Filmmaker James Gunn has spent years teasing us about a hidden Easter Egg in Guardians of the Galaxy, so it's no wonder some fans have started seeing them everywhere they look. While Galactus is likely to make his MCU debut imminently now that Marvel Studios has regained the rights to Fantastic Four, Gunn recently debunked the villain's possible introduction in his 2014 movie.
As you can see below, one fan wondered whether Gunn had decided to include Galactus' birth during that scene with The Collector explaining the role of the Infinity Stones in the MCU. While there's a striking similarity between whatever that moment is depicting and the comic book panel found by the fan in question, the director was quick to make it clear this was just a pure coincidence.
It's a shame in some ways, as it would be fun to think about the groundwork being laid for Galactus this long ago, but it might be better to properly introduce the planet-eating baddie on a grander stage. Marvel Studios once offered Fox the chance to keep the rights to the Daredevil franchise in exchange for Galactus and the Silver Surfer, but the rival studio ultimately declined. Clearly, these are characters Kevin Feige has been thinking about using in this shard world for a long time.
Talking of rights issues, Gunn later explained that Ego the Living Planet was a last-minute addition to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, with things worked out very late in the production process. More details on that can actually be found in The Story of Marvel Studios book, but it's certainly interesting to wonder how the writer and director would have handled being unable to make use of Ego!
