Blake Lively Talks Green Lantern; Would Love To Play Star Sapphire!

Speaking to The Los Angeles Times: Hero Complex, the actress shares her thoughts on the relationship between Hal Jordan and Carol Ferris and says that she'd love the chance to bring Star Sapphire to the big screen...

Here's what the 23-year-old actress had to say in an interview with Hero Complex at the 2011 CinemaCon Awards held at Pure in Caesars Palace on Thursday in Las Vegas.

"It’s intimidating, because it’s a movie that has so much money and so many stakes — so many people are so invested in it. But what made me want the role that much more is that my character is a strong, militant, powerful woman who really challenges Hal. They’re rivals and are always butting heads. She comes in and says, ‘Men are weak too.’ It was just a really special female counterpart in a superhero film."

"In this film, Carol is completely human and on earth. But she turns into a villain in the later comics, so potentially if it became a franchise I’d get to explore that, which would be so much fun. I would love that. What you don’t see [in this film] is when they’re kids. They’re each other’s first loves. Where the movie picks up, they’re ex-lovers. So there is that tension — that rivalry — but also that love. They’re each other’s soulmates."

With an all star cast which includes Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris and Mark Strong as Sinestro, director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern is set to be released in 3D on June 17, later this year!

all the casting for this movie is almost perfect.

i need to see more reynolds as hal.

but blake lively should be taken out of this movie completely.

you know while they're sorting out the cgi, howabout digtizing her completely out of the movie & reshooting her scenes with someone else.

hehehe....that suit would be kinda hard to keep on in real life....if they did do it revealing like that it would have to be done CG or body paint like mystique was done in the xmen films.

@thegoddamnsuperguy She played a crackhead in The Town but her Boston accent sucked. Agree with @marvel72 and @newbreedofgeek agree with @taydee as well she sucks plain and simple.

She does not fit the character, we all know that from the trailer. I agree Kristen Stewart or Anna Faris would have been worse.

@rokker saying Blake Lively is an actress is like saying Rebecca Black is a singer

Oh and Agree with @Helagood so I dont lose my soul

kristen stewart would have 10X better than blake lively. She's horrible in the twilight movies, but she has shown in the runaways and her other films that she can act.

@taydee The reaction of her being in GL would have been worse cause you know us comic geeks hate anything Twilight ;)

She was just cast to bring in teen girls who watch her crappy show

So Im assuming that the story of her agents saying "this film is going to be horrible blah blah blah" is finally confirmed as bullshit?

claybo4131 - Thats true. I mean I wouldn't even want Kristen in this movie at ALL, but I don't think theres a worst actress that could have been cast based on her little speech in the trailer.

But with the recent news and talk about the film, its starting to look better and better.

Hal and Carol knowing each other as kids is the only part of Geoff Johns' excellent GL retcon that I don't really care for. It doesn't serve the characters and feels a little too forced. (Not as bad as, say the Joker killing Bruce Wayne's parents, but it still gives me that kind of feeling.) Superhero comics are too full of "they were born to be soulmates" sentiment. Hal's a poonhound, always will be. He just wants to bang his hot boss.

Hal and Carol's relationship in New Frontier feels truer to me: "I don't date my employees, Mr. Jordan." "Good thing I don't start work 'til Monday, Ms. Ferris." BOWMP CHICKA WOW WOW.

she's going to be fine. she's a love interest... who gives a !@#$%??? you guys act like it matters, anyway—nobody liked kirsten dunst, nobody liked katie holmes, nobody liked maggie gyllenhall, etc, and they didn't make the MOVIES bad. personally? i thought paltrow was ok but liv tyler isn't even worthy to drive jennifer connelly to the set.

meanwhile, it's the same old crap of judging on the first trailer. now that the cgi is better, what can we b!@#$ about next? oh, i know... how about two lines from blake lively, including one that was pieced together in the editing room from three other clips? oh yeah, great idea!
