she brings. Oh, and that mole annoys me..its too noticeable. Am I that picky? nah, Id bang her senseless, just saying:)

I think if she dyes her hair she will be fine.

But what scares me I have been reading some recent articles that say Dr. Hector Hammond will be the main villian WTH that sucks most of the movie should be in space and the villian should be Legion or Sinestro.

Curious with which rendition of Hal Jordan they're going with. With the Secret Origins relaunch form Johns a few years back, maybe?
As far as main villian, Dmon, I think Dr. Hammond is a good choice! Why go balls out the first time? What would you save for the sequels? I like that idea. I'd give it a "Greatest American Hero" vibe to the first episode. You know, clumsy, not knowing how to properly harness and apply the rings power.

That way, Sinestro (who's name should be different until he betrays the GL corps) trains him proper in the sequel to help in adequately beat Legion. This way, Sinestro's betrayal could be saved for three-tiered arc installment.

@ Phin-That has possibilities but they should at least intro Sinestro to set him up for future movies if they go this route.

Me, I'd rather see Sinestro as the main villain to start with
Phinehas
Phinehas - 1/13/2010, 3:25 PM
Ok, how about Sinestro arrives at the end of the first film explaining Hal's need to train on Oa under his supervision?

Dmon - 1/13/2010, 3:26 PM
@ Phinehas hell no. They should go with the Emerald Dawn story and they damn well better go Balls out and make this epic and not so Earth bound if they dont there may not be a 2nd film. I dont want to see FAT HEAD if he is the main villian the movie will tank.

I like Greatest American Hero but Frick no should GL be anything like that. That sounds like that movie Jack Black wanted to do.
Phinehas
Phinehas - 1/13/2010, 3:36 PM
I wasn't implying to make him a goof the way Hinkly was during the show. But this is the beginning of sorts and I was using GAH to illustrate the difficulty to handle such power. Not model the movie after it.
Fine, Emerald Dawn. That could explore the Parallax arc. But I still don't think its necessary to ejaculate on the audience first time around. You need to ease them into the character. It will be so fantastic, they'll be screaming for more and there will be more to give. Using psychological horror is a powerful tool.

I totally agree with Ror. She isn't that good an actress, but hopefully she really did knock the audition out of the park, so I'll give her a chance. Nonetheless, it's still a disappointing choice.

Tyler-
As I am not prone to watch chick flicks, romcoms, or TV shows for women/girls, I have no idea how she is as an actress.
How is she on those shows/movies? I have NO idea. You seem to know based on your statement, "She isn't that good an actress..."

Phin: I've seen Accepted, where she was the love interest, nothing special.

And I've watched (ashamedly) some of Gossip Girl (forced to), and she's pretty bad in it, as is pretty much everyone else. Though that is a teen soap opera, I don't know. She's just never impressed me at all.

It's difficult to think she can pull off the role of a hard-ass, arrogant vice-president of an aerospace company. They said she did great in the interview, so I hope that means she can pull off that persona and that they auditioned for someone to be true that role. I do hope they keep accurate to the source material as far as her personality. No Spiderman personality switch, please.

Her coloring doesn't strike me as someone who is going to look very natural as a brunette. I guess time will tell.

WB, YOU SUCK !!!

Hopefully. As far as the villain thing goes, wasn't there a casting call for Sinestro? If Hammond is the big bad this time around, maybe they will only have Sinestro turn against Jordan at the end of the movie.

As a HUGE Green Lantern fan all I can say is that if
she dosnt change hair colour its going to be one more
sign that the movie isnt worth my money.
WB / DC should have learnt there lesson from Superman returns.
Lets hope they have... but im doubting it.

How many people on this site have actually sat down and watched Gossip Girl or the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants? lol. I certainly can't judge her acting chops yet but really (and I'm actually asking), how difficult is this role? I'm sure she'll do fine.

I've actually seen Gossip Girl once or twice when there was nothing else on. Crap show, but the lovely Lively seems to be a pretty decent actress to me. She also seemed to carry herself very maturely for being on a teeny bopper show, so I don't think she'll come across as high schoolish when paired with Ryan Reynolds.
Layperson
Layperson - 1/14/2010, 8:35 PM
Yeah, she's smokin' but she's not the actress I'd pick for the role, that being said who knows, it could work a good director can totally change an actor so we'll see. I'm more concerned about the villian. Sinestro has to be in it but i think they should hold off on making him the MAIN villian. I'm fine with the idea of Dr. Hammond being the primary villian. But if they aren't looking to make any sequels or to include the GL corps in an eventual JLA movie which won't be happening any time soon--we'll all be old men when that happens--I suppose Sinestro should be the villian

Bah, don't listen to me, I don't know what I think
