About 2 months ago, the director of both Guardians of the Galaxy films, James Gunn, revealed an inadvertant bombshell which shook fans. Gunn explained in a tweet that Groot actually perished during the climax of the first film and, unlike many had assumed, Baby Groot was not simply a reincarnation of Groot but more of a son to the original Flora Colossus

In a recent interview with FOX 5 DC; Dave Bautista, who plays Drax, recently revealed that he and the cast were never made aware of it either. "I wasn't aware of it, I thought it was the same Groot," Bautista said before admitting to the interviewer that he found out on Twitter along with many others. "On Twitter. I don't think anybody ever asked. Everybody just assumed."

In a seperate interview with FOX 5 DC; Chris Pratt (Star-Lord) was asked for his take on the topic. Pratt provided a very thoughtful and intellectual response, explaining that original Groot is both dead and living on through Baby Groot.

It's a little like this, how I look at it and of course James would be the guy to ask, but how I've always seen it and I think it falls in line with that is I am a father. I have a son. I can be gone one day, but my flesh will still live on. It'll live on through my son. Granted, I share genetics with my son's mom, but with Groot he's like an asexual being so he continues to move on, but it is its own life defined by a birth and a death of its own.

Co-star Zoe Saldana (Gamora) suggested that it's like reincarnation, but Pratt then chimed in that it's not quite that simple.

It's a little bit like an apple tree. If an apple tree drops a seed and it grows another apple tree technically it is that first apple tree still because it was grown from that apple tree and continues to grow on but it's life is defined by the moment it became a seedling to the moment it gets cut down.

What do you think about Pratt's explanation? Were you unaware like the film's stars were? What's your take on the situation? You can check out a video of both interviews, along with a couple other stars, below:
