News about the Green Lantern film is being released at a faster pace now that pre-production is moving on.

Production Weekly reported yesterday that Green Lantern is supposed to begin filming in mid-September at an Australia. The film is hoping for a December 10th, 2010 release. The script for the film, which focuses on Hal Jordan, was written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Michael Green.

"We're moving forward at a pretty good clip," Guggenheim told Newsarama Thursday, confirming the September date. "We have a director -- Martin Campbell -- and we're moving ahead with pre-production, which Martin is overseeing."

Although Guggenheim couldn't comment on the many casting rumors, supposedly Chris Pine and Ryan Gosling have been confirmed by different sources, he said the script is currently undergoing revisions as they prepare for production this fall.

"Greg, Michael, and myself are hard at work on further refinements to the script. It's very exciting and we're having a blast," he said.

Guggenheim is the current writer on Amazing Spider-Man for Marvel, while Green co-writes Superman/Batman for DC.

Guggenheim told Newsarama last year that since actual comic writers are involved with the script, it is "not only a respectful approach to the character, but it's a loving approach to the entire mythos."

"It's a fan's take. We are all huge fans of the character," Green told Newsarama. "Hal Jordan is interesting because there have been a lot of incarnations, but he does have this indomitable will. One of the other fun things about Green Lantern is this idea that you are joining something bigger and larger than itself."

Since they are talking about the "entire mythos" and "joining something bigger and larger than itself" it looks likely that some of our favorite Green Lantern Corps members besides Jordan may show up, I for one am hoping for Kilowag. This idea is especially likely since Guggenheim confirmed the GL Corps' home planet of Oa is being designed for the movie.

It is also suggested that Green Lantern may be the beginning of a shared series of films that involve multiple DC Comics characters. This idea has been supported by the fact that Guggenheim, who has recently speculated on a possible Superman cameo in the new Green Lantern film.

I think DC is making a smart move here. It's time for them to start getting away from the major characters like Superman and Batman. If they start building some movies based on the Flash, Green Lantern, etc. they could have the same kind of success as Marvel is having with their build up to the Avengers.

Too bad so many different studios own the rights to different characers. There's war on the horizon. Millions of dollars hang in the balance! WHO will reign supreme?

Is there a list of who owns who? Do a majority of characters belong to a few studios?

@Betty

Great question. DC comics is owned by Warner Bros. Studios so any movie involving those characters are all in the same "universe." This includes characters from DC imprints as well including Vertigo, Wildstorm, etc.

What I mean by this is that the characters can crossover into other movies i.e. there could be a Superman/Batman movie, Wonder Woman could be in a Green Lantern movie etc.

There have been a few exceptions to this like when Universal made the Swamp Thing movies and TV show and when the Wildstorm book League of Extraordinary Gentleman was adapted at 20th Century Fox. But generally there is no problem with character crossover as far as DC characters are concerned.

Marvel characters are a bit more complicated. Marvel sold the movie rights to several of it's characters prior to the formation of Marvel Studios which distributes through Paramount. Basically what this amounts to is the rights to make movies based on any characters including or related to Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men, The Punisher, Ghost Rider and Blade belong to other studios.

Now that Marvel Comics has Marvel Studios any new movies involving Marvel characters that haven't been optioned by other studios will be released by that studio. This includes Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, Captain America, the Avengers, etc.

So basically all those characters I mentioned can be crossed over with each other, but you won't see Wolverine or Spider-Man in the Avengers movie or Iron Man in Spider-Man or X-Men, etc. Not unless the studios that own the "movie" rights to them would give their consent.

The script for this film being written by comic book writers, who understand and love the characters involved here, is a very encouraging sign that we'll see this film done "right". Now to find the right cast.

Guy's, this is why they didn't rush the JLA movie!!! Same as AVENGERS, setting it up!!! Ofcourse their gonna do it, though WARNERS should've done this a long time ago, oh well, better late than never lol! When they do do cameos, i hope they dont put Kyle Rayner in it yet, leave something for later! Though John should be in it half way maybe and GUY at the end if they wanna put them all in the first movie,though i reckon it would be cooler to put JOHN in GL2, KYLE in GL3!! And GUY in a live tv series ;) wink wink!!! As for SUPERMAN, cool!!! But a cameo at the end would be cooler! An its got to be ROUTH!!!!!!! ; ) Cheer's HAWK! great news!!!

I remember reading somewhere during the time they released a review of the screenplay at Latin Review that there was going to be an "assumed" cameo of Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent as the ring flies through the atmosphere attempting to locate Abin Sur's successor. If this is indeed the case, it sounds like we're going to have one hell of a collective "geekgasm" on our hands! LOL

I don't know that much about Green Lantern but I do know Pine looks too young. I've done some scouting and looked through my DVD collection to try and find an actor to play Hal Jordan and I've come up with Sean Patrick Flanery. I've only seen him in Boondock Saints and Suicide Kings but they are two awesome films and he's solid in both. I wish I could get a pic posted on here but the best I can do is these links;

I think he has a good look and the talent to pull it off, not sure how tall he is though but that shouldn't matter in this day of fx.

Oh, and if you've not seen the two films mentioned get them! You won't be disappointed!

What about Timothy Olyphant. I think Nathan Fillion is little overrated.

Also, I hope they ditch Routh as Kent/KalEl?SuperMan!

@ Phinehas Routh didn't ruin supes. He actually played the part pretty much right down the middle. He may not have brought anything new to the charcter, but it is certainly not his fault the movie turned out subpar. That dubius honor goes to the studio. The rushed it, didnt take thier time picking the right writers and director.

More so the writers, I mean come on, weak ending and a supes son!? What were they thinking?!

Galvatron:
I would have to respectfully disagree. In addition to the errors you mentioned, his casting was among them. He was casted for the sole purpose of resembling Reeve and not for looking like Superman. And certainly not on his ability to act. Come on...I think fans were so hard-up for the Man Of Steel that they are settling for a face rather than the essence of the man. Routh just doesn't have it, and I won't settle for mediocrity or less, would you? I don't think so. Not at the going rate of movie tickets these days. Please don't think I am hoping for a perfect man, I'm not. I was concerned when Bale was casted for Bats, but thanks be to the Power, he nailed it in every way.
Routh didn't. Not because of Singer. Not because of the writers. And not because of poor lighting. It was because of Routh. He is a dry of piece of toast and is not convincing. A good actor's performance can shine through a bad movie.
Hawk and Scottymagic:
YES! More talk of a Flash movie underway would really ease the tension right now.
What do you think? Barry Allen or Wally West. Awhile back would have been behind Allen, but West and his humor have really grown on me and I really appreciate where he's gone in the comic.
