Edgar Wright, Christopher Miller, and Taika Waititi Still Want James Gunn In The Director's Chair For GOTG 3

Last week, some of the most notable talent in the fandom industry took to Twitter to suggest their ideal replacement for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3, relying to a fan who thought otherwise.

Right off the announcement that James Gunn was directing The Suicide Squad, which is aiming for a 2021 release date, some fans are still divided over whether the creative should be getting work. And while many have already made up their minds, most fans stand by the director, who was fired from the Guardians threequel gig due to a right wing campaign to unveil nearly decade old joke tweets.

Those close to the situation understood how crucial Gunn was to the franchise. Gunn's style and connection to the characters was so deep, that even the Russos brought him in to write dialogue in both Infinity War and Endgame, so its only fitting that several other new wave auteurs are standing by him as well.

Throughout this past week, directors Edgar Wright (Baby Driver), Christopher Miller (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnorok) were suggested by a fan as potential replacements for the Guardians franchise. But to them only James Gunn is the right man for the job.

@TheUnworthyThor - No, I think it can still be done. Gunn has paid his penance.

@bropous - We’re going to have to wait until after Suicide Squad 2 for GotG Vol 3? No thanks.

OT: is anyone bothered by the fact WB put Batman and Suicide Squad movies to open super close to one another?

June 25th and August 6th 2021.

@Alex35 - feel like placeholder dates. One of them is moving. I could see Batman maybe getting an earlier release, like maybe mid-May.

@Alex35 - No, they’ll probably finish filming Suicide Squad and then push it back six months...for reasons anyway.

@Alex35 - First week of August has special place for James Gunn and Suicide Squad as both GOTG and SS were both released first week of August.

It’s a smart date as most other studios are done with their summer blockbusters leaving August and September void of any CBM/Blockbuster Films. It’s probably one of the major reasons SS did so well despite reviews, August of 2016 had ZERO Competition.

The only way to even remotely put an ease to this situation, is to have Gunn handpick the director himself for Marvel.

I'd say he would either give his blessing for Taika or Nicole Perlman to pick up where he left off.

@BlackBeltJones - The issue I see is that most directors won't do it unless he did give his blessing. Regardless the director will get a ton of crap from the public for not being James Gunn

@Evansly - exactly. This is the best route for them to go.

I would assume that Feige understands this and has probably consulted Gunn on the possibility of this. They're still using his script after all.

He is not coming back and i dont want him at this point
I liked vol 2 but he was unrestrained and it showed. Feige can find a new talented voice and the majority of the cast will be on board, they wont turn down a franchise like that.

If dave still throws a tantrum he can walk if he wants. Warlock can replace him as a guardian.

So do I. He’s part of what made GOTG what it was.
