GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Concept Art Reveals Gamora's Original, Marvel Studios-Approved Design

Marvel Studios concept artist Andy Park has shared an early design for Gamora which was initially approved by filmmaker James Gunn before he changed his mind and wanted something a little simpler!

None of us were entirely sure what the Guardians of the Galaxy would look like when they made the leap from the comic books to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially after the initial concept art revealed during the San Diego Comic-Con was nearly 100% comic accurate!

They were eventually redesigned by Marvel Studios, but concept artist Andy Park has revealed that Gamora orignally had a much different, officially approved appearance.

As Park explains in his Instagram post, this alternate version of Gamora has more markings on her face than Zoe Saldana's badass warrior, but filmmaker James Gunn wanted something simpler, so that's why changes were made before the character made it to the big screen.

This design is definitely eye-catching, but is it better than what ended up in Guardians of the Galaxy?

Any guesses on which actress that’s supposed to be? It’s definitely not Saldana.

Yeah...that initial concept character art was mouthwatering...especially costume and look for STAR LORD. Maybe on the REBOOT.

I'm kinda hoping Gamora has this look at some point in the future

@Necropolitan - Endgame. Number 2 was Frozen with like $600M profit.

@WakandanQueen - I feel like no one talked about Frozen 2

@Necropolitan - It didn't have a "Let it go" moment.

@TheJustinHammer - tbf, Moana, tangled and frozen had a big impact, frozen 2 never came to the public mind in comparison.

The look of Gamora is probably one of the biggest let-downs for me when it comes to the designs of the MCU characters. I’m not sure that the above is a significant improvement, but it at least looks like something. As it is, Gamora looks like an extra from an alien crowd scene.

Thankfully the character has been interesting, but her look? Not so much.

@Chewtoy - I'm convinced James Gunn came in and said: "Look guys, I love Farscape. Just make all the costumes look like Farscape."

And the Marvel design folks looked at all of the designs from Farscape, and it was all black leather, dark red leather, and dark khaki and just threw it all together in a weekend.

And then one amazing costume designer said "You know what... [frick] that, design is my passion" and that one costume designer designed Gamora's shoes.

And that designer was fired, but they used the boots anyway because there's no justice in this world.

@Spock0Clock - How did I never notice her boot heels?! Those things are fabulous.

@Chewtoy - (Well, it was in Vol. 2, so maybe I fudged the timeline.) Ever since the first time I saw this shot, all I can think about when Gamora is running, walking, dancing, or whatever are those boots.

They really are fabulous.
