D.B. Woodside Throws His Hat In The GREEN LANTERN Ring

No pun intended. Woodside (24, Buffy The Vampire Slayer) is the latest actor to publicly campaign for a superhero role, and this time it's that of John Stewart/Green Lantern in the DCEU. Do you think he has what it takes to reinvent the character after the Ryan Reynolds version?

We assume Warner Bros. plans to reintroduce Green Lantern to their burgeoning DCEU in time for the first Justice League movie, but as far as we know they haven't cast the character yet. Though it hasn't been confirmed, several sources have reported that this incarnation of the space-adventurer will indeed be John Stewart, and it turns out Lucifer actor D.B. Woodside is very interested in nabbing that role.

Woodside - who says he has yet to audition for any Marvel or DC superheroes - wore a Green Lantern t-shirt to last year's SDCC, and CBR recently caught up with him to ask if that was a deliberate ploy to get some attention. It was.

"The whole series and the characters have always been one of my favorites. I grew up as a comic-book guy, so I love these characters. We're living in a superhero bubble right now that I am hoping will never burst. And, maybe I was wearing a Green Lantern t-shirt because I'm trying to get into the minds over at DC as they are looking for their Green Lantern. 'Open up and take a look at some others out here in Los Angeles.' That was my cheeky way of trying to influence them."

It is rare that an actor is able to land a role in this fashion, but it can and has happened - so you can't blame Woodside for putting himself out there on the off chance. What do you guys think? Could you see him as Green Lantern? Sound off below.

He has a good look for Stewart!

He's good so far in Lucifer, would love to see more of him in the show. I'm hoping they bring in other archangels into the show like Michael.

But for John Stewart, there is only one person who Warner Bros. is probably looking at the most and that is Nate Parker. Especially after his huge directorial, writing, and producing debut with A Birth Of A Nation

@Kr08 - I just did my research on this guy and The Birth of A Nation is such an unfortunate title, considering the one Nate Parker stars in is about Nat Turner, and the more famous The Birth of a Nation (1915 i think) is Klu Klux Klan propaganda.

@SmellofDuty - I know, right? When I heard about his movie and the fact that he set a film festival record with the studio paying the most money for his film rights, I looked up the movie and got confused when I saw the 1915 version plot synopsis

@Kr08 - If you're a FILM studio for Pete's sake you should have the common sense to retitle the movie so that common movie goers don't get a movie about freedom for slaves mixed up with a KKK propaganda piece.

@SmellofDuty - Yeah, I have no doubt they are going to do that. What sucks is that I would have to wait at least 1 year to be able to see this movie and it has had incredible reviews all around. They could probably call it "The Birth Of Freedom" or something along those lines

@Kr08 - I 100% agree i heard Birth Of a Nation was the highlight at many film festivals. It could be a contender for 2016 Oscars. Plus Nate Parker is a great actor very underrated.

@SmellofDuty - I heard Nate Parker gave it that title for that exact reason though. I don't think they will change it.

@AsapXXX - He is definitely a powerhouse right now. Have you seen Beyond the Lights with him and Gugu Mbatha-Raw? I went into the movie thinking it's going to be a somewhat cliche love film and it turned out to be fantastic.

@AsapXXX - For real? If so, then that makes total sense. Take something that is shit and full of hate and turn it into something inspiring and meaningful

AsapXXX - 2/29/2016, 3:11 PM
@Kr08 - Yes most definitely and The Great Debaters which he starred in with Denzel Washington. I knew that film was going to be good ,same person who directed Love&Basketball.

@AsapXXX - He is definitely becoming huge right now. Warner Bros. and DC should sign him up now while he's a little lesser known
AsapXXX
AsapXXX - 2/29/2016, 3:15 PM
@Kr08 - Yeah that is why he wanted to take something KKK are proud of and place a positive spin on the title. An inspiring message of how black people broke free from slavery.

@Kr08 - Definitely they made a great choice with Cyborg adding Nate to the DCEU with the talent he has, it can be something really special.

@AsapXXX - Not to mention that he leading a buddy cop film with whoever is playing Hal would be something incredible. I have a feeling that he would be the more serious character with Hal having that Nathan Fillionesque type humor, but still serious when he needs to be

@Kr08 - Stepping into a positive and bright future.
Yeah a buddy cop film of a group film is the way to go with the lanterns. I believe on the DC Dawn of Justice special the movie is called Green Lantern Corps. The possibilities they could do with that has me so excited and let not forget the other Lantern Corps. So much they can do plus they are in space.

I really like Firefly and Nathan humour type of humour would suit Hal well. I steel don't know who would play Hal though.

Cor3y - Jon's not that great a GL, but it's official, the Green Lantern movie will be a Buddy cop movie with Hal and Jon. Gotta get the diversity in there.

@Tevii - It's actually not official. They went through some reworks and now they are just having a bunch of Lanterns fighting evil

But DB Woodside would make a pretty good Jon Stewart
